Hey ben! I've just watched the video.

First the nitpicky stuff:

Well, there is obviously some work to do sound-wise. Especially in the last part the voices are a bit low and not too well blended with the new background sounds and musical score.

The colors are overall much of an improvement, but seem to be - as previously said - a bit washed out. But overall I really like the style you want to achieve with this, it does it job, just could use some little tweaks.

The good stuff:

I REALLY liked the video. It lacks technically a little, but it's obviously still a work in progress... So overall it's good stuff. The scene in which Padme confesses her love to Anakin is an improvement upon the original and the new music works much better.

When they ride into the arena the new music and editing seemed to add a new tension that was lacking from the original and added some new weight to the scene.

Consensus:

Great concept, great execution! Good job, bro. Altogether I'd rather get rid of the whole scene but that's virtually impossible... But you improved A LOT on it and I might even start to like it now ... :p

thanks for the feedback! the edit turned into one of those 4AM 8hour edit-thons that wilhopefully benefit from some fresh eyes this morning. the colours i admit are far more washed out than appeared yesterday, and will be fixed. i think im going to have to tailor each shot a bit more as oppose to using my uber-photoshop filter on the whole scene. the only variation is when they first leave the cave.

i initially made two colour sets, inside and outside. outsdie was far more coloured, and inside i wanted to have the outside appearing overly bright, thus desaturated. the exit now fades from desaturated-saturated as if their eyes are now adjusting.

sounds an issue. def needs work. i dont suppose anyone noticed but i shifted anakins pitch down quite alot so it at least appears that he is a man who can carry off darth vaders voice.

ill correct it for the second half, and will hopefully have jabba back too.;)

As a proof of concept it works very well, sure all the other colours are shifted out but that wasn't the point of the exercise.

I'm really beginning to enthuse about the idea of blue for Jedi, red for Sith and green for Luke in ROTJ.

I know it doesn't appeal to everyone but it's sits well with me.

Something as simple as a colour acting as a metaphor of rebirth, love it.

ben_danger,

Nice videos!

I like your use of the opening/establishing shot...I noticed that you did the same on the last version...I don't remember why I didn't steal that idea! ;)

The colors are cool...yeah, I thought of LOTR too...kind of dream like...

Enjoyed the different pieces of music you used...especially when the monsters started attacking.

Why did you flip the "I have a bad feeling about this." shot? It should be fine the way it was as far as screen direction is concerned.

Godzilla...? Nice! ;)

And the lightsabers are cool...not sure how I feel about only blue but it's still fun to see!

Favorite edit in the saber video: I like using just the line "You call this a diplamatic solution?"...no response from Padme works much better.

Overall great stuff!

I wasn't too sure about the whole only blue sabers concept (I liked the theory, but didn't think it would look good in practice). Your clip convinced me though, it doesn't look bad at all!

It actually looks better, more unified. It also helps the Jedi look more single minded.

The contrast with Luke in ROTJ... it's perfect.

Go for it!

Ace videos BenDanger

I faved and rated them, but for some reason I was unable to add comments (it's YouTube's fault, not yours)

So here they are - The first video is a nice little edit and I loved how you lowered Hayden's voice. The colour correction is a step in the right direction too. The sounds, though looped sound great :)

And the blue sabers vid is also great, though I feel that there should be some yellow ones too, since it is the Old Republic.

thanks for the feedback everyone!:D sounds silly, but knowing people watch them makes it worthwhile if you know what i mean.

Darth Chronus in regards to the yellow sabers, is that an EU thing or a personal preferance?

Looks like you've caught me out - I'm probably one of the few people on here who loves a lot of what the EU has to offer to the SW universe (especially the videogames - like Knights of the Old Republic). But I must say that it's both personal preference and a EU thing. By having a few yellow sabers it keeps it in the timeline of the Old Republic - I can see why you want Luke to be the first of the Jedi who uses a green blade for the return of the Jedi in the New Republic.

I actually would like to believe that when you construct your first light saber you can have "Any Colour You Like" Pink Floyd FTW. Why cant we have some orange and pink ones in the mix too. After all the saber colour shouldn't have to be symbolic. I think the jedi should say Hey I like this colour. If my favorite colour was purple I would have a purple saber. If you wanted it to be symbolic it could go as follows.

Younglings (white)

Apprentices (Any colour but Blue Green and Red)

Knights (Blue, Green)

Masters (Unlimited Colour Well Except red)

Sith (RED RED RED RED)

Badasses (Purple LOL)

Lets add some more colours yall. Savor the rainbow. Even different hues of each colour.

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

Please, no.  If we must have any color besides blue and red, make it green - but even that I'm not a fan of.  I'd much prefer all blue until Luke in ROTJ, symbolizing that Luke has found the "middle way" (to bring a bit of a Buddhist mentality to this) between "pure" light side, which is too restrictive, and "pure" dark side, which is too corrupt, thus heralding a new age of Jedi not bound to highly restrictive dogma the way the Jedi of the Old Republic had been.

