well, along with everyone else, I can only add my congratulations for this fine and perfectly executed project- i am in totally in awe!

i am a newbie to this forum and kind of stumbled across it. like many of you, I grew up with the records of SOSW and SOETB and knew them word for word- in the case of Star Wars, it was the only way I knew the film (along with Storybooks etc) as I was too young when the movie was released, and had to wait until '82 when it was premiered on TV (complete with adverts every 20 mins!).

A couple of weeks ago, I dug the LPs out (I couldn't ever bear to part with them) and I was going to transfer them onto CD and clean them up, but I thought I might just check the web first to see if anyone had already done it and save me the work. Of course they had, and, ahem, to paraphrase, "that's how I came to be in your service, if you take my meaning"...

Having the LPs, and before the days of video, I was the envy of all my school mates; but if only we could have dreamt of something like this! Great touch with adding the read along book on ESB- being an avid collector from an early age, I had those too, and still have the books (although the tapes have long gone). Things have come full circle; like someone else on this forum, my little 3 year old girl is getting into SW (again, because of the Princess), and we sat and read along with my original book and the audio on the DVD! Fantastic!

can't wait for SOROTJ- I never got hold of it over here in the UK, but have recently DL the audio and had a listen. the narration is a but cheesy and not in the same class of Roscoe or Malachi, but great fun all the same.

one last point- anyone looking to do the same for the Raiders and Indy Temple of Doom story LPs? again, I grew up with these and they'll be indelibly imprinted in the memory! The Raiders LP was a little different as it had no narration, and it even won a Grammy for best Spoken word record at the time. Interestingly, the Indy LP sounds like it has the same narrator as ROTJ (Chuck Riley). would love to hear if anything like this is planned

I would love to get a copy of your star wars projects and I have tried to figure out how to download them. Here are the problems I am having.

alt.binaries.starwars doesn't seem to exist anymore.

I have no idea what a "torrent" is.

I don't know how to access myspleen, the webpage just shows a username/password login.

RapidShare doesn't have a "search" option.

Is there any website that I can access ( or an exact link to rapidshare ) that has the ISO image available for download?

With MySpleen, you need an invitation to join from someone who already has an account.  Just ask, and I would imagine someone could send you an invite.

You can also do a search for a site called LinkTalk.  FanEdit has a whole section there with the RS links to all kinds of stuff, including these.

a.b.sw hasn't gone anywhere but it has a definite learning curve. I need to do another repost of my projects, definitely. I'm also afraid that the torrent route might not help out, as I highly doubt that SW or Empire is being seeded much if at all at myspleen... Just checked and as I thought, no seeders. That's the problem with torrents. With age they just die. Shoot me a PM with your address and I'll send you a copy.

Right now I might as well come out and say that I probably won't ever have the time or inclination to do Jedi. I just don't have the time or passion anymore for working on these kinds of projects. I mainly check in here now just to keep up on Ady's and Puggo's projects. Nothing else really holds my interest anymore.

You can go about your business. Move along, move along.

Can't say I blame you for your feelings, but you've got to know that hundreds of people LOVED your releases....maybe one day you'll get the passion again....let's hope.

I love everybody. Lets all smoke some reefer and chill. Hug and kisses for everybody.

Move - did you ever at least start Jedi, like convert and clean up the audio track, at least?  Maybe you could make it available for someone else to follow in your footsteps.

I used Scotty Balls' vinyl transfers, the best out there IMHO. For SOSW I used his widely available mp3's. For Empire, he supplied me with a lossless PCM capture and I used that. He did the same for Jedi, but honestly there is no real difference to my ears. They both sound great. If someone wants to do Jedi, by all means be my guest and knock yourself out. The mp3's out there should be a great starting point...

sorry to hear you are getting tired of it all Movealong.  Your edits and discs are immaculate and some of my favorites in my collection.  Thanks so much for all your amazing work.  I hope everything else is going well for you. :)

Hey MoveAlong I was just thinking about your projects. I almost watched one today. Are you ever doing a ROTJ one?

