its just a grill man..

Before SE you shouldnt see the grill or the barbeque or whatever

Not really is wise to show boba's craft in the previous shot. Thats the magic of cinema.

is well hidden no need to show and indicate it like the PT :)

Im concern more about the yellow engines and the transparent copckit rather the slave 3

I didn't imply the grill should be shown (in the Bespin shot). Please re-read my post.

Wow ric olie has his own wookieepedia page. LOL. and a small snippet looks like it was written by him

"Olié was a very observant man with a tendency to state his observations, meaning that he was often the one to point out the obvious"

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

So, Ady, what are you currently working on? The Wampa puppet? How's that coming?

Dude  I don't know what you're talking about, if you are referring to the music towards the end of that clip its from the "Lady in the Water" OST by James Newton Howard.

What I meant was I have seen a reedit of the Obi-wan and Anikin saber fight on Mustufar. It made the fight less inevitable and more holy crap its on.

It replaced John Williams with Bear McGradys sound track from nBSG.

The heavy drums and such made it more like, ironically that you might not know how it was going to end.

sketchrob said:

Yeah agreeing it should have been done is one thing, coming up with footage that doesn't exist for the edit is another.

If Ady wants it he could find a way.

That is if Adywan wants it.

Ady is very talented but he's not some kind of magician. He can't create scenes out of nothing. There is no footage to work with for what you're talking about.

Just to sound elated -

'Bring My Shuttle' is a kick-ass example of someone in a tetchy mood.

I've read and re-read the things that are being done with this edit and I noticed this under Bespin -  8. Removing of all the SE shots of Vader's shuttle leaving Bespin and docking with the Executor.

I already know that it's an omission that's been well praised by everyone and I also have to say that they should indeed go. Goes without saying anyway :)

Ok, whilst the SE shots of Vader's shuttle leaving Bespin and docking in (haha the Death Star II) the Executor are indeed history in this edit, has Ady actually said that he may keep that small SE shot of Vader walking on the Bespin platform (whilst editing out the shuttle and changing the sky a bit of course)? I have to admit that for a very small shot it looks cool and is the only time that we see Vader walking in front of a city as well. It hopefully won't do anything to the excellent pace of the original - but I have a weird feeling this has been discussed. I'm far too lazy to scroll through 400 odd pages, lol. So in short, has Ady saved that little snippet for the edit? Thanks.

Why would Vader be walking out on the platform if he just said "bring my shuttle"? To stand out there and wait? I always wondered why Lucas made this change? My theory is to add symmetry between this movie and AOTC. In AOTC we see Count Doofus fly out to Corousant at the end of the move and Lucas has this weird obsession with symmetry in SW that what was done in the PT must mirror what is done in the OT. If this obsession continues I wouldn't be surprised if by his 20th revision, Lucas just has ROTJ be TPM played in reverse.

that's wat makes the film more interesting is having those parallels. i really wished that scene would stay, but its ady's edit. the thing i don't like about the original line is that its a two second shot and that after that we find him on the SSD.

btw, the SE line was "Alert my star destroyer, to prepare for my arrival"

What you call his obssesion with symmetry is something he has explained that in operas you have repeating themes, and he seems to be fond of the idea, which by the way is not specific to Star Wars, Back to The Future also uses this license to point out that history tends to repeat itself, something you can see also in the Terminator Movies (pictures of which I see in your signature).

IMHO I find it interesting to see the repeating themes and parallelisms....

"For over a thousand generations, the Jedi Knights were the guardians of peace and justice in the Old Republic. Before the dark times... before the Empire." - Obi-Wan Kenobi, ANH

"Now the Jedi are all but extinct" - Obi-Wan Kenobi, ANH

"I hate old times" - Batman to John Stewart, A Better World

It's just a bunch of random snapshots that I'm fond of from Terminator 2. The only thing I tried to do is get snapshots that I thought were cool from the beginning to the end of the film and arrange them in sequential order and pick ones that balance in color from left to right . I wanted it to be a lot longer but I had to keep cutting it down from being too small so you could barely see the pictures or it would stretch beyond the monitor.

I understand the themes of paralells, but you shouldn't use them at the expense of storytelling. I feel George Lucas was just using a process of elimination. I feel the only reason why there was a big space battle at the beginning of ROTS is because GL never had one there before. It wasn't about telling a story, it was about flling a void inside his head that he has got to have a big space battle at the beginning of one of his SW films. Same goes for a lot of other things.

Thats why most of  the prequels and sequels fail. they use many parallels and its like to see the first movie through the second.

I dont say that is bad but it has to be done with subtle ways. watch Dark knight for example.

Now GL fell to put all the motos and characteristics of the OT to PT so it has the feeling that is a SW movie :)

Hello there? I have a bad feeling about this etc

Lucas repeated things in the original trilogy not just between the OT and PT. If the prequels had failed this would not have been a reason to cite...I thought you liked the prequels?

Speaking of repeated themes...

Did you guys realize that The Empire Strike Back is the only Star Wars with no Tatooine?

So much for being the planet that is farthest from the bright center of the universe....

Meanwhile, Alderaan gets two cameos... one in ROTS and ANH, with no development to make viewers say "nooooo, please don't destroy THAT planet! So many cool adventures happened there!"

But this is getting off topic.

So, I didn't notice anything about this on the first page, but is there anything that can be done about Yoda while he is on Luke's back during his training? He looks like a backpack with a Yoda head attached to it, especially when Luke stops running to catch a breath.

Though I'm not sure anything can be done to fix that.

Interesting!

I like that he can have some more life or what.

Hmm, maybe if the Taun-Taun sleeping bags go over well, the guys at ThinkGeek.com can make a Yoda backpack, including head!  I think it would sell...

PS: I'm sure Ady will do some tweaking to it, though I'm not sure what he could do other than tone down the "puppet flopping" while Luke runs around...

Some ideas that could be used:

(1) show Yoda's feet do some movement ala he is trying to stay on Luke's back, so in a shot or two show Yoda "scratching" at Luke's back to get a better hold.

(2) definitely tone down the head bouncing back and forth, and/or add some warbling/straining to Yoda's voice to account for the fast, rough movement - try speaking while running full-out and compare that to when Yoda speaks; granted, Yoda isn't doing the running, but he's not going to have an easy time talking when Luke is moving all over the place.

I like that idea. I think that's what bothers me about that shot.

Perhaps some blinking for Yoda's eyes could help sell that he is alive while on Luke's back? I don't know.
