The trailer was OK.  Not enough quick cuts for a finale, and some frames from shots after the shot you used were not cut out.

Well, I'll just have to hear it in the film. Regardless, if it's seamless, that's great in itself.

A-man, how is work coming?

I haven't really followed this project, but that trailer looks great A-Man! It makes both stories seem even more epic. Think I'd have to visit this thread more often.

About your pneumo, I know what a b**** those can be, I've had three of them, even though I'm a non smoker, like you (but I am quite tall and skinny :P).

I completely agree. I'll be releasing another Trailer I think, but in terms of quick cuts, I was using a computer that wouldn't allow smooth video previews. I now have a far more powerful desktop so if I do another trailer it'll be a lot easier to have quick cuts and to time them properly. Also, just keep in mind that fishing through 7.5 hours of footage for a 2 minute video isn't as easy as it looks, haha.

It's coming alright, I've run into another speedbump I've hit before. AVI's wont import into the timeline. I've had this problem before and fixed it then, but I've forgotten. I'll figure it out soon! I'm almost certain it just has to do with codec settings. And I'll have a full week to work on the edit after this week.

Nice to see another interested individual! It makes completing this thing worth while knowing how many people around the world want to see it. It really is a dream come true now that fan-editors can edit films in their own homes and share them with people around the world! Thank God for great computers and the Internet!!!

The DVD will be done when its done. I'm working as fast as I can. I know I would like to get it done by August. We'll see what happens though. And I don't really understand your second point... :S

Just a quick message to anyone out there who has ever had an idea for a fan-edit: Get in there and try it! I've been learning so much and getting better as I've been moving along. After the first render I spent some time analyzing the movie to that point and then I went back, realizing I could do better after all I had learned and came up with something I'm happy with. Also remember, people might give you too much or too little credit, just remember to do this for yourself. Ask for other opinions and take the ones you like. I've had a lot of fun doing this and I'm sure many of you will too!

Ever since I've bought the new computer I can't get AVIs to play in Vegas... I've tried everything!!! I'll have to convert them to something else first. It's weird, some AVIs work, but others don't. Anything I ripped from DVD fab doesn't won't, but AVIs from cameras work. I feel there's a missing codec, but it works plays outside of Vegas.

I can't remember. I thought they were just Xvid or Divx. They play in Windows Media Player just not in Vegas. They worked in Vegas on my old computer (which is how I edited the films) but they won't play in Vegas on my new computer.

Please tell me you are not using XVID/ DIVX as your source file to edit with. Vegas has many problems with using these codecs and screws the field orders up causing blended fields and other video anomalies, plus the compression problems with video noise etc would really put a dampener on all your hard work. I noticed in your trailer there were some really bad blended field problems which were very noticeable during the saber fights. I thought it was just down to youtube or something but now you have said what codec you are using is all became clear. Did you remove the 2:3 pulldown when ripping with DVD Fab?. You really need to do this first because Vegas can be very picky with removing the pulldown. And is your project set to 23.976fps or 29 fps?

You would have been better ripping the DVDs to a m2v file with DVDDecrypter in stream mode and this way you are using the original files for your edit with no further compression. If vegas plays up with importing the m2v file just remux it to a mpeg2 container minus the audio first. If the files you imported into your vegas project were the direct rips from the dvds in xvid format then just re-rip them as mpegs and replace each movie file in your project with the mepg versions.

Vegas is pretty hit and miss when it comes to importing XVIDS. this thread may be of some help to you

I removed the pull down, edited in 23.976fps and then rendered in 23.976fps with the added pulldown. The final version looks fine. I think I'll have to convert the files to something else and then make the DVD videos. Ady how long did it take you to make the DVD Menus?

I figured out the problem (sort of) it's not in DivX or Xvid, it's encoded using MPEG. I even changed the file extension to MPEG, M4V, MPG, MP4 etc. and it plays in Media Player but not in Vegas. I installed a bunch of codecs, still no help. All other AVIs and WMVs work in Vegas, just not the ones with MPEG encoding.

i've never had a problem importing mepg file in vegas before.

what does vegas say when you try to import the mepg file?

But you did say originally that it is an avi file so this would not have been encoded as an MPEG file at all, apart from maybe an mp4 but you can't change the extension of that to mpeg as this won't work.  open the file using vlcmedia player and check the video information to see what codec is being used.

It says MPEG-4 for the codec and when I changed the extension to MPEG it DID work. I even changed it to MOV and it worked, just not in Vegas. Vegas would import it but wouldn't play it, give a preview image or place it in the timeline. I just converted it to WMV.

This is odd... in Vegas and in Media Player, the AC3 channels are mapped correctly, but in the DVD Architect preview, everything comes out of the wrong speaker. If I ignored this and burned the DVD, would it play properly or would Architect have re-mapped everything to the wrong speaker? Anyone know?

Speaking of Sony Vegas, I was doing some colour correction to Attack of the Worst Movie Ever, and came to the realization that I need a better computer, and a bigger screen. My Dell is so old, that I have to wind it up to get it started.

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

I've run into a bit of a problem here... I'm over the DVD-9 limit! Even if I put the Special Features on another disc, I'm at 8.6Gb with just the main video... I'll see what I can do. For now expect this to be a 2-Disc project with the second disc being Bonus Features.

I'm at 101% of media usage! DAMN YOU 1%!!!! DAMN YOU!!!

Ok, I removed all of the DVD Menu videos (except the Intro) and the special features and the animated previews and there will now be two options:

2-Disc DVD:

Disc 1 - Basic Menu and Film

Disc 2 - Special Features

ISO Method:

Disc 1 - The Better Menu (with Intros, Transitions and Animated Thumbnails) and Film

Disc 2 - Special Features

Disc 1 - DVD-9

Disc 2 - DVD-5

Be warned that Disc 1 - ISO will be almost 9Gb!!! Would people be interested in this method?

EDIT: Just a quick update of things to do:

1. DVD Cover (To be featured in Spot)

2. 30-Second Web Spot (To be featured on DVD)

3. DVD (All done now, just need step 2 to be put on here)

No-one is going to want an ISO that's too big to burn!

So you got your sizes wrong - just encode the main title again, this time using a lower bitrate to ensure that it will fit into the size available.

The differences would be:

No opening logos to the DVD

That Opening Video I showed a few weeks ago is cut

The Scene Selections Intro Video is cut

Scene Selection Thumbnails are Still Images

It still has the scene selection menus, the main menu with preview video and background music and the intro to the main menu. But if people would be want to have what I originally envisioned, that's what they'd have to go with and then mount it to a Virtual Drive.
