When was the turning point for TF.NET?

A while back ago, the whole board was one giant mass of gush. They heavily censored everything remotely resembling a bash of Lucas or the Prequel Trilogy. But now... I'm seeing bashing everywhere. Even from a lot of MODS! And it's running rampant. This has me curious. Where was the turning point where TF.NET opened its eyes?

I was permabanned from TFN back in 2006, but that suprises me about the bashing now, cause they essentially drove out 90% of the bashers back then.

The big turning point at TFN was after Lucas announced the GOUT back in May 2006, as the gushers were stunned that Lucas had renaged because he always said that the OOT didnt' exist anymore.

Then once the GOUT was said to be non-anamorphic, all hell broke loose on the boards.  People like myself were pissed because we knew it was a spit in the face to this fanbase, then the gushers started chiming in gloating!  To this day I never understood why a SW fan would gloat that Lucas would spit on the original versions, the ones that made SW what is was today!

They started saying, "You are getting what you deserve!" and there were heated battles all over the boards.  Finally they closed the bashers sanctuary later that month, which came out of nowhere, and then they pretty much banned any basher of the PT and we all fled to OT.com or ORS.com.

I havent' posted there in 3 years, but I do remember the last days I was there it was a bunch of teenagers defending the PT, and I figured that place wasn't for me.  I still have the Private Message from a mod Darth Sapient, "No one gives a shit about the OOT, get over it and move on cause you'll never post here again."  I was then permabanned.

HAHA! That is really funny.

I post there regularly still. There's no rampant bashing there, thats for sure. Just occassional. And its full of idiotic Lucas bootlickers. But compared to the Gestappo days of 2003-2006, occassional probably seems rampant.

Isn't banning people from a message board the same thing as censorship? We should sue TFN for breaching the 1st amendment.

It's strangely compelling, in small doses. I hate the idea of a place that exists exclusively to give a corporation a daily free handjob, so I think it's good to chime in with a little discontent.

Your post prompted me to check out TF.net.

I will never forgive you.  Good god, I'm going to require therapy after visiting that nightmare of a place.  Are there really that many insane people in one place?

Check out the douchebags in The Secret History of Star Wars thread. Sorry Zombie. Looks like you got the worst of it.

Didn't they lose a lot of credibility when one of the people who used to run the site started the Yoda breaks wind in Episode III rumor?  And then further fueled speculation that they had been permitted to read the script and see an early cut of the film? ;)

LOL! I remember that rumor. Wasn't Yoda supposed to avoid capture by acting like a nutjob (and farting) -- so they assumed he wasn't a jedi?

Jedi don't fart? That explains a lot. All those foul gases trapped inside them.

Yeah, I think there was a junior novel with that title.

Yeah, and I believe it had a sequel:  "Why Sith Are Constipated."  You know, part of a young learners' series.

The 1st Ammendment only applies to the government, not a private business like TFN

That was mo mere rumour. That was almost in the movie.

Wasn't Yoda supposed to avoid capture by acting like a nutjob (and farting) -- so they assumed he wasn't a jedi?

Yeah it was after the attack on Kashyyyk. Right around the time when the clonetroopers have their spots on the lookout for survivors of the attack.

The other so shocking it's true was a young Solo being raised by wookies during the attack on Kashyyyk.

Turning Point?  The guys running the site are as crazy for all things lucas as they ever were.  If you mean dissenters on their forums those guys don't run the site.

The Last time i visited there they were attacking the South Park Creators and defending Indiana Jones IV for their beloved messiah.

Lucas indirectly creates the term Nuking the Fridge and they act like its the greatest fucking thing since sliced bread.  That movie was fucking awful on all counts.  Like Watching a sequel to plan 9 from outer space.

i don't know of any other movie director i respected so much as to watch three failed attempts at movies and give them a fourth chance to fuck things up.  My god add the clone wars movie and that is five goddamn times already stop giving this hack your money.

Given the ludacris ammount of vehemence and fanatical repetitiveness that certain types of posters (not naming names) can bring to the topic of discussing films, doesn't it make a certain ammount of sense that people who enjoyed those films might want to have their own corner of the net?

And didn't a certain sort of snarky angry film fan coin that term? It seems a flawed sort of reasoning to create a term to express your distaste of a scene in a movie, and then turn around and use that same term to justify your distaste for the forementioned film.

Well i guess your right about the person who coined it probably was a poster on aicn or something.

They go from loving the prequels to hating them at the drop of a hat.  They go from dissing th new trek film to sounding like studio plants practically overnight because they got to go to the premeire.

I am not naming names but that guy is so fake he will recant anything he says to stay in the good graces of hollywood.

But when he bitched and whined about not being able to post an early bad review of clone wars he acted like a child.

A Trekkie created the George Lucas raped our childhood saying.  Who also happens to be one of the team member of trekmovie.com and a previous writer for cinescape magazine.  Also directed free enterprise.

Well it was not exactly George Lucas raped our childhood i think some aicn twerp came up with that phrasing it was Altman going to  press screening of star wars special edition with a friend who was overheard saying "Its like watching 2 hours of your childhood being raped"

It is hard to believe the guy who created Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker also created ewoks and Jar Jar, Hayden Vader and the wooden romance of padme and anakin.

For those who are not aware Lucas did not write the love scene dialogue in Raiders or empire that was Kasden.  However he did write the dialogue in attack of the clones and revenge of the sith.

The snappy and witty lines of a new hope were written by Willard Huyck and Gloria Katz.  The Weakness of Jedi comes from Lucas.

Kasden merely did a quick rewrite to help Lucas but was not really involved in crafting the story.

George did not listen to him anyway.  Kasden thought Han Solo needed to die, so did Harrison Ford.    A second death star was lame and that the ewoks were too kiddie.

I personally agree with Lucas that killing Han off would be a mistake.  And that the ewoks can be given a pass if you look at star wars as a fairy tale for children.  Empire was too adult like and then jedi was like a childrens cartoon in comparison.

The day TFN has a turning point is when they can review films and books objectively and not worry about angering the grey bearded one.  I bet he does not even read his own site much less theirs.

They are biased for Lucas in a way, you would claim that originaltrilogy.com is against Lucas.  But that groups everyone as having the same views and not treating them as individuals.

I don't Parrot things or follow a bandwagon mentality i thought the special editions were awful when everyone thought they were great.  I hated Indy 4 when i first saw it not after reading the reviews,  I hated the prequels after seeing their awfulness in theaters i did not need someone to tell me they sucked.

I love the original trilogy for indy and for star wars and not because someone else said to, i would like them even if they made ten cents.

I agree, Boost.  But remember - all's fair in hate and trolling.  For many of those guys, belching hate as often as possible is all that matters, so using a derogatory term as often as possible is preferred - no matter how hypocritical or out of context.

My extreme dislike of Lucas' treatment of Star Wars is well-documented, but it doesn't transcend everything he's ever done.  For me, he's dropped the ball once - but he's also knocked it out of the park several times.

[back on topic]

For the record - the prequel gushers at TFN need their heads examined - or at the very least, they need to occasionally go outdoors.  When they're about 30 years older, all of the OOT upset will make much more sense to them.  They'll finally understand that art should be left alone.  If they don't, then the art was lost on them all along.
