I'm VERY excited about all this. I look forward to seeing your work. I thought the project was scrapped when the thread became inactive for a long time. But I was wrong! Seems like you're almost done? Don't worry too much about finalizing and releasing it. You can always get some feedback and make a 2nd version or something. Or you can give it to someone else if you want to move on to other things.

Thank you SO MUCH for coming up with the idea and working on this.

I began work on it and realized peicing it together won't be hard once the other footage is sized and corrected. I am going to make a bare copy with a first mix for the audio. I am going to take the feedback and put some more ideas into it. My coworker wanted a video made for his friend who recently passed away. He said he would work on the audio so I am going to get some insight from him. It will take a while because of school and work, but once it is done, I will send out or with some help upload the first 'draft'.

I will sent one very soon and we'll figure out the best method of me sending the files. Thanks in advance!

Do they put the text for the credits over that out-take footage as it plays on the "Bruce Lee in G.O.D." DVD?

sorry for the long delay for this response. I watch again Bruce Lee in GOD last night and the outtakes are in 16X9 scope mode, without any credits on them.

Does anyone have the NTSC version of Bruce Lee - A Warrior's Journey before the rerelease bundled with Enter the Dragon?

The one bundled with Enter the Dragon doesn't seem to have the storyline recreation we need (at the beginning of the clip it says "The Story" on the title card).

This sounds like a really cool project.

Okay, so basically I am going to get a new copy of Game of Death and a copy of prereleased DVD of A Warrior's Journey. I'll keep you posted TAVCD and I still got you aim.

So, uh...what's up with this thing?

Me and two other people were working on this for a bit but had quite a few problems with the video and finding high quality versions of the scenes we needed. I left this on hiatus until I get something going with it. I am actually obtaining a DVD containing hours of unused scenes etc. that weren't in G.O.D.

Hi:

I just have to ask how this bruce lee fan edit is coming along?

It sounds really cool !

Thanks!

Seems that it fizzled out some time last year, which is a shame.

Anyway, your post reminded me of a related question, for anyone who might know. Which DVD contains the highest-quality version of the Bruce Lee/Kareem Abdul-Jabbar footage?

There are currently two versions of the footage floating about (in the UK at least):

HK Legends' release of Game of Death which has the fight edit as put together for the Japanese release of Bruce Lee: Game of Death

A Warrior's Journey which has pretty much the same fight edit, but allegedly put together by John Little and dubbed over by him as well (he did the brief dub for Bruce Lee in the extended version of Enter The Dragon).

Both of these were apparently put together from Bruce's note and are as high a quality as you'll get, but I reckon the HK Legends version to be of a higher quality.

Thanks for the answer - I've since found this comparison which seems to show the Fortune Star Region 3 DVD is better quality than the HKL release.

BTW is it just me or is http://www.dvdcompare.net/ having problems at the moment?

I'm not entirely sure that the Fortune Star release has the re-edited Game of Death on it which the HKL one does - although I do agree that the Fortune Star release has a nicer picture quality to the actual movie as it is. Just to add more to the pot, the re-edited fight sequence included on the HKL disc was also released on it's own as a documentary in Japan. The 2000 release of this is apparently superior to the 2003 re-release bar one editing error which was corrected in the 2003 version. By all accounts, the 2003 version is significantly worse than both the original 2000 release and the John Little version of the same footage.

So, basically anybody can pick up from where 5avage left off?

What would be the best video source material for a Game of Death fan edit?

1. G.O.D. (fortune star version)

2. The Warrior's journey

3. Bruce Lee : Legend

There was a guy on youtube who did a fanedit of Game of Death called G.O.D. : the Integral version, which he said turned out to be 2 1/2 hours long! The youtube clips he showed on youtube looked pretty good.  Has anybody ever seen G.O.D. integral?

 Just wondering, thanks!

This is what I have and can contribute that may be of some use.

1) Fan made compilation DVD-R  of official Bruce Lee directed and shot Game of Death fight out-takes from the Game of Death pagoda fight scenes. I don't remember any of this having original audio, just some music put on by a fan. It has footage not seen on any of the other disks below. These are all aborted takes.

2) Hong Kong Legends Box Set (PAL Region 2); This has all 4 of the Bruce Lee Golden Harvest produced Hong Kong films in great quality. It includes the 2 disc edition of "Game of Death". As an extra, it includes 15 minutes of the edited pagoda fight scene from 1972, 5 deleted scenes from the 1978 film, and some making of documentaries. ("Enter the Dragon" is not on this set, and it was produced by both Golden Harvest and Wanner Brothers. And so that title alone is handled under different distribution contracts.

3) Bruce Lee in G.O.D. (PAL Region 2)

4) Documentary: Biography:Bruce Lee The Immortal Dragon

5) Documentary: Bruce Lee The Man... The Myth I think this is the one with lots of footage of news footage of the funeral.

