Lucasfilm is releasing another bare bones 4 episode clone wars dvd instead of a full season set.

Don't give these people your money until they release a full set with bonus features otherwise you are enabling them to make quick cash grabs like this which are an insult possible.

Never mind they are 1:78:1 and cropped travesties.  I have heard rumors they are saving the 2:35:1 version for blu ray.

I won't support or buy into blu ray at the moment because i don't have and cannot afford an HDTV or blu ray player.  They either release the proper screen aspect on the dvd, they showed in the UK oin SKY HD or no sale.

Looks like i will be buying my nephew the full first season of the original broadcast version of transformers until Lucas and warners get their act together.  And the set better not be more than 50 bucks. or 39.99.  If it is like a hundred dollars like people are saying i hope the warehouses and the landfills are full of the garbage.

1) Does anyone actually care about the new show anyway?  I was under the impression it was worse than the prequels.

2) A full season set is coming out toward the end of the year.  It's been confirmed, but no other details have been released, so I have no idea which AR (1.78 or 2.39) they're using for the full season set.

I like the new show.

This format is a common format for Cartoon Network shows. The Justice League shows all did the same thing, bare-bones episode disks, followed later by the whole season.

I think kids enjoy the series, so I really don't have a problem with them.  I personally tried watching them once on Cartoon Network, and thought it was unwatchable after 5 minutes.

In saying that, it is a cartoon, and Lucas has never really targeted it towards the older SW crowd, so thats cool with me.  What gets me mad about the PT is that it is marketed to the older SW crowd, and then you have characters like Jar Jar in the movie, who is clearly targeted towards kids.  The Clone Wars Movie/TV Show is clearly for kids, so I never really cared about it, nor do I watch it now.

I thought that was the whole point the prequels were for a different generation but had to ride the coatails of nostalgia to at least get the oot fans to bring their children to see the movies.

I mean come on guys everyone grew up and away from star wars being in their thrities or forties.  Trying to relive our childhoods and deny kids theirs is a bit extreme.

That does not excuse Lucas however from not making the new trilogy more all age friendly like the originals.

But he the fact he failed to recapture the magic of the original series will always leave fans the impression they have a right to condemn Lucas as a person and human being.

So the films sucked.  So we still have the original movies if albeit in 1993 laserdisc quality.  And that is the real issue fans hate the special editions and the prequels to no end.  Because Lucas buried and destroyed their beloved holy trilogy.  Said with a grain of salt and sarcasm a-plenty.

The shit quality of the gout does not allow me to recommend those dvd's to anyone much less purchase for my nephew who loves star wars.  I refuse to spend money on what a young kid would see as unwatchable quality after watching the restored 2004 set.  I call the gout the offcial Lucas bootleg because that is in fact what it is in terms of quality.

In a consumer based society you would think the originals being non restored and non anamorphic would prevent them from selling well.  You would think it would be a case of no restoration=no sale.  But not enough people have HDTV's or 16:9 televisions to warrant them wasting money on what Lucas considers to be inferior and surpassed rough drafts of the movies.  A new high definition scan would cost millions of dollars if done to the standard people want of frame by frame restoration in 4k, and 6k for the vistavision opticals. He never paid for the restoration of the 1997 versions supposedly fox spent 20 million dollars to restore them, and Lucas got back the rights to the original star wars and they in tern got the lucritive distribution rights to the prequel trilogy. And First Refusal on all new star wars films.  It in no wonder they turned down Clone Wars and Lucas took it to warners who screwed him over on THX 1138 in his own words.

Wow, even the new loyal fan base is getting dumped on. Seems like being a fan of Star Wars, regardless of what generation, is like making a deal with the Empire that just continues to get worse and worse all the time.

From the few episodes that I've seen (apart from that god-f**king-awful "Clone Wars" movie....), the series is pretty decent and several of the episodes that focus off of the main characters (the Clonetroopers, Anakin's appretice teamed with that female Jedi, Kit Fisto hunting Grevious) are very good. I think the two biggest problem that the series is that:

1. By it's nature, it has to maintain the terrible plotpoints that were introduced in EP2 (Anakin/Padme secret marriage, etc) and many of the Jedi characters that we meet in the show is ultimately meaningless since they will all die before/during EP3.

2. This show still doesn't hold a flippin candle to the excellence of Genndy Tartakovsky's "Clone Wars" miniseries.

I don't necessarily see how DVD singles are in any way screwing anybody over.  Maybe in the past, but most people are savvy enough now to realize that a boxset will be on the way.  As far as I see, singles are for budget-minded consumers who might prefer to get a few specific episodes without having to commit to an entire season.  Makes sense to me.  As long as you're not dumb enough to buy them (assuming you want the entire set) then what's the problem?

Yeah if lucas is vader.

Lando:   That was never a condition of our agreement, nor was giving han to this bounty hunter!

VADER:  You think you are being treated unfairly

Lando: NO.

VADER: Good.  It would be unfortunate to leave a permanent garrison here.

Vader later on:  Take the princess and the wookiee to my ship.

Lando: You said you would leave them here under my supervision

Vader:  I am altering the deal.  Pray i don't alter it any further.

Lando walking off talking to himself:  THIS deal is getting worse all the time!

lol

The problem is you want the boxset now and don't want to wait a frackin year for its release while they only give you ripoff prices on selected out of order episodes in the wrong aspect ratio with no bonus features.

