I really hope you succeed in doing this.....And explain to everyone how you did it.

Sorry for being the voice of disbelief on this one, but I just dont think what you want to do is possible.
I share your dubiety. Seems like a technical achievement that one could only accomplish if they had all of the originally recorded seperate elements.
Every 27th customer will get a ball-peen hammer, free!
I know their are people who can remove certain frequencies but what if a certain instrument is the same frequency as a characters voice.
"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

Exactly.
The only way I can see this being done is by isolating the dialogue (fairly simple, as it's generally the center channel of any 5.1 sound mix), then recreating the sound mix as well as the person doing so can. Unfortunately, this would require access to a lot of sound effects, and not just Star Wars sound effects - simple things like footsteps, clothing rustles, presence (that is, ambient sound), etc. Not to mention it would need to be mixed properly, and would probably never sound quite "right."
I wish you luck on this endeavor, but I have my doubts about the feasability of the project.
Still on my center channel there is other sounds that make their way to that speaker. This project will be the dream of any fan editor if possible. Look at the possibilities of making an edit truly perfect. I wish I could get my hands on all of the set audio from the films. OOOOOOH that would be great
Everytime I have attempted to mess with the movies its really funny The music skips a minute and it just sounds so chopped and glued.

Yup and not just other sounds, musical cues too, you cant remove them without destroying some of the existing sound that accompanies it, which means you'll kill pieces of the orig dialouge. Editing sound isn't like modifying art in Photoshop, there are no layers, just wavelengths.
For example, I have a scene in my edit I'm working on that I have to rebuild sound wise all the way from the ground up and its hard, really freaking hard. If I hadn't spent so many years in school taking classes on how to do it I would prob have given up by now, I couldn't imagine trying to rebuild the SFX for an ENTIRE Star Wars film.
And thats assuming you could isolate the center channel in a clean mix, which is hardly ever the case. There's so many little things going on in a mix, from echoes, to ambient sounds,... like take a blaster for example, that blaster could go off in the RS channel, move to the L Channel then end in Center . So Say you delete the RS and L channel, you still need to eliminate the Center part and say that part is mixed in during alot of talking...
yeah... then when you have do that to an entire film, you then have to REBUILD the L and RS channels from scratch without having all the orig ILM elements. SO you then have to grab from game files or god knows what...
Sorry I'm calling huge shenanigans on this one... editing a film is one thing, color correcting, add/changing mattes are another. But the soundmix you cannot mess with, you either cut it, clean it, or rebuild it. Removing sound-fx and music from a 5.1 mix just cannot be done I've come to believe this post is alot of talk and wishful thinking.

Did the Credits had Dialogue and SFX?
-Angel
No Angel they did not... as well as the opening credits... neither have dialogue or SFX, again I call upon logic to answer this question "Can you remove/separate dialogue, SFX, ambient noise and Music from a 5.1 mix?" the answer is no you cannot. You cant even guarantee a clean center channel, being that the mix will carry over into center channel sometimes (a fact I HATE mind you.. makes fan-editing a ton more difficult).
So, Fishmanlee, please do yourself a favor and post something of real substance/proof otherwise yur getting the hopes up of many editors dreaming of the idea of a clean mix to draw from. Personally, I think judging by the quality for your Poster for the "ReScore" I doubt your skillz, if not your judgement over a quality product... but thats just me, I may be wrong... lol right.

even if this project doesnt work, i would love to see a musicless edition created, even if it requires a large amount of us to build up a large sfx library online and perhaps cut it into homework chunks? id be up for it. maybe someone cuts dialogue as closely as they can, and someone does shuttles etc.

My eyes...
The glows are going over the edges... not to mention that are over powered. Green to blue saber was a bit...
Where there is music and you add yours i can also listen both of them.
Where you add music to musicless parts it was too loud.
See it as a feedback.