But then again, I wouldn't mind certain Jedi masters having green (Qui-Gon, Yoda [if he must be seen with a lightsaber, which I'm also very much against], Windu, etc.), just as long as there's no fucking purple, yellow, orange, pink, or any of that shit.  I could deal with white for trainees, though.

I did like the idea that worked until AOTC which was blue = apprentice, green = master and red = Sith. White = training fits, and I personally don't mind Windu's purple sabre, especially when Dooku has a gold one in MagnoliaFan's AOTC, because they denote Windu's near-darkside fighting style (purple = red + blue) and Dooku's ambiguous character (yellow = red + green).

All-blue until ROTJ also works, but my preference is for six colours:

White = training.

Blue = Knight.

Green = Master.

Red = Sith.

Yellow = ambiguous or maverick characters, such as Dooku and potentially Qui-Gon.

Purple = badasses (Windu) — especially works if Windu is also portrayed as a maverick and/or overly suspicious of Anakin (someone raised a parallel to Snape in Harry Potter). The only other character I think could pull off a purple one is the Emperor (if he should have one at all); that means that we get a purple-on-purple duel and it could mean purple comes across as a "boss" colour but it reinforces the "not so different" aspect.

Very nice! I especially like that those HORRIBLE sounds the creatures make, especially that green one with the long legs, are gone! I'm sure Mr. Burtt would hate it, but I don't care even slightly. ;) So many of his prequel sound effects (and also in the new Star Trek movie) make me want to slap him upside the head...

I know I sound like a broken record, but for me, the sound effects, especially the warble effects, bug me more than anything else in the PT, even Jar Jar. >:-(

Mace Windu Needs some help also. Now he deserves the purple saber

my thinking for the super washed out, is to make the film a little more classic, like the old shots in LOTR. hopefully the music helps.

Anakin barely speaks a word So therefore ITS PERFECT

Saber colours in the filmsseemed pretty self explanatory up to and including TPM.

Blue = Padawan/Knight

Green = Master

Red = Sith

I would think Luke's green saber doesn't count, since he had to work with what he had.

Then AOTC came along with Windu's purple. Now since he seems to be the leader of the Jedi Council, yo could say that's why he had that colour. Still, there was rather an equal ratio of blue and green in the arena battle, which seemed to say there were as many masters as knights, which makes no sense.

Then bloody ROTS happened. Now it's completely random whether someone has a blue or green, half the people on the council have blue, half have green. Well done with that Lucas.

So something needs to be done. Everyone having blue will make for a real "holy ****!" moment in ROTJ:R when Luke lights up his green saber, which would be cool, but three films of nothing but blue sabers everywhere with a couple of reds would be a bit monotonous. Have some kind of a system at least, so that the colours are given meaning.

Possibility 1:

Everyone has blue.

Possibility 2:

Everyone on the council has green, as does Qui-Gon, everyone else has blue. Windu has green like the rest.

Possilibity 3:

Everyone has blue, except for Windu, Yoda (if his saber is seen at all) and Dooku, who have either green or purple, and they are set up as the three leaders of the council.

Possilibilty 4:

Kept the same. This is the idiotic option.

Possilibty 5:

Everyone has blue, except for Windu and Dooku, who have purple/green, Windu's role is redone to be that of a borderline renegade, Dooku is redone to be a full blown renegade. This has been done before, and it worked well.

For me, I don't want to lose all the green sabers, particularly Qui-Gon's saber, as I felt it designated him as the master, by having a different saber. However, if everyone on the council has a green saber, since they have to be a master, and to prevent colours being random, you'd have to have Obi-Wan in ROTS with a green, when in ANH, his saber, the same one he has in ROTS, is blue. So really, thanks a bunch for the big mess, George, was it really that hard to keep things organised?

I guess the best way to go is number three for me, even if it means losing Qui-Gon's green. Actually, come to think of it, with option 5, you could give Qui-Gon a green along with Dooku and Windu, since he's already borderline renegade with all his defying the council stuff.

What a mess.

I don't really care what colors they are in the PT, to be honest. The only one that bugs me is the purple one because Samuel Jackson got special treatment)

 To be honest ive spoken before regarding lightsaber colour, the purple lightsaber never really bothered too me. If anything though sam shud of had blue. Blue lightsabers throughout 5 films would be just horrible for one reason, blue everywhere. Clones have blue laser bolts i believe? droidekas have blue shields, there blue shields on ships, then blue lightsabers everywhere. God it would be too much, lucas keepin with just blue and green was gd move. My opinion blue and green for all jedi including Mace. Luke having a green lightsaber in ROTJ was enough to show look!!! luke has new saber!!

Lightsaber colour reflects the jedi personality and choice. So blue and green people, blue and green. No yellow, orange, magenta, violet, pink etc etc etc