6) Goodbye Bruce Lee (His Last Game of Death) I believe this is the original post-death exploitation movie (released in 1975) built around Game of Death footage. It predates the official Golden Harvest 1978 Game of Death reconstruction, and stars Bruce Li. Like the 1978 movie, it's story has very little to do with what Bruce Lee had planned out for his aborted version.

7) Bruce Lee, The Lost Interviews

8) Game of Death Two (PAL Region 2) This film has very little to do with the original Game of Death beyond the title. Yet, is a very good movie with enjoyable commentary track.

9) Bruce Lee, a Warrior's Journey This is the holy grail of footage and background into Game of Death. This documentary has the pagoda fight footage with different music. Very good background on Game of Death and what lead up to the making, and tragic end of the Game of Death project, and Brice Lee. His wife had lots of input on this. It's also the most watched Bruce Lee title in my collection next to "Enter the Dragon".

10) "Enter the Dragon" (2-disk Special Edition) This also includes Bruce Lee, a Warrior's Journey as a bonus extra.

11) "Enter the Dragon" Soundtrack CD. You may need this for music.

12) Documentary: The Legend Lives On.

I also have an mpg file of the infamous G.O.D. storyline video/movie. this title should not to be confused with "Bruce Lee in G.O.D.".

TV's Frink is correct.  If you need to trade or borrow footage from any officially licensed products, please keep any method of that transfer in private. You can say what you own or what you plan to do with footage out in the open. What you can't do is offer or request such media as an illegal upload/download, or request a copy of officially licensed products (books, music, photos, films) here in an open forum.   Just remember that Private Messages are wonderful things.  This website does not (and never has) condone, support, or encourage any illegal activity that would violate copyright (or any other) laws, and we all must respect that rule.

Just found this on IMDB.

 http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0077594/alternateversions

...features a 127 min cut of the film featuring:

  • A large majority of Bruce Lee's original footage not used in the official release. This is most notable in the final three fights as there is now dialog between Billy Lo and Pasqual as well as with Hakim. The final three fights added up to only 10 minutes in the 1978 release, but the combined length of the fights in this cut is 25 minutes.
  • The greenhouse fight in the Hong Kong version is also in this cut along with an extended scene before the fight in which Billy Lo is training on his outdoor balcony as he hears banging noises from the other room. This is actually footage from Meng Long Guojiang with new sound effects added. Also, when Billy comes back to his apartment after the fight, he finds a note reading "Have you two made out your wills?" along with a phone call from Dr. Land in which all he says is "You bastard!" with a follow up villainous laugh.
  • The opening theme is replaced with an updated version of the Game of Death theme originally created for the Japanese film Bruce Lee in G.O.D.
  • The infamous "cardboard cutout head" shot shown in all other versions has been replaced with a close up shot of Bruce Lee from Jing Wu Men.
  • The even more infamous shot of the real corpse of Bruce Lee from his actual funeral has been replaced with a horizontally flipped shot of the outside of the funeral parlor with all of the fans standing outside.
  • All of the fake Bruce Lee yells have been replaced with real yells from stock audio.
  • The film's ending is an extension of the Hong Kong ending in which Billy Lo is arrested. However, the scene inter-cuts with Billy Lo (from the original Bruce Lee footage) walking back down the stairways of the Red Pepper Restaurant complex ending with him yelling out to the police in Cantonese "Help me!" One officer looks up and replies "Hurry down!" The scene ends with Billy Lo being taken away by the police, then fading to a tracking shot revealing the yellow and black tracksuit laying over top of a chair in an editing room and a narrator reading from Lee's Tao of Jeet Kune Do discussing "The Void".
  • The film also ends with a large number of bloopers and outtakes from Bruce Lee's original Game of Death footage.

I have not seen the compilation described above, but sounds just like the Game of Death project you are working on.

Wowzers. Long time no see guys. Was looking on my HDD on my mac (has been dead for a year) and found all of the stuff I was working on. I think I am going to transfer it all to my laptop and finish it :/. Dunno who would still be interested. Anyway, if anyone knows any good Windows/PC software I can use for this (since I was using FCP on my Mac and can't now). I used a Ulead program for Turtles 4 but can't remember the name. Burns I pm'd you. I have a SD copy of the reenactment footage and I have a DVD of A Warrior's Journey, plus I have 'The Legend of Bruce Lee' TV series and want to use some footage from there. I think what would be most helpful in getting this done is collaborating and figuring out what goes together and what doesn't. The major concern is the missing footage of Bruce fighting on the first two floors, which could be pieced together by using knock-off Bruce films like 'Goodbye Bruce Lee: His Last Game of Death'.
