I have never been that into the differences in the audio, but the more and more I read here at OT,it seems there are differences between the mixes and some are definitely better than others,so could some kind soul enlighten me on which audio version is the best for each of the GOUT video’s(ANH,ESB,ROTJ)and why, what makes it different? and are they still available somewhere?

Thanks in advance for the info

The audio mixes on the GOUT DVDs are the same as what's on the '93DefCol/'95Faces LDs, except that the LD sound is superior because it's uncompressed PCM. The GOUT DVDs soundtracks are compressed Dolby Digital. The mix that is used was done especially for the DefCol release- it combined elements of a few previous theatrical soundtracks.

Is that what you meant?

I think there are some preservations in the works here using the GOUT video with the LD PCM audio.

You cannot directly use 2-channel PCM with the GOUT video (for ANH, anyway) as the video's bitrate has peaks that are too high.

You need to either re-encode the video with a lower max bitrate, or re-encode the audio to something like 448kbps AC3.

ah OK,thanks a lot for clearing that up,and here I thought there was some top secret shit out there I did not know about.

are the uncompressed LD audio for all 3 available somewhere? I have the LD's but no longer have my player connected to my PC,it hasn't been for a long time now.

Thanks again for clearing that up for me.

Would that be a noticeable improvement?

What tool would be used to take the PCM laser tracks to 448 dolby?

Any AC3 encoder.

Professional encoder plugins can be found in Sony's AV software (i.e. Vegas/Sound Forge) or Apple's Compressor for the Mac. Aften is a free alternative.
