Anyone play X-Men Origins: Wolverine The Uncaged Edition yet?

Now this game is damn cool, lots of neat moves and full of non stop action.

Whoa! You weren't lying! This game is a pretty fun little button masher. I just played the demo, I wasn't expecting much but was pleasantly surprised. The M rating is great too. I am so used X-Men being a PG-13 sort of thing, it was kind of cool to see Wolverine with incredible amounts of blood dripping off his claws. Gives it a much darker and more realistic tone.

Realistic since it's a ficticious comic book character which is featured in a film? LOL okay.

Damn, I keep forgetting to keep things on a fourth grade level...

I never suggested in the least that the fictional character was in any way realistic. What I suggested was realistic is that when this fictitious character jabs his razor sharp metal claws into someone's body, blood comes gushing out. Just like it would in real life!

Unlike the films, where the claws come out nice and clean and the stabbed individual falls to the ground in a nice little heap. Which is not just like real life.

Had to do a quick google search to discover that you were talking about Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door.

Never played any of the Paper Mario games. Not too big of a fan of the turned based RPG (it is turn based, right?). I really liked Super Mario RPG for the SNES. It was really cool seeing a fleshed out fantasy world in the Mario universe. Even though I don't like turn based RPGs, I still found SMRPG well worth playing. I would have really liked to see a sequel that followed more closely in its footsteps. Paper Mario just didn't do it for me. The visuals were one of the things I found most interesting about SMRPG.

Really annoyed that SMRPG doesn't work with any of the SNES emulators on the DS. If they released an official DS port, I'd definitely buy it.

I had a hard time getting into Paper Mario for that very reason as well, but once I did, I really enjoyed it.  Thousand-Year Door is pretty much the same thing as the first, but it does it so much better that I love it as well.  My biggest complaint with the Paper Mario games is the characters.  Unlike in Mario RPG where your teammates were fleshed and actually characters, like Mallow, who's trying to find his parents, and Geno, who's a heavenly being trying to repair the Star Road, the teammates in the Paper Mario series are just devices.  They exist only to perform a single action, and a lot of those are repeated by carbon copies in the sequel:  Goombario/Goombella=information, Kooper/Koops=shell toss, etc.  They aren't characters.  They just do stuff.  And while I like that from a gameplay perspective, it lacks in the story department.  Also, it seems nearly every sidekick in the first two games are just reformed enemies.  That seems to be a problem with a lot of modern Mario games where they've run out of ideas for characters, so they simply start turning all the bad guys into good guys, unlike Mario RPG that actually created new, unique types of chracters to interact with.  Again, I love the games, but that's my main complaint.  Super Paper Mario alleviated this by having the characters be established Mario characters:  Mario, Peach, Koopa, and Luigi, while relegating the Pixls to gameplay devices, except for Tippi, who actually does have a character.

As for me, I love the Mario & Luigi series, even though I've only played the first (don't have a DS).  It's nice to see Mario and Luigi function as a team and as individual characters, when the modern staple is to have Luigi either absent or functioning separately from Mario.  It reminds me a lot of the old Mario cartoons I grew up with.

I played both games on the PS2, I see no point in buying them again for Wii.

I guess it's good news for those that never had a PS2 but do have a Wii, but I'd rather Square make an original Kingdom Hearts for Wii than just porting the PS2 games. Wii already has enough last gen ports.

Yeah, I guess that is what Nintendo gets for essentially making a last gen console. Imagine a Wii on par with the 360 power wise... now that would be something! Sure, it wouldn't have hit the market at $250, but in the end the value would have been much greater. Resident Evil 5 on the PS3 or 360 with the golld old fashion controller interface, or Resident Evil 5 on the Wii with the option between wiimote targeting or an old fashion controller? It would really be a no brainer, I think I'd take the Wii everytime. Too bad the Wii could only ever dream about running games like RE5.

Just a passing thought, how awesome would Portal be on the Wii?

Honestly, I had no problem controlling Portal on the 360. The Orange Box games all controlled very well for first person console games.

