Well Seinar Fleet does develop TIEs in mass in a variety of facilities so it's possible that construction material would not be uniform through out different manufacturing facilities. As a matter of uniformity and symbolism however, having them that same cold military gray makes them more menacing...

It's kinda like the immortals in 300. You kill one but another quickly takes it's place, a never ending horde of destruction that the enemy would feel exhausted at fighting the same enemy over and over... Psychologically it makes more sense for the Empire to drain the morale of a enemy force to get in their head that they can not win. That's why ISDs and SSDs like the Executor were built at such an massively large scale... Intimidation to the point of surrender without a fight saves the Empire resources over all. The Empire plays under Tarkin's doctrine of "Rule by fear and terror"... Making them an uniform color makes sense. =D (I know, lots of EU there... but it makes sense eh? ;) ).

Just wondering if the SDs should have hangars in this(and the other shots)?

Nope! On that side it's just a wide bay with doors closed.

You could open it though…

Unless you want to totally change the SD's design?

The TIE bombers were not the only blue-looking TIEs in ESB. The regular TIE Fighters looked blue in some parts too. I do not think it was intentional, and I think that the original intention was that they were going to be gray. However, due to some errors in lighting the blue screen, it's possible that the blue ended up reflecting off of the gray TIE models and they ended up looking blue, and since color correction was limited back in 1980 they left them that way.

Whatever the cause, for consistency's sake the TIE Fighters should not be blue, and if you're going to make all of the TIE Fighters gray then you might as well assume the TIE Bombers should be gray, too. Blue is out of place for the otherwise colorless imperials, anyway.

Who dragged up the debate of the colours of the TIE's this time??? Are you having fun yet?

True that, vaderios -

....that original shot you mocked-up already shows the correct view of the SD's inner bay detailing.

Well, that only assumes that all ISDs have the exact same cookie cutter design as well... I think of it like air craft carriers, there are a few of them, they looks similar overall (llike when you see one it's instantly recognizable) but configuration and layout in some areas could be very different. Love these mock ups. XD Very nice!

Hahaha... Usually my reputations proceeds me. ;) I'll do my best from going all out concerning EU here though. It'd just cause mass confusion and panic, kinda like Godzilla taking a stroll through Tokyo. =P

Hey, Ming. Welcome to the boards :)

I haven't had chance to read through all the new stuff yet but i'll answer a few that i've seen so far...

The only issue I as a newb could see in the trailer was that it might be nice to get a better coloring/shading on the Falcon on the Bespin Landing pad when they enter the city with Lando.  It looks a bit out of focus and no where near as clear as it does while it's taking off in a hurry.

It should be slightly out of focus in that shot because the focus is on the foreground characters and not on the ship. The main sections of the ship are the same they were in the original so the focusing is exactly the same

Coming back around still even ady posted previous shots that indicating the falcon arrives at sunset still like the idea of sunrise :)

It's definitely going to be sunrise in my version.

Looks very cool... although I've always liked the fact Cloud City looked a dot in the distance. It's reminiscent of the Death Star in the distance as the Millenium Falcon approaches in A New Hope... "he's heading for that small moon!"... it's this small object in the distance that you only get a sense of the massive scale and detail of once you get up close... and boy does Cloud City do that!

That was a nice 'Bespin' shot vaderios, but I must agree with Vincent's comment here.  The original 'sunlit' reveal of the small, distant 'Cloud City' was always one of my favourite establishing 'beauty' shots in the movie, I have to say.

I just wonder if and how Adywan will tweak it in any way....

And I agree with the way doubleofive recently described how he always saw the Falcon's arrival as being at 'sunset'....with the events of Leia pacing in the apartment coming during the next day, and everything else taking place up until the Falcon blasted off in the evening....  Interesting that Adywan saw the 'Falcon' as arriving at a 'sunrise', and all the following events taking place on the same day up until the evening....

It will all still look glorious I'm sure.

As others have said, there's something about the original shot, with the sun breaking through the clouds to reveal the city in the distance...  I wouldn't want to lose it.

Unfortunately that reveal shot is going. The sun is behind the city whereas in every other shot the sun is facing the city (as has been discussed before) and you can see from the new close-up city matte as the falcon approaches the sun will be facing the city. So this shot has to go as it stands now. Even though i have always loved that shot myself it just doesn't work within the edit now but i will be replacing it with a new reveal shot which will still have the city in the distance

Myself, I like the idea of the Falcon arriving at sunset. I think that because that has always been how it was, it will feel very strange for me to adapt to sunrise instead. It is not only a change in the visuals in this case, but a change to the actual timing of events.

I'm pretty sure that it was always meant to be sunrise when they arrived.  Just take a look at the GOUT. When they leave the platform and walk down the stairs the windows clearly shows it is daytime. It almost looks like there was a section edited out between those 2 shots. Talking of which i found a very interesting photo the other day. When they are going for the dinner when they turn the corner there was originally another shot in between which would explain the continuity problem with their positions. They originally turned and walked across an uncovered walkway.

I have the strongest possible suspicion that the elevator will not only remain but will corrected in the shots it's missing at great effort and with great effect.

The window will be seen in all shots that it was missing in the SE

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I'm glad Ady confirmed the completion of the lift, I tried to dance around the fact that it was well on the way to completion on the clip I won in workprint tombola.

It will look great.

Will you maybe consider at least putting Bespin a bit closer? Sort of meeting half way :)

Good to see you back Adywan, and thanks for the confirmation.

I'm sorry to see that the 'sunrise' in the small, distant Cloud City reveal is going....even though I agree with the point about the 'lighting' issues.

In this particular case, I guess I was happy to overlook the 'continuity' problem of this 'twin sun' system shot, due to the atmospheric beauty of the it.  Still, 'continuity' counts for a lot where possible, and I know your final shot will turn out great regardless.

....and the additional background 'elevator' windows are going to look terrific I'm sure!  :)

Well, we've seen one reveal shot of Cloud City before and it was stunning. I'm sure this one will be a great companion piece. Heh.

Great to see you here again, too. :) I hope things are going well.

Personally I was thinking that shot is impressive enough that it would be worth fixing all other shots instead. But that is a lot of work and I suppose doing this is fine too.

As for the colour of TIE fighters, I must say it is painfully obvious that the blue colour is the bluescreen leaking, in the GOUT you can clearly see the colour flickering all over the place with plain grey underneath. But that's not to say a blue colour is necessarily bad. I think the slightly blue tint of light in nearly all space shots is heavily part of the expression of the film. And so colour corrections like the one vaderious posted doesn't sit too well with me. You are removing what appears to be a conscious effort to tint the shot.

Your reveal shot was one of my favorite shots in the trailer..... please don't cut it.

Couldn't you keep the shot and then have the falcon fly to the other side and turn around coming in from the other angle? YOu do have a falcon model...

Just a thought...