Hardly surprising Lucasfilm has not given fans what they wanted since the thx laserdisc program days.

No restored original trilogy.  No star wars blu rays even of the 2004 set.  Nothing Lucas does surprises me any more.

Just wait for the indiana jones trilogy special editions on blu ray with all the new added cgi he will probably insert in a sneaky way like that 1 shot in raiders from the HD broadcast.  It would be awesome if the south park people where right about that.  Not for the movies being ruined but because the free hat episode would be even more relevent.

To be honest, the official LFL dvd's are the best quality of the originals out there. I know that's not saying much but I'd certainly recommend them to anybody who wants to replace their vhs tapes or even laserdiscs. Especially with the new boxset that has both versions and sells for $30 on amazon.

Are the originals selling well? I think that's actually a good thing. I mean if people are buying them now, imagine how many people would pay good money for a proper release.

I literally LOL'd. =P As for these 4 episode releases, can't stand 'em. I was listening to a Q&A with a couple of the writers for the show and one of them mentioned that the episodes on the boxset are going to be a little different than the ones that aired. I took that to mean we'll be seeing the true aspect ratio but who knows it might even mean extended ones. Just as long as it's not another one of Lucas' stupid "Let's edit a few episodes together and turn them into movies!" crap. I hated that on the Droids and Ewoks dvd releases but the CW movie was just bad. Why couldn't they have used the malevolence trilogy for that?

Oh, geez, really?!  Even in television they can't resist the urge to fuck with what they've already done?!  Can anybody in Lucasfilm not tinker with their work?!

Well its not exactly unrecedented for them to go back and reanimate scenes for dvd that were rushed.  It is done in anime dvd releases all the time.

When dealing with animated cgi it could be re-rendering or adding more elements explosions etc.  Make directors cuts of episodes that were shortened for time on dvd due to advertising or content.

Some of the earlier episodes and the movie could be entirely redone they were done in a lower quality than the rest of the season once the animators got their feet wet and figured things out.  The characters started out like clay or wooden in their movements, over time they have tried to make improvements.

Almost unheard of at lucasfilm these days.  They made the animation of a higher standard after complaints and tried to make the later scripts more solid, or truer to the spirit of the original films.  It is no secret filoni is a massive fan of the originals.  I bet you anything he would be just as happy to do an animated series featuring Luke, Han, and Leia.  But he must do what his boss wants.

I think they almost made the Genddy series movie like by taking out the mojority of the recaps.

I know because i have the second dvd release of the genddy series and a fan preservation and the fan one has the original opening and closing segments and previews for the next episodes.

the problem with the series i think is there is no bad guy to actually kill
there is grievous who we all know is killed by obi then ventress who is
a character who's end is "described in the EUwho COULD be killed but
filoni "respects" the EU so thats a no-go but we have Bad Brain (Cad Bane)
who has no connection to the EU (yet) or the other movies sohe can be killed

SOL, I guess.

Don't take this the wrong way, but I hope LFL doesn't release a damn thing on DVD again.  Puts us that much closer to a proper Blu-ray release of the OOT.

Lucasfilm is not so stupid as to make a release on a niche format that not everyone has in their homes blu ray, when the vast majority have DVD.  They would lose money.  They have no stake in helping SONY and the other corporations invested in Blu RAY.

That would be as stupid as releasing a film only on laserdisc, but not on vhs back in the day.

Almost all my family and friends except maybe 1 or 2 people, have standard def and dvd.

I only know one person who has a blu ray player.

I know these days Lucasfilm is not like they were back in the day when star wars was available on vhs, laserdisc, betamax, CED, VHD and so on.

If Lucas was all about getting his feet wet with the new formats and desperate to make money the trilogy of star wars would have been on dvd many years earlier.

Lucas being the person who claims they made no money on star wars on vhs and that they only sold 400,000 copies versus the millions E.T. sold.  This after star wars was re-released already several times and on pay cable like HBO.  I mean unbelievable star wars may have had the greatest repeat business ever in the cinemas.  They made a shit load of money.  He acts like they lost money and that is why no one likes the originals.

Then again this is coming from the same guy who allegedly said jedi never turned a profit to david prowse of all people, lol.

Exactly. And if SW never made any money on VHS, how come so many different versions (letterbox etc.) were released?

They may not have a stake in Sony, but Blu-ray is moving out of niche status.  Lucas may or may not realize it, but I believe he could alter Blu-ray player sales if he released Star Wars in that format. Regardless of version preference, we're talking about an incredibly popular film franchise.

I was a Blu-ray hold-out also, until the right film came along. Once it was announced that Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull would be a Blu-ray release, I reworked a spare bedroom into a proper theater room, complete with a Blu-ray player.

I imagine there would be a similar reaction if Star Wars was released on Blu-ray. Truthfully, if Indiana Jones hadn't been available on Blu-ray, but Star Wars suddenly was, I would have made the jump with it - and I'm only interested in one version of one of the films.  Considering the size of the fan base, I think people would make the switch if Lucas went Blu-ray.

Sorry but wasn't the general consensus of Krystal Skull a horrible movie? If you liked it that's fine, but you thought it was good enough to make the switch to HD and turn a room into a theater room?
