I love the new name you gave me ;)

yeah thats something that i have in mind when i start it.

The only thing that freezes me is the poor quality of the gunners. Maybe 501st :)

Can we take the gunner in the Star Destroyer from "Star Wars" who doesnt shoot the droids ("It doesn't have any life signs") and put him in the Battle of Endor shooting up some X-Wings or something?

Im thinking to expand that total black set to be more to ESB standards.

The new superlaser idea is that it can shoot as a continuous beam and wipe out several rebel and sometimes imperial ships.

I think Bingo had the idea

I support this idea to an extent. Yes, the Death Star is still under construction, but the laser is supposed to basically be 100% finished already (unbeknownst to the Rebellion at first). The mock-up does a great job of showing how it might look in the firing chamber as being 99% finished (just missing the fancy "shine" of the panels, as mentioned).

But the red iron stuff seems to be more like the construction of gun towers and such. I would imagine that yes, there may be some of that stuff used in the construction of the laser, but if the laser is completed enough to the point of being operational, it would need to have its interior be strong and durable... and in this case, only missing panels, nothing more.

But why does everything have to be shiny to be finished? Given the immense destructive capability of the weapon, I'm not sure a few metal panels would make any difference.

If I were to make any change, it would be to make the firing chambers immensely bigger (is immensely a word?) because I don't really feel the true power of lasers that are only as thick as the officers standing beside them.

I'd shrink down the size of the guards and their station to me very small next to the weapon, that's the only real way to give it true scale.

I think the guards should be wearing protective armour. Come on a laser that big should melt anyone standing next to it.

A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. Like when Qui gon have his hands 2 centimeters from a molten door and he was cool or obi and anakin were fighting into a lava river:)

Ah yes i forgot. those all were "Jedi"

Can't comment on Qui Gon and the molten door, but for at least most of the lava river duel, Obi Wan and Anakin were standing on top of droids and vehicles that were shielded... hence the blue glowy stuff underneath them.

Still, there was plenty of times in that duel that the heat alone should have hurt them a lot.

I just did a mock-up, using Darth Venal's matte. Mostly because I was curious to see it with something moving within it, more than anything!

Hope you guys enjoy it.

Pretty good. Dont know if it can work because of the camera angles. if you cut the AOTC clip it can work because it will be only far shots so when we meet Luke is from a far angle to a close one.

lol the comment at the end. Sounded like Manga dialogue :P

Oh no he's too badass LOL.

I agree. I wouldn't use the Duel of Fates either because it is so Anti-OT. Plus it is used way more than the imperial march.

Is this along the lines of what you are thinking? It's rough, and could definitely use some improvement, but I think it helps to get the idea across.

Both your mock-ups are great :)

I always thought those guys were too big - thus too close to the superlaser, lol. Good Job. Rated and faved.

BUAAHAHAA I LOVE IT!

Smurfs start shooting starships!

Great job on that! I really like it.

But DS really needs two dudes near a laser that the only thing to do is tremling as it fires next to them?

I mean we see a whole bunch of operators before that warming up the cannon. So they supposed to pull the trigger not the two (tiny now) gunners :)

Excellent.

That is precisely the effect I was trying to describe. I actually wouldn't have made them so small, as they're quite hard to see (then again, I haven't seen that on a big TV), but it does achieve precisely the effect I would want. That laser now looks absolutely massive, as well it should.

Loving it.

Cmon Fish... You can be more constructive rather throwing random questions...

End of conv. Stay ontopic

I remember some older post of Monroville that he suggested some emperor's throne room designs.

Bringing this to on schedule again, throne room maybe nees some redesing without making confusion to the interior, or relocate it to be less "look i am up here shoot me down"

We see it as establishing shot only once. The second time we see Death star's gun before vader enters to room.

Can the room be into or near the disk to have a more powerful view of the battle ( taking Robot Chicken's quote that the seat looks to absolute nothing) and fill some of the poor background?

I don't mean to make this about me...although I had a question...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rHxbhpMowpk&feature=channel_page

Regardless of whether you liked the execution of the video, do you think something along these lines might help improve the movie?

I mean, does anyone agree that it's weird just having Liea pop up in the Ewok village all dressed up in a different outfit with no explination?

I guess what really bugs me is that there is not enough interaction between the the three main characters. Like, how about something like, "Liea! How did you get here?" "Liea! That hair style makes you look old!" ;)

So again, would something like watching Liea go into the village help smooth the transition to Ewok Village Outfit Liea?  ;)

I suggested putting the tower in the center of the main gun; even if you didn't change the tower design, it would help explain why the Emperor's tower is sitting on top of essentially an exhaust port to a reactor with an open top.  Also made the suggestion that either the Emperor derives some power (or high) from technology or in some strange way the DS laser is partly powered by his attachment to the DSOF.

I still think it would be cool to have the Emperor be the one to take out (or help take out) the DS reactor - as in, when the Falcon shoots, it can't quite get through the inner reactor shield.  When Darth throws the Emperor down, you could play off of the end of TRON and show the Emperor's body falling into the reactor, causing the shield to come down or start to destroy part of the reactor, which would then chain react into bigger explosions, until finally you show the reactor topple over and explode.

This would in turn give the Falcon the needed time to escape (can't show the reactor topple, fall and then explode behind them, as the whole DS would go up instantly, destroying everthing around and inside it, including the Falcon).

re: Leia and the Ewoks:
don't know if that would be too much of a problem (other than the lack of comments from Luke and Co.), being that if she's been missing for some time, that allows her the time to change hairstyles and clothing.  It is only if she looks one way one minute and then completely different within a minute or two.

You know, just for "s and gs", someone should make a short prequel edit where people are conversing with Padme and everytime the camera cuts back to her, she is in a different get-up (hell, even take clips from other Natalie Portman movies - you could have Hayden speaking to her and cut to a scene from LEON, goes back to him, scene from V, etc).

Well it seemed to work perfectly well that way in Return of the Jedi. You seem to be suggesting that the destruction of the reactor would cause an instantaneous vapourisation of the entire Death Star. Why would that happen?

I think the way it's depicted in Jedi, with the chain reaction explosion spreading outwards, is completely believable. That's how it works in Star Wars, as well, remember.

There's nothing to suggest that the Death Star should instantly blow up. The drama doesn't support it, the facts presented in the movie don't support it and physics don't support it.

But if that's what you'd have in your edit, great.

Thanks for the feedback guys!

Yeah, I agree with you, Monroville. Yeah the timeline would have to make it seem like some time has past. You don't want her dressed in one outfit and then one mintue later in a completely different outfit...

Nice, Angel...  ;)

I'd have to agree with Darth Venal about the emperor and the death star. I've always like how anti-climatic a death it is...dust in the wind, if you will.  ;)

(sigh)

Because explosions are pretty instantaneous.  Haven't you seen Mythbusters?  Regardless, that was a ROTJ Wishlist item thought up to possibly explain how the Falcon could have the time to escape the DS2 even in a semi-realistic fashion, as short of the DS2 being made out of flammable material or the Emperor putting gasoline over everything to torch his bad investment and get the insurance money, the only thing blowing the DS up is the reactor...which we see blow up behind the Falcon... while they're still inside the DS2.

I enjoy this idea - have you mentioned it in the "worst edit ideas" thread yet?

Of course, you could argue that Lucas already did this in TPM :-)
