Actually, I think imagining the outer wall spinning would be quite effective. I would NOT do the energy thing (and the lightning bolt), as that may just come off as too over the top (Bingo: I know its a roughie.. just sayin)
An alternate idea could be to keep the walls grey as they are (but spinning around, say in a counter-clockwise motion - there are 6 wall panels behind the reactor; movement could be as fast as the right panel moving to the left panel's position in .5 to .7 seconds), but lighting the central core up per the last AKIRA image link (with the bluish and purplish lighting), especially the darker grey area connecting the ceiling spherical section with the lower light grey area. 
I would consider making the small area to the right of the central reactor core an area for reactor engineers (as the Empire likes to put personnel right by dangerous things, like planet killing laser beams) and add some windows, maybe some taken from the CLOSE ENCOUNTERS: SPECIAL EDITION scene (where you can see "beings" behind the windows looking out).

One could also darken the chamber, so the only light comes from what emanates from the reactor, casting a "light through water" effect on the walls.

Hey guys just thought i would upset you with an image lol. Well i always wondered if George Lucas would go too far and have CGI Yoda in the originals, so i thought more and more about it and wondered what it would look like so i went on Photoshop and had a little play with the idea.
Im sorry about the quality, just couldnt get to head to feel natural to the rest of the scene, but then again it is CGI head but i tried my best.
Opened the flood gates now lmao!

I think that this video kind of highlights that there is such a thing as going too far with the blue reduction in these movies... In the retouched shot, since the only color in it comes from the green planet in the background, it makes the whole thing look kind of sickly, and I'm not particularly keen on that. It's one thing to reduce the blues to where they don't dominate the image, but I think sometimes people get a bit carried away to the point where it feels like the color is being sucked right out of the image.
And BTW, was there any talk of showing star destroyers docked with the Death Star II? That could potentially be quite awesome.

thx! however, though endor is a forest moon, wouldn't it look more earthlike in someways? it looks more like dagobah in the deleted scene in episode III

Endor is pretty dead to me in ROTJ..

hey guys, i improved the head of yoda, any tips to make it better Angel? This is just mainly to improve my skills more than an actual suggestion for a change but never the less people are going to kill me but i quite like CGI Yoda, never had a problem with it apart from the terrible dialogue they gave him. Wouldnt actually mind him in the OT to be honest.
Improved the shadows and highlighted bit, put more yellow into the left side of the face, gave yoda a slight smile/smerk like the original picture. Hope u guys like it either way.
