The "not 720p, and not from a laserdisc" edition

Thanks for this, Moth3r.

I've created remastered x264 versions of each of these films using g-force's scripts. I'm interested in adding several different audio mixes to each of my x264 films and am trying to find out what audio mixes are available for each of the three films. Could you possibly list them in this thread? What are the best mixes/differences between them that are worth adding to each film? I download hairy_hen's recently completed SW 70mm mix today and am trying to source Belbucus' SW 77 Mono Mix (if anyone can PM links to this, I would appreciate that). I gather that for each film the Stereo PCM mixes ripped from the 93 LaserDiscs are considered better than the GOUT stereo mixes, is this correct? Are there anymore mixes available?

Thanks.

I love having all of the audio options, but is g-force's a lot better than dj's gout-sourced and the pwnage?

As far as video quality is concerned, dj is using g-force's scripts to remaster the GOUT for his releases. His v2 of the films use an older version of g-force's scripts but I believe he is going to do a v3 using g-force's most current and best filter scripts. g-force has developed and improved upon the video filtering used by Moth3r in his pwnage edition. If you are wanting a DL DVD version of the remastered GOUT then dj's versions would be good for you, but if you are wanting to use g-force's scripts to remaster the video and encode to some other format other than MPEG2, like myself, then you would be best doing the Avisynth processing yourself.

That's a thought!  Encoding the lossless AVI produced by the scripts to h.264 should look appreciably better than MPEG-2.  Is there any chance that you could make an MKV available?  If so, please PM me. :-)

Chewtobacca: Yep, higher quality (no extra MPEG2 artefacts) and more importantly I have IVTC'd the films so they play at 23.976 fps, so no horrible 3:2 pulldown anymore!

I'll try and make my x264 mkvs available once they're done. I created versions last year using v4 of g-force's scripts, but will be re-doing them with his latest scripts (including RotJ when he releases that). I also hope to collect all of the available mixes for each film (in FLAC for the 2.0 mixes and AC3 for the 5.1 mixes). I'll post when they're ready, could be a few months away yet though.

That is excellent news, pupil.  What with the unexpected release of Adywan's theatrical restoration of ESB, it is ROTJ that I am most interested in now.

Thank you for your efforts.  I shall eagerly await the results.  :-)

That's a nice breakdown of all custom DVD's so far, will come very handy. Thanks.

We want you to be aware that we have no plans—now or in the future—to restore the earlier versions.

Indeed!  This makes things a LOT easier to keep clear.  Thanks.

With thanks to Darth Mallwalker, I've now added screenshots of g-force's DVD and DJ's V1 to the comparison page here. As you would expect, the image is almost identical, just some slight differences in the cropping. It should be noted that a still shot alone doesn't show you g-force/DJ's stabilized wobble, which is a deal breaker for some.

Can anyone help fill in the MattmanOmega and DJ V3 release details & screenshots? Also planning on adding Lee's technicolour project when complete.

For any audio that is lossy there would be no gain from a FLAC conversion if they are 320kbps or below.  All it would do is make the file size bigger.  Just a thought anyways.

I've got the MattmanOmega set burned already...which screen caps would you like to see available?

I actually used a different set of shots for the Custom DVD comparison.

http://moth3r.heliohost.org/dvd-screens.htm

Frames 4626, 5130, 7255, 11070, 26317 and 70943.

Jetrell, can you use DGIndex to export the raw frame as a BMP?

Okay, I figured out myself how to use it....only issue is there were like 2 shots I think where I couldn't get at the exact frame but I have all 5 .bmp's.

Where would you like me to post them?

Thanks for the offer of help, if you could put all the shots into one zip file and upload them somewhere that'd be great.

The shot above is the wrong frame - you might need to add 15 onto each frame number to account for the blank cell at the beginning of the first VOB file. Also can I have the untouched 720x480 screens, so that I can resize them using exactly the same method as the others for consistency?

I can fix the DJ V3 for you if someone else haven't done that already?
