What if it's a Bluray/DVD combo with Bluray release of the SE + DVD release of anamorphic OOT?  I'd buy that (but I'd still be pissed).

Also, Lucas made the official announcement at CV. SW trilogy on Blu Ray for 2011 it seems. Will include deleted scenes like the above.

I was kinda hoping that the original theatrical versions would make it to Blu-Ray. But I agree with Dphirschler, they should at least include a DVD copy of the Theatrical Version with each Blu-Ray of IV-VI with better remastering, anamorphic enhancement, and have the original mono for ANH as an audio option. But I'm glad the Saga is coming out next year to Blu (it will be the release of the 2011!). But, what about the Prequel Trilogy? Surely the theatrical versions of them still excist with Lucasfilm. They could easily be added with the Blu-Ray by seamless branching or as an exclusive DVD copy. Incidently, will the version of the Prequel Trilogy be new or the same DVD versions?

Right - so we have to wait until next year to get these on blu-ray, and an undetermined amount of time after that (if ever... the wording seemed ambiguous to me) to see the originals on blu - Gee George you're all heart!

He could afford to have the originals preserved easily - heck Mr Robert Harris said he'd preserve the films for a bargain price (or something like that - cannot remember the exact quote!).

What makes me SICK with Lucas is he releases the SE's first, and yet is obviously peppering them with deleted scenes from the originals just to get original fans who HAVE to have this stuff, to buy again. That cut scene with Luke is awsome - love how he looks like the emperor. Very ominous and a great intro. Nice to finally see how the soundtrack fits into the scene too. Instead of all the CGI crap and revisions he's made to the films he could have inserted footage like that instead. Imagine the joy film fans would feel knowing that footage (and more) was on a blu-ray via seemless branching featuring the original theatrical versions! Would really make it a special release.

He's the ultimate stubborn skin-flint - releasing both versions together could have been achieved with ease. But noooo he has to use the old money excuse again. The fact he is one of the richest filmmakers around and knows people that would restore these films for free means nothing evidently.

Though seeing these cut scenes will undoubtedly be cool - and I will hire this out - the madness ends here. No purchase from me until the originals are given the treatment they deserve.....

Ridley Scott managed to get 5 cuts of his film onto one superb and AFFORDABLE blu-ray set (including the workprint - imagine Lucas doing that with Star Wars), and I'm sure he's not as loaded as Lucas...

He's not just one of the richest filmmakers. He's one of the richest individuals in America, period.

 Actually, as awesome as the footage seems:

a) it sounds like all the vader dialogue is re-used from other scenes

b) he says "luuuuuuuuuuuuuuke" far too many times

c) the scene of him in his chamber looks mashed together

d) it almost makes me wonder if that's mark under the cloak.  Have to wait and see.

The music fits because it was originally scored by JW in 1982.

My thoughts exactly.  I ain't buyin' shit until the original versions are released on Blu-Ray.  I'll just start pokin' around the torrent sites a couple weeks before the release date.

And that dialogue is not re-used - it's all 'new' though certainly sounds familiar on a cursory listen.

Yeah, but that's the sad irony. Think about it. Warner Brothers (one of the EEEEEEVIIIIIIILLLLLLL big Hollywood studios Lucas was fighting against) actually needed to go all out with the blade runner set in order to get people to buy it. Lucas can throw the scraps from his table and do ten times the business.

Anyway, even if Lucas intended to include a remastered OOT in this blu-ray release he wouldn't be proudly announcing it, so I wouldn't take this as a sign it's definitely not happening. Frankly, I don't see how he thinks this will do comparable business to the '04 set with nothing but the '04 version in hi-def and deleted scenes. That's what the most ridiculous part of Lucas' whole "it would be so expensive" comment is....

I know - it's so insane it's ALMOST funny! The guy is just on another planet! If he did a 'Blade Runner style' box set for each film (original, 97, 2004 and workprint with all audio options) he'd make an absolute KILLING, PLUS all fans would finally be happy! It would make sound business sense too. He'd be back in the good books again. I really cannot see that it's anything other than sheer stubbornness which stops him from doing this. He knows the fans have been asking for the originals in decent quality for years, and yet still insists on throwing out vague scraps of information that MAYBE we'll get the originals in HD like he's doing us a big favor. The SEs have been done - what more work is he talking about that's costing him so much more money to release this set?!

The man has turned into a greedy businessman. Where are these experimental indie films he was meant to work on after the prequals were done and dusted? Where has his true love of film and his creativity gone? He just cannot stop tinkering with Star Wars, and not for the better either. If he had sense, he would have done episodes 7,8 and 9 with the original cast at least 10 years back. Lets face it we didn't know their stories (novels aside) whereas we kind of knew the prequal back stories before they were made. Would have been great to see the original cast back together again with somebody like Spielberg or Cameron at the reigns, or even Kershner again. What could have been......

Anyway I digress. I think a psychologist would have a field day with Monsieur Lucas!