It has nothing to do with problems. Portal plays fantastically with a traditional controller. Just as Resident Evil 4 and Twilight Princess play just fine with a regular controller.

The Wiimote just adds to the fun.

Point. I just wonder if the Wii could handle the physics engine of Portal.

Absolutely not.

I guess I shouldn't say that definitively, because I really don't know all the technical aspect of either Portal or the Wii. But Portal is a pretty heafty game, I really can't imagine the Wii running it as is. But I have no doubt they could water it down enough to make it run.

Even the basic acceleration model, where you can put a Portal on the floor and ceiling and use it to accelerate to ridiculous speeds, might tax the Wii for all I know.

Then again, Smash Bros Brawl is also pretty physics intensive, so perhaps it would work.

So, anybody have thoughts on E3?

Nintendo is going to have to pull something pretty impressive, because even though most of the applications of Natal are stuff we've already seen on Wii, the ones that Wii can't do are pretty tremendous.

Nintendo's showing at E3 wasn't that bad. They announced a new Metroid developed by the Ninja Gaiden team, a sequel to Super Mario Galaxy, both due next year, and a Wii incarnation of New Super Mario Bros with a focus on four-player action.

Miyamoto also confirmed in a round-table that they're working on the next Wii Zelda and that it will have heavy use of Wii Motion Plus.

Has anyone else heard that there is now a Zelda movie? Although completely unofficial and fan made, it's a serious film that recently had the premier in Atlanta and the filmmakers are hoping to bring it to other cities.

here's the trailer:

personally, this is probably one of the few movies I want to see this year. (I did like Gran Torino a lot)

Reminds me of IGN April fools prank for 2008.

There is usually a reason so many video games to film don't make things 100% like the game. I still maintain that while Link looks really cool and heroic in the game, no one in the real world could ever dress like him and look anything short of silly.

I once checked a players guide for the first Zelda game out from the library. It was an unofficial guide, so it didn't use Nintendo's cartoon Link from the manual on the cover. The cover it did have I found incredible intriguing, and that is when I had first wished they would make a Zelda movie. It was just you typical farmboy like character decked out in a simple brown leather mail, curly blond hair, no hat, carrying a sword in one hand and a candle in the other as he decended a spiral dungeon stairway. To me that cover captured the feel of the original Zelda game perfectly.

If a Zelda film adaption is ever to be successful visually, IMHO, it has to ditch the familiar Zelda imagery which just looks goofy in real life, and aim for the essence of the series. Which is ultimately exploration mixed with adventure, not knowing what is around that next corner or through the next door.

I always see the debate online by Microsoft and Sony fanboys that Nintendo Wii is shovelware.

But despite the few games that are a joke and made with very little effort and thinking to be for the wimote, crearly a lot of people own wii's and enjoy them a great deal.

Not enough people have HDTV's and blu ray is still a niche format to make the fact that the system is last generation and not current gen or next gen a big deal.  It is a lot like the gamecube except with a fun remote device that is mostly in my opinion the entire focus of the system and not the games.

It should be not about the controller used but about the games.  Remember some of those awesome games they made back in the super nintendo era?

I think it is about time they are working on their first truly wii Zelda game.  And the next mario game should be done whenever they feel like it.

Galaxy was a blast but new super mario bros as a port would be awesome i must admit for the old school gamer fans.  I enjoyed those old school elements in the paper mario games as well as galaxy.

To those who say the wii is shoveware they forgot that until fairly recently the ps3 was only good for playing blu ray movies and had almost zero games or at least good games.

Me i'm looking forward to Mass Effect 2.  Final Fantasy XIII.

I would have liked a kotor III, desptite Biowares old republic cinemas looking amazing i hate mmo's and prefer stand alone single player rpgs with a story.

I think all three systems have games worth owning.  Its a matter of choice which to own, and a matter of monetary expense.  I don't own anything myself beyond a ps1 and original xbox.  I had a supernes and gameboy, but no longer do.  Gamecube. wii and 360 all belonged to my bro and i never saw a reason to buy them when i could use his.  We owned a ps2 at one point.  The one system i have not played at all is the PS3 way too expensive and i don't have an HDTV.  No one in my family does.

