Well not only would it be impossible to have Vader vs. Palpatine, it would be pointless, as well. I mean, really, if they duelled, it would be over within a few seconds. Palpatine doesn't even need a lightsaber (I think ROTS needs plenty of work in this regard), he'd peel Vader apart with ease, just using the Force. As was said, he's the evil counterpart to Yoda, and Yoda would kick Luke and Vader's asses at the same time, without a lightsaber.

Now obviously Vader kills Palpatine, but that's only because he got the drop on him, and Palpatine still managed to get a fatal blow in.

On a different note, I know most people hate the Ewoks, and most reasons for that are obvious, but what sort of things can be done to make them a bit less childish? Obviously, removing their antics is key, and doing things like adding Stormtrooper helmets in their village as in the mockups, to make them seem more like strong warriors, are great, but it doesn't get past the fact that they are cuddly little teddy bears with spears. I assume Adywan will want to Cantinize their faces, but what about changing things like eyes completely? Or changing their voices to be more agressive and threatening? Just small things here and there in their appeances, since they inherently look childish, to try and minimize that.

You see George Lucas had a brilliant idea but his execution was terrible. He wanted to show that a less technilogical race could overcome a more technilogical race. For example the Zulu with spears and shield vs the British army with guns. This is why i suggest that giving some ewoks, not all though, a shield. A wooden shield. Fair enough it wouldnt be strong enough to survive a laser blast but would show that these creatures are warriors and less cuddly.

After indulging in that most guilty of pleasures the moreishly silly Harper's Island, I couldn't help but think some of the nasty traps in that show and films like First Blood would really make the Ewoks seem less cute.

You can get away with some of that stuff because the Trooper armour hides most of the gore and sound can convey a lot of nasty crunchy squish without showing too much.

Actually a bit of gore would be permisable, it's in the Star Wars idiom (hands and heads get cut off, charred corpses abound so why not at the hands of the Ewoks?).

Constructive? sure

Add The god of ewoks as insignia on the shields somewhere. I think some PT shields/weapons have some good markings you can see as reference :)

Also check your light source :D

Haha thought there would be something lol. was thinking of adding a c3po like god on their shields at first lol. Thinkin about a symbol for them too. Like the empire, rebels, seperatist, republic, jedi etc all have symbols apart from the ewoks.

If the Ewoks had been fighting the Imperials for long they would know that shields like those offered no protection, they are forest people and would need to set traps to hunt so more should be made of them using their environment as a weapon and shield.

Some of the traps we see in the film already only make sense if they know what sort of threat they are facing before the fight begins (and that's supposed to be a secret).

It would be good to see the Emperor's legion marching in to back up the troops the Rebels already know are there, only to have them picked off and worn down by traps set by the Ewoks who through stealth and observation have already detected their presence.

Setting up things like the big log traps in the few minutes Leia and Han are in the bunker without anyone noticing is beyond belief.

If they are to be kept the scale of the Imperial forces must be known to the Ewoks.

I say get rid of the tree traps and replace them with pits and the like.  Trees can still be a factor - Scout Walker steps into a pit; as Scout Walker's leg sinks down halfway, ground starts to cave ala a sinkhole; as the rest sinks in, the trees on either side topple over on top of the SW, crushing and blowing it up.

I still say give the Ewoks something explosive to account for getting through the Stormtrooper armor - be it explosive arrow heads and bolas. Maybe even having a scene where one Ewok raises his hand and we see retractable claws pop out and THEN he jumps on top of the Stormtrooper, followed by other Ewoks.  Blood wouldn't have to be shown, though some nice tearing and squishing sounds could be used ala AMERICAN WEREWOLF or something to get the idea across.  Remember that Koalas are pretty damn cute too, but have sharp claws for climbing trees and can get pretty pissed off.

C3PO like god on the shields? Just a quick idea, been playin with few ideas, wanted to go for a cave painting kinda thing. On the over all design i was going to have a cave painting like thing of ewoks carry the 'god' based on a Ralph concept paintings. C3PO decending from the heavens, but i thought i would give this a go first lol

Yes, for what they had to work with at the time, it was very well done.

But the ROTS space sequences were fantastic.  I hope when the ROTJ edit is done, the space battles look that good.

Them's fightin' words! :p

The idea is that these are primitive creatures fighting advanced tech. Sticks and stones versus hi-tech. That was the whole point Lucas went with them instead of the original Wookies.

I actually prefered the CGI battles in NuGalactica to the ones in the PT, I know it's chalk and cheese but the battles in that television show looked more dangerous and were more uncomfortable because I had a degree of emotional investment in the characters (something I never had in the PT).

If you watch the Death Star run in ANH in a cinema, even now people in the audience are leaning forward and rooting for Luke because they care about the character.

With ROTS there was none of that in any of the cinemas I saw it in the effects looked good but without characters to care about and who might die, fail or get badly injured where's the emotional impact coming from?

That was the main mistake regarding the PT.

The characters we know will survive should have been backed up with characters who's fates weren't set in stone that we actually could give a damn about.

So if they survived or died we felt something.

One of the faults with ROTJ is that other than Wedge and Lando there isn't anyone in the space battle to care about. Wedge could have been built up more in the film as could one or two other pilots (the guys in ANH are all recognisable but the pilots in ROTJ are mostly anonymous).

The pre-briefing and hanger scenes would have been a good way of getting to know in broad strokes a few of the people who would latter fight and possibly die.

That's why I'd also like to do something more with Piett's death because he is the nearest we have to that sort of thing on the other side (Jerjerrod is such a ninny that it's impossible to care about him either way).

It's not just the emotional involvement the NuGalactica battles had, which is paramount, but the actual look and behaviour of the virtual camera. That stuff looks like it was actually shot or photographed. There were little cues in the shots that really sold me.

No idea mate.

What would I do?

I'd prefer to see a montage showing the fall of the Empire rather than just a few celebrations on key worlds.

The Empire is meant to be a powerful regime covering most of a galaxy so to end the film with everyone celebrating seems a bit premature.

We saw a montage covering the murder of the Jedi in ROTS, maybe something in that vein would at least give us a bit of a feeling that the Empire didn't just fold over night.

But that's my take not Ady's.

I'm with you too! :p

Take some shots of an older Fisher, Hammill, and Ford from other films and just have a little line explaining what happened. It would be similar to Lucas' coda to American Graffitti.

Anyone remember the coda to Conan the Barbarian?

Ya it would be sweet cause it would tie the trilogies together and I am so sure if I am for no Fett in ROTJ. But you know the idea Mark Hamill had about he's going to take off that mask and it's my mother doesn't sound so bad!! And thanks for telling me about the image. You know your the only person on this form who has gone for my ideas, so thanks man!!!

Yes I agree. But like ady said PT should follow OT not the opposite.

Simple coincidence...

I think a great way to make the Ewoks more fierce seeming would be the simple addition of a shot of a pile of empty, broken Stormtrooper armor, that Han looks over and sees as he's hanging upside down about to be cooked. It implies the Ewoks have been killing Imperials for a while, and makes them scarier.

Say I could score a few armor suits, and perhaps made a set of some sort to match the Ewok village.

How could I film these, and have that image be anywhere near the necessary quality to be seeminglessly inserted into ROTJ? I'm just a simple man.

The only way to do it to break it down into perfect insert elements (like Peter Jackson did for his extended LOTR's editions).

For a rough video mockup SSWR's latest fan-o-matic was really good, imagine that but done with a HD camera and better lighting and you'd be more than halfway there.
