Thanks Moth3r.   I used G-force's script exactly, no changes, since I've never used Avisynth before.

I followed along using the guide that OldSchoolJedi wrote up.

Not sure about the integrity of the .m2v but can check it this evening after work.

ETA:  The .m2v appeared to be fine as well.   Trying another encode...

Whilst my PC is chugging away doing another encode, I was looking at my HCenc logs from the first go round and saw something that might potentially be the cause of my problems.

I noticed a line that said "Small source mismatch 764 (or whatever number it was) frames"

If the m2v file is fine, you do not need to do another encode!

The problem is occurring at the remuxing stage. The guide suggests using ReJig. I would suggest you try Muxman instead.

How did you get on with the encoding DJ?

Working on Empire....when I try to load the .avs file in HC, I get the following:

"error loading Avisynth script, Script error, there is no function named "Repair" (R:\Demuxed\TESB.avs, line 15)

Anyone know how to get around it?  It will not let me encode...thanks

It looks like a path error.  I see all of the .dll files in the avisynth-plugins directory but for some reason still get the error.

EDIT - I think I fixed it.  Encoding now.  Fingers crossed.

Question,

How long did it take to encode?!?!!?

I ask because I have a dual-core duo with plenty of RAM and after 8 hours, it's only 20% done on pass 1!

Is that right?

Also, in HC, it still says 4:3 and not 16:9.   Am I ok since I used the script on page 1 or was I supposed to change that too?

It's been a while, but I think you have to choose 16:9 in HCenc for the aspect ratio to come out right. I highly recommend encoding a small portion first before attempting a full encode. There's just too many things that can go wrong.

Can someone post these to a torrent site please, I'm not sure how to do this all myself

Oh man, now you tell me I should have chosen 16:9 in HCEnc!  :(

Only 35% done now....after  15 hours!

I really do not want to do it all over again.

I second the request, can someone please upload these versions?  I do not have newsgroup access so would also prefer a torrent site.

It does take a lot of time to figure this out and then hope it works.

Before I can offer anyone anything, does this subtitle formatting/placement look correct for Jedi? I had to hack the subtitle section of the script slightly before the encoder would accept it - don't think I did anything damaging, but would appreciate the confirmation...

The encodings are really sloooooow, be partient.

When I did the encodings, HCenc. selected 16:9 output automatically when I loaded the avisynth file. While the encoder is doing it's work you can see if the encoding is in the right aspect ratio: on the right side of the encoder mask at the top you can read "aspect" and then 16:9 when everything is ok. If you read 4:3 there then something is wrong.

I finished all three movies but for some reason I cannot upload them somewhere, as willingly I would.

After 36 hours, about 70% done but aspect says 4:3.....crap.

Look up "Restream" - I think it should be able to change the aspect ratio in the MPEG2 headers for you, so you will not have to re-encode.

The long encode times are why I went with an uncompressed version of the films first, THEN encoded that.  Too many little things that were occassionally going wrong or I'd forget when trying to do the whole thing in one go.  If you've got the space, I'd highly recommend doing it this way, as it also lets you play around with the MPEG encode without having to re-render the script.  It ALSO would allow someone to render a nice XVID or h264 of the films as well...damn, I wish now I'd saved my uncompressed files...

Tomorrow night I will start rendering all 3 into lossless avi files,I have plenty of room so it is no big deal at all, these can then be used for xvid\x264\dvd encoding, but before I start I want to touch base with a couple of people first,so G-force you have a PM my friend.

I want to get these as perfect as I can so any changes have to be done today\tonight so I can start it all tomorrow night.

I can't believe that's sourced from the GOUT.

I was typing a request for you, Dark Jedi, when I realized it was far too long and would work better as a PM.

So I'm sending you a PM.  :-)

PM sent.

I mentioned it in the message, but I figured I should say something in the open thread as well:

Those samples look fantastic - I'm highly impressed.  I didn't think the GOUT could ever look that good!  Excellent work.

--edit--

Okay, I just A/B'ed the two samples (images, not video).  The first capture is softer, but at first glance appears to have less edge enhancement artifacts.

But upon closer inspection, it seems that both have about the same amount of edge enhancement, it's just that the softer look of the first sample makes them less apparent.

I'd go with the second one.  A little edge enhancement is a hell of a lot better than what we've got to deal with on the official DVDs.

I'm in the process of downloading the video samples right now to compare.