If i had one i would definetely have Metal Gear IV though that game is frickin amazing the cinema scenes almost look like live action.

Oh yeah and i would probably play god of war III when it comes out, if i had a PS3,lol.

Nope.  Just the star wars prequels and indiana jones IV.  I do realize my gripes with Lucash have gotten rather old fast, lol.

Hey i sort of liked the new star trek movie halfway after the fact so i can't be all bad, lol.

Well i also thought Wolverine and Terminator Salvation were absolute shit too.  But it seems the critics agree with me for a change.  Usually i love a film they hate.

Its hard not to feel betrayed and angered as a star wars fan when the only way you can watch your favorite films is in 1993 laserdisc transfers ported over to dvd in non anamorphic without the theatrical audio and bad dnr.  Its a good reason i have held onto my laserdiscs as long as i have.

Before the debacle that was the gout i could forgive much with the special editions and the prequels.  But that was just the last straw.

"Microsoft and Sony fanboys" would mean "Microsoft fanboys" and "Sony fanboys". If I say, "DVD and VHS players" I mean "DVD players" and "VHS players" and am in no way suggesting that there are no DVD players but only "VHS players".

Sky was simply pointing out that both Sony fans and Microsoft fans often call the Wii shovelware, and he was saying it isn't "shovelware", and that it and the other two consoles all have good games on them.

Since you own all three consoles, I would have thought you'd agree with him, and am kind of surprised you reacted the way you did. Just because he suggested that fanboys exist (fanboys: overly obsessive fans who are loyal to their preferred brand to the point of being ridiculous), doesn't mean he was calling everyone who owns that console or considers themselves a fan of it one of them.

As for your question about having all three and if that makes you an "all 3 fanboy" obviously not. By definition fanboys are the type who do nothing but diss the consoles that they do not own. "Oh, you have a Nintendo, that sucks for you, because Nintendo really sucks and has no good games. I have SEGA!!! Sonic is awesome. He runs fast! And he is blue! Is Mario blue? No, didn't think so! He is red. Red is for losers! SEGA rules!" This is a classic example of the SEGA fanboys that plagued my Nintendo loving life as a child. Does this sound like the type of person that would own both a SEGA and a Nintendo? Absolutely not! He'd probably love to have a Nintendo setting beside his SEGA, but his mom and dad wouldn't buy him one, so he bitches and moans about how absolutely awful the Nintendo is and how he wouldn't want to go near one out of risk of being infected with some sucky system virus in order to make himself feel better.

Microsoft and Sony fanboys tend to bash the Wii and talk about how much better their respective console is. This is a bit like saying, "I have a bigger penis than yours, so it doesn't matter if you are banging hotter women than me and enjoying it more while I am sitting at home beating my meat." Who cares what size your penis is, just focus on having fun and pleasing your women so they'll be back for more. In this analogy DJ, you having all three consoles would be akin to the massively hung guy who is constantly getting laid by three women at a time. Some of us have got it all, others are very pleased with our monogamous console relationships (like me and my 360), and others are in monogamous console relationships and secretly resent those who get to participate in a console ménage à trois whenever they wish too.

I know a lot of Sky's posts are exhaustingly complaint filled, but this one had some good points and I felt it was very insightful.

Same for me, I was considering a PS3, but the 360 was far less expensive, had more games I wished to own, and since it has been out longer it has a much larger library of games, and typically a much larger selection of cheap used games to choose from (and I am all about spending as little on gaming as humanly possible while still enjoying it).

The only two PS3 exclusive games I hold any interest in presently are MGS4 and God of War III. I decided I can live without MGS4, and I just saw the E3 video for GOWIII and it really just looks like more of the same, which is fine and I am sure I'd still enjoy it, but definitely not worth the extra cost. Plus, I have really enjoyed the DLC for Fallout 3, which is presently 360/PC exclusive.

On the Wii there are only two games I am really interested in playing, Umbrella Chronicles and Resident Evil 4.

Never played it. And for some reason I just don't feel interested in it.
