I was just watching ESB yesterday and I thought about how cool it would be to have a digital Yoda. Now do not get me wrong, I loved the Yoda in ESB. I am all about continuity. It gave me some type of chills thinking if there was a completely digital Yoda in some future version of ESB. It would really help connect the two trilogies.

Option two...use the exact Yoda puppet from the OT and refilm the PT scenes. Option one is a little easier I think. Both would be equally amazing.

Anyone who is good at mockups if they could possibly do a mockup of digital Yoda in a scene with Luke and \or a picture of the original trilogy yoda in a prequel scene.

I think, some very talented cgi artist should make a new yoda for the pt. One that looks like the ESB yoda. In editing programs, I could do things to the cgi creature to look like he did in ESB if only he was shaped just like the ESB yoda. Fixing the existing PT yoda would be a frame by frame job that would take forever.

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

Starting with a mockup would be good enough for me.

Wow you really don't notice all the subtle differences until staring at both side by side and doing some ps work.

The original Yoda seemed to always have a natural smirk, his forehead ridges were more pronounced, his head shape was narrower and his eyes were much bigger.

I happen to love both. I think PT Yoda fits fine (and will work even better when TpM version is replaced) and the OT Yoda works great as well. The most that should be done to the OT version is little mouth and eye movements like AdY is doing for EsBR. Just minor tweaks here and there.

No! The original Yoda, while not as expressive as the CG one, looks much more tangible and feels a lot more real. The only tweaking that should be done to it is what Adywan is currently doing in ESB:R.

Original Yoda feels more real b/c there is a part of us that knows he was physically there on set with Mark Hammil. But he does have many fake moments as well. When he is on Luke's back with his head bobbing around lifelessly and when he does the standard puppet walk across the scene for example.

Could you imagine those scenes with Luke with the cgi yoda from the PT. They would be pretty cool.

As I have stated before I am a continuity guy.

It would be 1997 all over again. They would have CGI yoda spinning around and showing Luke how a real jedi uses a saber LOL.

The PT should be OT-ized for continuity, not the other way around.

CG Yoda in ESB would take away from the movie.

Correct.

It would be cool to see a digital Yoda on Dagobah, but thats not for a long time.  CG isn't quite there yet.

I understand that, but what is more likely?

i don't think it really matters. i feel that the OT yoda should stay as it is, with ady's improvements of course, and leave the PT yoda as it is.

thing i like about the PT yoda is that we see his facial expressions and not the same grin everytime. no offense. but when yoda's in that much fighting and tough situations, i would like to see a frown, ears drooping, sad face once in awhile.

For me they both have a certain charm. The OT Yoda has a more grounded & nostalgic feel - the PT Yoda is obviously more active & expressive. I think by the time they hit RoTS ILM really nailed it.

I'm hoping when it's all said & done all the Yoda's in the PT are consistent and in the OT if anything is done it's something along the lines of what AdY is currently doing (subtle tweaking).

I agree with Golden Idol 100% on this.

Stop trying to **** up the classic SW films!

The Prequels are NOT classics. So why the heck would you want the classics to be more like the lesser trilogy?

What adywan is doing is the perfect blend of practical and digital. It makes the scenes more effective and the puppet seem more alive. He's making the existing shots more character-oriented.

Everyone keeps talking about how good the PT Yoda was.

Okay, ILM did a great job creating a great-looking character, but can someone tell me what Yoda's purpose was in the PT?

Anyone?

What purpose did Yoda serve the story of the PT?

NOTHING.

He didn't need to be there.

You could've replaced him with Master Sock Puppet and they wouldve had the same impact on the story.

Pai Mei of th OTs.

No one is going to defend the PTs fella (well meybe nots).

Yoda should of been in the PT, but he shouldn't of had the kind of screen time he had.  Yoda was the head of the Jedi Council, thats pretty important.

I see no reason why we need a digital Yoda in the OT.  If you think about it, why did Yoda need to be CG in the PT?  Cause of pointless duels.  He should of been the same freakin puppet from the OT when he was in the Temple.

The idea of a CG Yoda was a good one, but CG isn't good enough yet.

It is weird that we go from CG to puppet. Mabey someday, CG will take a huge leap and GL will put a consistent, real looking CG Yoda in all 5 movies.

I know he's the head of the JC. But how does he impact the story? In other words, you couldn't take Padme, Kenobi, or Anakin out because they're tied directly to the storyline.

But Yoda? For the amount of screen time he has, his connection to the story is really weak.

 I completely agree.
