Agreed. I'm intending to eliminate as much reused music from TPM as possible. Either taking them from entirely new sources, or creating them from original OT tracks.

Having said that, I have used the force fanfare from The opening battle of TPM in the Geonosis battle. But only because it works so well for my purposes. You'll see what I mean when I post a clip. You'll also see that I've shamelessly stolen a lot of ideas from SSWR :P

you should check out the clone wars series for some soundtracks as well

I did actually have a look at that link when you posted it in another topic. I don't want to seem like I'm shooting down your idea (as lord knows I need all the ideas people can give me) but in my opinion, the music in The Clone Wars is too high pitched and cartoony for use in my edit.

But I appreciate the idea, and urge you to keep them coming!

that's fine by the way what kind of kotor music are you considering to use?

There are a couple of tracks from KOTOR2 I might be using for the clone reveal on Kamino and the final clone army shots before the end credits.

They're titled 'Czerka Site' and 'Onderon Battle'.

I'm currently uploading a rough arena clip. It needs a lot of work with the sound, and locating a cue for the end is like finding a fart in a jacuzzi. Help me SSWR! You're my only hope.

Hey, dude, don't you think that little scene with Padme (1:26-1:31) would fit better before 1:49 (where she is still messing with those handcuffs)? You know, like, connecting those two handcuff scenes into one. That little 5 second cut takes you out of that Obi-Wan fight a little bit.

I don't know, I think it would look better that way. But it's up to you of course.

I'll certainly look into it.

In order for rescoring the battle to work properly (without ramping up the volume of the added track to drown out the old one- a bit of a copout and would make for an unbalanced sounding movie) I'm going to have to rebuild the sound effects as they appear, only without the music.

Still, for the purposes of a youtube video, I think I should have ramped up the music in this case, just to demonstrate better. I may reupload.

In order to achieve what I want, I'm going to need a Star Wars sound effects library. For dialogue (which is thankfully only one line) I'll have to make do with what I've already got, but an Anakin soundboard being released by starwars.com soon would be useful.  When they do, I imagine "you call this a diplomatic solution?" will be amongst the sounds, judging by the fact that Padme's soundboard already has the "agressive negotiations" response.

Anyway. Does anyone know of any good Star Wars sound effects libraries for download? I'm talking the usual fare - lightsaber ignite, lightsaber retract, lightsaber idle, lightsaber swing, lightsaber deflect, different laser blasts, explosions etc etc. Maybe even some non star wars scifi sounds too.

Also, SSWR, I still can't for the life of me find that cue that you end the battle with (after dooku points his finger to stop the droids)

Sorry for the delay! Yes that very last bit is from ANH. I wish I could tell you where exactly...I've forgotten.  :(  And yes it was goodmusicans version he released a while back that I used.

Hey the arena is coming together quite nicely! I don't have time to go into specifics right now...but it looks good! I'm so glad Jango isn't there  ;)

For some reason, I was convinced it was from the trench run music, but I can't for the life of me find the bugger!

I'm glad the arena scene is on the right track. When you have time, I'd be grateful for any suggestions/criticisms. I'm aware that some minor things still need sorting (such as Padme's apparently indestructable coccyx) and the sound, obviously, which will be quite time consuming.

I've found a few fanfilm pages that suggest that the jedi knight and phantom menace games are good sources for extracting clean sound effects, however judging by the age of the games, I'm guessing this advice is somewhat dated. I'm sure someone out there will have already done all the legwork and assembled a complete, high quality library of sounds. I just need to find the right one. Any help is appreciated.

I'm also wondering what people think of one of my favourite cuts. When Padme swings down to knock the Nexu off the pole. I've trimmed lots of it where she frankly took an implausible amount of time to descend and in the close up shot it actually looked like she was just running along the ground while swaying slowly back and forth. It's more sudden now. More jarring to those who are used to the (fake) way it was before, but I think it works. Feel free to correct me if you disagree. I won't be offended. :)

I'll see if I can find that cue once I'm home...

About the arena cut:

-question: is dooku a sith? rouge jedi? I can't remember...

-Padme's swing down to the nexu is better...I still would personally cut it altogether...it's a little too...bad ass...? she's starting to look too Jedi-like in her abilites... but maybe that's just me...

-yeah definantly look at fixing padmes jump off

-new jedi reveal with new music works great!

