I had Artoo use the bunker computer to program the Imperial gun turrets to shoot down their own ships (so no new footage other than models necessary) but I'm sure there are ways around it.

Clearing all that forest would allow for AT-AT stomping throught the stumps and ash footage without the perceived getting stuck between trees problem too, also perhaps some real Ewok carnage along the lines of the Lars Homestead massacre:

oh my goodness, angel you have truly surpassed youreslf with these! (and that is saying something!) would you consider tinting the specific scenes to fit in with the colouration of the time of day.

i think you, darth venal, ady and everyone else who produces theses lovely mattes should consider putting a widescreen desktop wallpaper pack together? autonomous star wars loacales etc.:)

where is the original photo from btw?

u kick ass man! on both photos

Voice actor call...

can anyone mimick Ewokese?

If we could get a few audio samples of Ewokese serious talking, or battle cries, and dying sounds, and screams of rage that don't sound too cute, that could add a lot to the battle scenes and the ewok's talking to the heroes.

Not replace all the Ewokese in the movie, just add some here and there.

Here's a few ideas for small ideas for ROTJ:

-Have some body parts fly off when Luke's lightsabre hits people on Jabba's sail barge

-Maybe some stragglers jump off before it explodes

-Jawas with the Banthas in the SE shot shot...

-...who come and watch the explosion from a distance.

-the briefing scene should be prequel-ized: darkened, some lights moving etc.

-the Home One hanger looks a little cramped

I agree with the idea of the space battle being closer to the throne room, after all Palpatine tells Luke to watch but he's too far to see anything!

Please don't touch the Tyderium shuttle, its my favorite craft in the movie!

It looks a bit rubbish but get's the idea across.

If someone were to do this properly they would have to make a couple of Ewok skeletons and film them in smoldering ash (this mockup is the skeleton of a suitably small person with the nose shortened and moved up to match the rough position of that on an Ewok mask).

I would imagine Tuskens would be more inkeeping with Banthas than Jawas (perhaps shooting at the barge).

I like the idea of stragglers trying to jump from the barge before it blows but I have no problem with changing the Tydirium with an Imperial transporter.

There are already shuttles aplenty in the film (dropping off Vader and Palpatine) and the Tydirium's cover is delivering parts something more inkeeping with the larger transporter than a shuttle.

Changing it will allow the Rebels to carry more people and equipment.

It would also free up the existing model shots to be reworked into the other shuttle arrival sequences.

Wow, that is my new favorite picture.

Those Endor pics are really, really nice! I wish someone could paint more unusual looking trees to take that Earth edge off the forest views. But those look so much better than the bland shots used in the movie.

This is my Jabba's palace idea with a hangar in the wall, the hi=res version looks a lot better as the ships are quite detailed. Anyone got any ideas what else I can do with the Death Star landing bay?

Venal those are freaking awesome! :)

Loving the hangar bay and the sail barge. Oh and yes - add some TIEs to the second pic and maybe even a Star Destroyer - but that looks really marvellous already.

I'm not hot on the CGI shuttle.  It just doesn't look right.  Something about the nose...

I'd prefer a cleaned up matte painting shuttle, or maybe a different model.  You used the one from the now-deleted SE landing, correct?

I don't know, maybe the Emperor's shuttle is different than Vader's that I posted?  Beats me.

Well, the CG shuttle in Empire SE is definitely different to the model used in Jedi and VERY different to the matte painting shuttles in Jedi. The main problem is that all the matte painting shuttles done for Jedi are completely inaccurate to the model, and the live action mockup used for some shots is even worse. So the Emperor's shuttle being different doesn't bother me, as it's only seen in one scene.

And yes, I did use the Empire SE shuttle, although I had to modify that too to make it somewhat more like the original model, as it also varies a lot. I've also added detail back onto the CG model that was on the matte painting shuttles.

So basically, we need a real physical shuttle model to replace pretty much all the shots with.  Sounds good.

Ady, add that to your build list, next to the full-sized Star Destroyer. ;-)

Loving the garage too:

I would love to see your take on adding some more variety to the barge party, swoops, more skiffs and scooners (for that pirates of the sand look).

Darth Venal, I love your two pics!

The Tatoonie shot is looking good...I like the idea of the opening for the sail barge to emerge...I'm just not sure about using that same shot from AOTC...can't decide...

And the death star/shuttle shot looks great! Although I do see where 005 is coming from...  :D

Your Palace matte looks nice Darth Venal, but the shadows are very inconsistent. The whole desert plain just doesn't fit in.

Is it a picture of a beach, btw? It's like there's little shells/pebbles everywhere, castings long shadows from a morning/evening sun.

The Jabba's Palace matte isn't finished, as I said when I first posted. I'm adding the other side of the canyon on the left, so the plain will be covered and modified. At the moment it's just there to fill the ground. The garage/hangar in the wall is also just an idea, not the final image. These are just mock-ups.

Don't let my comment come across as I don't like your work, Venal.  I love the matte, its a huge improvement!  The only way it could be better is if we got the 501st to pose for a picture.

And Angel, beautiful Endor mattes.  I especially like the sunrise arrival picture.  However, something might have to be done to this matte to help it fit this new approach:

It's not clear where they are headed, what direction that day/night terminator is headed, or why they have to have the DS lower the shield in the first place.

Seriously, I just remembered how much that's always bothered me.  Why do they have to lower the shield to land and spend at least a day approaching the shield generator?  Does the shield spread out around the ground so that you can't dive bomb the generator or do exactly what the Rebels try to do?  What do the Ewoks think that are trapped on the other side of the shield?

Though Jabba himself (and the higher members of his court) would eat well, it might be nice to add a vaporator farm to supply water and small crops for the underlings in the palace (a bit like a medieval castle vegetable garden).

Hey Darth Venal, love these pics but just got a few things ive noticed, the Palace pic, the sand by the palace is lighter than the rest so maybe if you changed one or the other to the same colour to keep it all the same.

In this pic which i also love its the small matter of the reflections of the shield lights. at that angle i would of thought the reflection would of been more of a 45 degree angle.

I would personally bring the nose of the shuttle up other wise the emporer will hit his head lol. Wouldn't mind seeing some kind of transport ships for the empire just left of the hanger, maybe a modified ship from AOTC? Take out the colour and now ive got an idea lmao

The sand by the palace, or rock as it is, is supposed to be different. When I painted it originally it was all the colour and there is absolutely no depth in it. And I'm not sure in an area this big all the rock and sand would be the same colour.

About the shield lights, they wouldn't be at 45 degrees. Why should they? Ones position to the reflection is irrelevant to the direction of it. The angle of the surface the reflection is in determines its relation to the original light source. Besides, that reflection is in the original matte painting and it's in the right place.

I don't think I'll be adding any more ships to the shot, either. It's very busy already, and I tried putting the TIEs back in outside and it was too much. I also tried one Star Destroyer, which looked okay, but it doesn't need it.

Okay here's another version, a bit busier. Probably too busy, but there you go.

It reminds me of some of the original design paintings which had lots more vehicles including two sail barges going to the party.

I wish someone could post those, it really did look more like those old pirate movies but with a Star Wars twist.

That particular mockup is a bit too busy but in a sequence with models you can compose a scene with almost the same number of elements without crowding the screen.
