Poll: ROTJ Celebration Themes - 1983 or 1997?

Since I don't know how to create an actual poll, this will be a post-in type of poll. Just post the letter indicating which of the two pieces of music is better. Posting a supporting opinion isn't necessary, but certainly welcome.

A) 1983

B) 1997

My answer is B.

Now, I hate the SEs, especially the 2004 SEs. In a perfect world I never would have heard the 1997 music, and there would be no choice today, since the newer piece wouldn't exist. I would gladly take Yub Nub, forever and only, if it meant GL never went down the SE road, but that's not reality. I hate that the SE's exist, but this piece of music is the only crystal-clear improvement from the OUT to the SE I can identify.

I hate Yub Nub. I hated it when I was eight and I hate it now. Of course, Yub Nub is Mozartian compared to Jedi Rocks, but that's a whole different poll altogether. God, I hate Jedi Rocks.

The original ewok celebration music was fun- it reminded be a bit of the cantina music from SW. To me, the new music is nondescript, non-hummable. Plus, it was the capper to a trilogy full of disappointing & disturbing alterations. Some of the many reasons I hate it.

It works best to watch the Non destroyed version of the movie even if it is the lousy gout rotj.

Version C the 2004 is even worse than B is has jar jar and Hayden.

I can't imagine a more tired and inappropriate meme than "New Age music" when people complain about the 1997 music. I'm convinced that the vast majority who parrot that complaint have never listened to New Age music before.

1997/2004 theme (how are they different? Haven't watched the Special Edition VHS ROTJ in a long time). It serves its function as an ending piece well, whereas the Ewok's Yub-Nub sounds like something you should be hearing mid-film.

That said: Sebastian Shaw as redeemed Anakin all the way.

Well, I can't speak for the 'vast majority' but in my case, you'd be wrong. I have some new age music and I actually like some of it very much.

Because it reminds me of getting on the high score table on the Atari arcade game.

I like both peices. However, the original theatrical ending has longer scenes with the main characters (Most noticably Luke's reunion with Han And Leia, the most heartwarming part of the ending), which is important because it's the last we'll ever see of them.

While Yub Nub might seem a bit anticlimactic, I contend that it's nowhere near as anticlimactic as the Kenny G., hippy-music that we got in 1997. Now, in all fairness, I actually enjoy the new piece of music in and of itself...but fit the mood of the closing scene, it does not. Yub Nub is cheerful, upbeat, and celebratory; what we're stuck with now sounds more like something I'd expect to hear in the elevator, or while sitting in my dentist's waiting room. Pretty, yes; celebratory & climactic, no.

Moreover, as has been pointed out many times before, the multi-planet celebration sequence - while visually impressive and fun to watch (apart from the Naboo & Gungan part, that is) - ultimately makes no sense. Really, George? The Death Star just blew up mere minutes ago, and planets all across the galaxy are simultaneously setting off fireworks and rejoicing en mass? Really?? You're implying that the whole conflict is over instantly? Just based on the fact that one battlestation was destroyed and one despot was killed? Really??

Whatever. The rebels having a victory party and celebrating in a manner consistent with the planet & culture in which they find themselves makes sense. The revisionist, unnaturally epic, shoehorned, self-contradictory BS we got got in 1997, I can do without entirely.

Its got to be B for me. Yub Nub is charming, but never seemed to fit the end of ROTJ. The new music just feels right.

I never noticed that- I noticed that the '97 version has an extra shot of Luke hugging Wedge, and they edited Luke's "wink" to the force ghosts, but I didn't notice that they cut down other parts as well.

Not surprising, since I usually try to avoid watching the re-edited ending.

in the original version, Leia runs up and hugs Luke, then they look at each other. then it cuts to Leia handing Luke off to Han.

in the SE and Destroyed ending, Leia runs up and hugs luke, then it immediately cuts to lando re-enacting his escape to Chewbacca, and then back to Leia handing Luke off to Han.

Wow, thanks Blackjack!  :-)  So the SE totally cuts out the part where Luke and Leia look at each other? 

Just out of morbid curiosity I'll have to watch the SE ending again.