I don't know how it was so hard for search to find this thread, but I just wanted to say - after watching it again - this is some of the best color correction this movie's ever seen!

I was only 2 when Star Wars came out, but my Dad took me to see it anyway. It's my first memory of anything, and I can't begin to explain the effect of the film on my imagination at such an impressionable age. I saw Empire when I was just 5. An inseparable part of my childhood.

I had the LPs and listened to them often. I found them the other day during a cleanout, and regrettably decided to sell them as I haven't had an LP player for years. I'd rather let someone actually enjoy them. The buyer had this look on his face like he'd just bought a piece of gold. Still, I had my regrets, and decided to check online to see if there was anyone sharing a recording.

I was amazed to find this project. I discovered it on a torrent site and left my computer on 24/7 to give myself the best chance of downloading the whole lot. Empire came down fairly quickly but it took a few weeks before someone seeded Star Wars long enough for me to get it. The torrents aren't dead, they just need to sleep sometimes. I'll be seeding mine as long as possible.

My niece is 5 now, and her mum doesn't let her watch movies, but I convinced her that the Story of Star Wars and Empire were suitable for her age. I sat with her as she watched your edit and listened to the story recording from the old LPs - she was captivated! I loved it too, but it was especially magical for her, as her first introduction to this story. She turned to me wide-eyed when it was finished and said.... "was that real?"

Commercial movies exist purely for entertainment purposes, but like all art, some works strike deep chords with their audiences. the Star Wars trilogy is like that, because it takes us into an effortless fantastical world and depicts deeply familiar human themes. For kids like my niece, entertainment is a part of social development, and your project gave me the opportunity to make this story a part of her growing up experience, just like it was mine.

So I do want to say thanks. I got the feeling that you'd had a few disappointments with this project, but I do want to be amongst the voices to let you know that you've done something quite unique in the Star Wars universe, and something that has given back an experience that would have disappeared with the 70's - the wonder of listening to those old records - and made it relevant again. It will be preserved for future generations, my niece included.

Secondly, I think that the Jedi project would be well worth the effort if there is anyone in the community ready to take it on. You have a great talent and have already given generously; it must have been difficult to put so much into a project without any reward except the thanks of a few grateful netizens. I'm not sure if there are any recordings of the third LP available out there - it's certainly not on any torrent lists I've found, and I had trouble hunting it down on alt.binaries.starwars - but perhaps it's time to stir the pot again and see if there is anyone out there - yourself included - who might be able to summon up the enthusiasm to complete the project.

3 years late to the party- I just did a ridiculous transfer of a Japanese vinyl copy of Story Of Star Wars on a decent turntable with an expensive cartridge, captured at 96Khz/24Bit. Was wondering what to do with video, but then randomly came across this thread.

I'm glad this exists, now off to find it somewhere.

I'd love a lossless copy of that The Story of Star Wars!  Are you planning on sharing/releasing?

ps- this is still running at myspleen

I'd be happy to share!

I've just done the raw capture and need to edit the two sides together. (they're like 1GB each at the moment)

It's not completely noiseless, as there are ticks and pops a bit, so I'd like to clean those up but I'd be happy to share the before and after.

I downloaded the MoveAlong Edition last night, will check it out later in the week.

I have an idea for my own video version, too.

OK I've watched a few minutes of The MoveAlong  Story of Star Wars and the intro is amazing! I had actually conceptualized the black text of the record crawling against the blue background, but you actually made it! Well done!

I have a few more ideas I'd like to examine in mine, but you've inspired me. THanks!

Great, thanks.

I have a pristine copy of the Story of Star Wars, which as far as I can tell has never been played. I've wanted to rip a high-res lossless version for ages, but my equipment just isn't good enough.

I've been looking for this as well as The Empire Strikes Back for about 5 months. There are no seeders over at MySpleen. How on earth can I get a copy of this? This is just too wonderful not to have in my collection. I own pristine copies of the vinyl and just know this would complete my DVD collection. BTW there is nothing posted on a.b.starwars either. Anyone have a copy floating around?
