And I suppose while we're at it, we might as well delete any dialogue in the OT that might contradict the PT. For instance, virtually anything Obi-Wan says about Luke's pa, and Obi-Wan's instruction to Luke on Hoth to seek out Yoda ("the Jedi master who instructed me"), and Obi-Wan's interaction with Yoda inside Yoda's hut, and Obi's claim that Anakin "wanted you [Luke] to have this when you were old enough," and the dialogue between Luke and Leia on Endor in which Leia claims to remember her mother, and countless other bits and pieces of OT canon that just doesn't jive with established PT dogma. Right? After all, consistency is more important than quality.

No. Except the one about Leia remembering her mother. Luke asking if she remembers her mother could just be removed. The others can be explained... Yoda probably DID train Obi-Wan before Qui Gon took him on as a padawan. And about the lightsaber thing, Obi-Wan could have assumed Anakin would have wanted his son to have his lightsaber, if that makes any sense.

first of all, obi-wan had been bending the truth about luke's father. second of all, leia had connected to her mother through the force once she was born. she was born with the jedi blood in her. That's why she can remember images and feelings. I read it in a star wars saga book i recently bought.

last, obi-wan did have teachings with yoda, even as an adult. plus, padawans have been passed on from master to master.

I didn't know what other thread I could mention this in, so I'm doing it here...

I did a little comparison video of the Teddy-Bear picnic of ROTJ GOUT and SE.

When I was doing a video of the opening & closing credits of ROTJ (coming soon), I finally decided to rip some footage from the GOUT DVD of Sebastian Shaw's Jedi ghost to use over that Hayden fella. That's when I finally noticed the truck-load of differences between the GOUT, and the SE versions.

Isn't 'Jedi Rocks' that god awful SE musical number that replaces 'Lapti Nek' in Jabba's palace?

Author

i thought it was funny and fit the enviorment well

Just to be clear, when I said 'Ewok Rocks', I was referring to the SE ewok celebration music.

...although Ewoks singing 'Jedi Rocks' would be pretty funny :)

God please no. I thought Lapti Nek was annoying but Jedi Rocks ugggggg. I nearly died from that what the buck moment. Way to go George, You made an already cutesy movie gay. That is one of those moments were I wanted to snap that dvd in half.

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

I thought "Jedi Rocks" was more in-your-face than Lapti Nek (which was the whole idea, GL thought "a big musical number would be funny in the middle of a Star Wars film"), but I didn't think it was any worse. I figured if you're going to do it, there's no point doing it by halves. There were a couple of OTT "MTV-type" shots which deserved to be excised, and Boba Fett didn't need any more exposure, but other than that I was fairly neutral on those changes. The CG singer was no worse than the puppet equivalent (one reason the "big musical number" wasn't in the 1983 version was problems with the puppets) — both were fairly ordinary.

The problem is Jabba is meant to be the Star Wars version of the sort of character Frank Thring and Charles Laughton once cornered (Scheherazadian debanched obese royal grotesques) crossed with the sort of mafioso that Brando's Corleone was a caricature of.

The funk, disco dance routine just doesn't fit into that environment which is why I suggested the exaggerated alien burlesque dance some pages back (pg 87 to be precise).

If you replace the song and have the band as a backing for exotic dancers (like Oola) it fits better in the scene than a sudden reminder of 1983 (with funky puppets) or 1997 (with CGI cartoon characters).

The music should do for belly dancing what the Cantina group did for the Tommy Dorsey sound.

Yes an instrumental. But how to take that biglipped singer out of the center? who knows. I guess more OOLA. Ady could have the cantina guys playing with the max reebo band. It would be like a tattooine download festival.

It might be possible to digitally remove the offending elements (either puppet or CGI) Angel has managed it on some mockups and I manage to do it on a few too (it's no easy task).

If that fails building models and set segments are possibly the only other way.

Clearing the slate is one thing but then you have to decide on what to replace the elements with, my preference is more dancers like Oola and possibly a few more courtiers.

It will definantly be interesting to see what Adywan does with this scene. I can't imagine that he likes it the way it is.

Yes, you might be able to remove some objects from the film...but what do you add and how?

It's been a while but I think the original Sy Snoodles with new facial/body movments could work better than the CGI Sy that we have now.

I *think* I like the idea of the burlesque show thing...it definantly depends on how it's handled...

I've wanted to make an edit with some sort of strip-show/dance, but I haven't really found any footage that's usable (footage wise, and content-wise).

Anyone got suggestions on something naughty, yet clean enough to be used in Jedi?
