So apparently the MPAA has gone batshit insane and is suing individual torrent downloaders of copyrighted movies. Do you think this will have an impact on the fan edit community, at least for us USian's (of course I have the DVDs of the movies I get fan edits of but I doubt that would hold up in court)? Discuss.
Hasn't Lucas and Lucasfilm encouraged what's done here? If the copyright holders don't mind, I don't see a problem.

Hmm...I guess. But plenty of people make fanedits of other films as well. Perhaps this would have been more appropriate in the "fan edits of other films" section
With file sharing services such as Rapidshare and Megaupload. Torrent sites a slowly becoming a thing of the past already. As always, the Government is late to the dance. By the time they put anything into effect. It will be a thing of the past. IMO

Rapidshare is uber-slow if you don't have a Premium account. Torrents are faster, easier, and more reliable.
Also, the MPAA is not the government, they are a private organization that represents the motion picture "industry"...sometimes seems like they think they have governing powers though :p
If you want free publicity for your fan edit call the thing Uncross the Stars.

There's a thread for discussing RS vs torrents vs newsgroups etc. but I was too lazy to look for it.
Also, there's a thread on FE.org right now about how RS is talking about cracking down as well. Of course, that will probably kill their business model, but whatevs.

I just don't do slow torrents...lol. If the edit is popular, chances are its well seeded.
