I think it works either way... Marcus does sound like a Star Wars name... It was never jarring to me on the workprint.
It threw me right off.
The only way it threw me was because it was new.... A second watching showed me there was truly nothing jarring about it. I think a lot of that is because it's so embedded in our minds... A new viewer would not find it jarring in my opinion.

Interesting! I think removing C3PO at the end is a great idea in this edit too. Whereas before he was central in the end (his head gets chopped off and put on a droid, and then they get back together again), in this film he is a coward and never leaves the ship (which is pretty much in character with the OT).
Therefore R2 should be the only one at the wedding.....

Yes.... Should also note that I had to motion track this shot in reverse, so this is actually playing backwards because I forgot to change that... So, if anyone needs this shot, I'll be sure to re-reverse it. =)

If only we could eliminate all the 3p0 shots after the funeral-- then we could redub the protocol droid's voice and make it into some other droid.

Then eliminate baby Boba and make Jango into Boba... It's a slippery slope.
But simply not having 3p0 at the wedding is a big positive step all on its own. It makes the 3p0/R2 relationship a growing thing instead of a done-deal as it's presented in the PT. They aren't instantly joined at the hip, that comes later (in epIII, I guess).

Do want 3p0 in any of the shots.... I'm pretty sure I can remove him from the funeral... I think.... I know I tried to remove him in the shot on geonosis when he and R2 are leaving the ship, but there were too many moving elements in the shot, such as smoke....
Trooperman, tell me what would be ideal, and I'll go from there...

That would be great Ben. Again I apologize for taking so long with the Geonosis sequence. I'm cutting another sequence right now and they'll probably be done around the same time, so I will probably send multiple scenes at once....

To remove 3p0 from the story, all we need to do visually is remove him from the interior space ship shots as Anakin and Padme decide to rescue Kenobi.
After that, I think we can cut around his shots entirely. As far as I recall, we only see him again on the same space ship telling R2 that he won't be going out to help save Anakin.
If we re-dub the grey, sun-baked protocol droid at Owen's farm with a robotic voice that is clearly NOT Anthony Daniels then he can simply be one of the droids on the farm. He can be at the funeral and even say the line, "He's carrying a message from an Obi Wan Kenobi. Does that name mean anything to you?" It may work better coming from a different voice anyway.
Just saying. Not a big deal because TM has already made 3p0 so small in the movie that he almost causes no pain. The biggest problem he poses in SOTDS is in attempting to un-do the idea that Anakin built 3p0. If we eliminate 3p0 altogether, it also makes this ambition possible. A new TPM edit could be done which eliminates 3p0 from that movie too. Hmm.

During Anakin and Padme's discussion, 3p0 isn't even seen... You just have to cut him talking about Space travel... Or whatever the crap he was saying.

The cutaway to Padme seems unnecessary now-- the whole thing should probably be extremely brief-- like the other non-3p0 protocol droid scenes in the saga. Almost a one-line and off thing. The shorter it is, the more convincing it will be as a non-3p0 droid.
Good news about how easy it may be to cut around this character. That is, good news to everyone but TM who has to deal with tons of music changes every time there's a new cut he wants to do...

That's exactly the kind of attitude I'm intending for him, but I hadn't bothered writing the dialogue yet. Your example may very well be what I'm looking for :-)

What if Anakin and Padme never get married? (I say this after I've removed 3P0 from the scene.)
The whole marriage thing being the scandal was always a bit silly to me... Perhaps because where i live it's the other way around... The scandal would be... Wow, Padme is pregnant. And wow, Anakin is the father..... Wait, they aren't married are they?
It also gives them a stronger reason to look so uneasy and well, sick to their stomachs when Padme delivers the news that she's carrying Anakin's child...
Just food for thought....
