If the audio on the initial release is as crap as you say it is, whilst I thought it was the best I have heard through my basic system, I cannot wait to get the new AC3 file added to the copy I have.

Of course, the downside is that I will have to watch TPM again afterwards..........

Ditto.

Trust me. When you hear the sound from the Japanese Phantom Menace LD in all it's glory (without the dynamic compression) you will be amazed. It is quite simply the best sound I have ever heard from an ac3 track.

yes his is better. I would have assumed that all the laserdisc pressings were the same, which is why i didn't bother to see if i could borrow his in the first place. We both purchased our copies off ebay. There is another difference too. On his he has a dolby digital video before the movie starts whereas mine goes from the fox opening directly to the movie. No dolby digital vid at all. very strange indeed

But the sound is so much better than my disc and now at least i won't have to work with all the filters in vegas to try and eliminate the DRC from the original recording.

WOW. It sounds like yours is a bootleg. I didn't even know they existed.

This is a fascinating discovery.

Bootleg laserdiscs did exist, but they were extremely rare. I've heard of unauthorized releases of Titanic, Jurassic Park and Lady and the Tramp that were available in Singapore or China, but I've never heard of the existence of a bootleg LD of TPM.

Ady did you check the mint marks? The official disc should be manufactured by Pioneer Japan.

I'm waiting to download it LOL

Curious if the proper LD is also missing frames at the side changes. Will you have to decode the individual channel WAV's as before?

-edit-

Ooops, I type too slow.  Guess you won't know the answer to that one yet.  Keep us posted

However, in practice you must take into account the “fuckwit factor”. Just talk to Darth Mallwalker…

I'll look forward to this too.  I saw the project posted on newsgroups, when I went to download ANHR.

Do you know before I read this thread I thought most fanedits added certain scenes to EP1 as standard, as I hadn't seen them in the cinema?  And I thought I'd just overlooked them when I thought I hadn't seen the extra bits in the podrace scenes, or Anakin's robotic hand hold Padme's, in the cinema.

I swear Darth Maul's body wasn't seen falling down in two halves though, when I saw the film, but maybe that is my faulty memory.  To be honest I bought my prequel DVDs relatively recently just to watch fanedits - when I learned of their existence - and have never actually watched them.

Your memory is perfectly intact. A small quantity of reels of Phantom Menace where Maul isn't cut in half went out in some areas of the USA (which is where I assume you are). It was an early cut of the film, made incase Maul's bisection garnered a higher rating (which in the end it didn't).

I almost don't dare to ask, but is there already the v.2 out yet?

Is there someone who will upload it on a free hoster when it's out?

It's very important to me, because I really want to have this color corrected version so I can use it for my edit, and of course to enjoy watching it^^

So what i will do is just post the new AC3 with instructions on how to replace it with the audio on the DVD. It's not going to be until at least next week through because i don't have the time at the moment to do it.

It's been delayed. I'm too busy with some Fx shots for ESB:R. I want to get these ones all finished while the ideas are still fresh in my mind, then i'l get to ripping the audio.

Great news, that is fine, just thought I might have missed it is all, still have not even unrarred it from the newsgroups.

Dammit Adywan.

I have such a nice organized DVD shelf. I have the GOUT and the SE for all the OT (except Star Wars, where I have ANH:R). I have the normal DVD and a fan-edit of each PT film, and they're all in nice, double DVD cases. It looks very clean.

Now I need to find a triple DVD case to hold this excellent piece of work (Isolated scores kick ass!). Where the hell can I find one of those!?!  Thanks for another fine edit, and for ruining my DVD shelf.

If you're using single width DVD cases like the films came in, then Amaray do a double tray to turn these into triple cases:

OK is the audio that is on this DVD right now really that bad? I really want to watch this but NOT if it is really noticeable on high end audio setup, plus I want to give the thread a bump so it is not forgotten.

I thought it sounded better than the official DVD, but it seems that may have been due to a placebo effect of sorts.  I haven't tried A/B'ing the official DVD and Ady's, though.

Just a quick update. I'm having a few problems ripping side 2 of the laserdisc for the replacement audio. Looks like my laserdisc player might be on the way out. it keeps spitting out the disc. it plays fine on my mates though so i might see if i can borrow his for a day or two. with any luck the new audio tracks should be showing up soon and there may eb a away to replace the audio in the DVd without having to lose any of the menus, subs etc.