-there's proabably not a great way around this but mace is all smoky! lol ;)

more too come...

Much appreciated, man! I've gone through the whole ANH soundtrack twice and can't find it for the life of me!

Also, is there a thread here about Goodmusician's tracks?

Yeah, Dooku's a rogue Jedi. If you notice, I've put his unhappy reaction from Jango's beheading when Padme gets scratched by the Nexu.

I'll have to see what I can do about getting rid of the swinging badassedness - I've always had a problem with it too. Thankfully this is before my inserted music, so won't affect the flow of things. Maybe I can cut it so that Anakin on the reek comes in the nick of time before the Nexu goes back up to finish her off.

I knew you'd pick up on that! Haven't you heard of a little thing called showmanship? ;)

Yes! Well I was gonna post the link but I see you've found it! :D

I did indeed notice...that was why I asked. I thought if he was going to be a Sith than this inserted shot would really be out of place. But since he is a rogue Jedi this makes some sense.

Maybe I can cut it so that Anakin on the reek comes in the nick of time before the Nexu goes back up to finish her off.

Yeah that could work..hmm

the only other thing I might suggest is putting that geonosian cannon thingy further into the battle so it feels like the Jedi are getting wiped out towards the end of the battle...not the beginning. I know that kind of messes with the continuity of the pillars of smoke in the background...but IMO it will better help the battle build towards a climax. my 2 cents

Taking your ideas on board :)

In regards to the goodmusician thread, I'm wondering 2 things:

1. If the arena music you use in your youtube clip is from AOTC, where did goodmusician get it? It's not on the soundtrack cd to my knowledge.

2. Is there any way of you getting them uploaded anywhere so that I may have them? :)

A couple of other things I'm wondering if you noticed about my clip:

1. Anakin now tames the beast with a mind trick (the force theme plays)

2. If you ignore the direction of the deflected bolts in a few frames (which I intend to change), Kit Fisto now plays tennis with another jedi, who then deflects it towards Gunray.

Thoughts?

I've since changed the clip in a few ways, but intend to implement your suggestions if I can.

the music at the end of SSWR's clip is from the battle of yavin: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fYFUc74hpPU at about 1:11,  but its edited to end at that point (with vegas if i understand right)

I KNEW it was from that song, but I just couldn't find it.

Thanks, Fishy!

EDIT: No wonder I haven't been able to find it! That cue isn't in the version I have. The track on my CD is called 'The Last Battle'

So damn confusing when the song on a soundtrack is the same, yet different from the song in the movie!

You'll have to forgive my slow responses...I only have internet at work right now.

I'll see what I can do to upload them this week...

I didn't notice the deflecting of the bolt! very nice!

Another thought I've had about rearranging shots in the battle is this: since you intend to replace all of the sound effects in this scene you should take every oppertunity to rethink where every shot is placed within the battle. the original version is very chaotic. there's no real build up to the jedi being surrounded. there no real thought as to where the characters are or how the battle is progressing. an example i thought of is: obiwan killing the green monster thingy. he kills it towards the end of the battle. my thought is "wouldn't obiwan kill this monster sooner? it's just getting in the way." I mean, that's MY thought process...but you get the idea. another: "Would Nute Gunray be hanging around once the jedi arrive?" ;)

Rough cut is finished (for the third or fourth time). This doesn't really bother me much though, as each time has been an improvement on the last.

Next step will be fixing all the wipes, and then the sound.

I'm still looking for sound effects libraries for my edit. I've heard about a website called http://www.fan-files.com that's meant to include an archive called the Sound Bunker, which has pretty much anything you could possibly need.

Unfortunately, the website is down. I don't know since when, or whether it's ever going to be restored.

Anyone know of this site? Or know of ways of finding out when this host failure it mentions happened?

Author

yeah, I used the site on a frequent basis... Not sure when it's coming back.

Brash have you looked at all the physical models in the making of books and behind the scenes footage? There were more built for AOTC than the entire OT combined. Not everything is CG.

Author
Time

If I recall from watching Daveytod's 'The Clones Revealed', a lot of the models they built would have a layer of CG superimposed over them, defying the point of physical models entirely. Lol.

Unfortunately I don't have a making of book for AOTC. Only ROTS. Would be interested to see all the stuff they built.
