Possible? Mono Audio to Stereo Audio

I'm working on a preservation effort for a movie, I'm not done yet so I don't want to name the film.  But I've done a fresh telecine of it, and can no longer get access to the film reels.  So what I'm wondering, is, using what free/paid tools could I take the mono audio and divide it up into stereo channels.  I'm not even sure if this is possible, but if it is, it'd help my project out alot.  I can give you information as to which format the audio and video is in, if needed.

Thanks!

Are you asking how to put the mono audio in both stereo channels, or how to separate elements and make it into a stereo track? The first thing is easy, I'm fairly sure the second thing can't be done.

I used to be very active on this forum. I’m not really anymore. Sometimes, people still want to get in touch with me about something, and that is great! If that describes you, please email me at [my username]ATgmailDOTcom.

Hi everybody. You’re all awesome. Keep up the good work.

It can be done, using filters and delays and whatnot, but at the end of the day you only end up with a fake upmixed stereo track. It might sound more exciting to the ears, but as far as I'm concerned that is not 'preservation'.

Sure it can be done.  Just think about what Dave Dexter did with Meet The Beatles and other albums released by Capitol in the US.  They sound different alright.  [But not better.]

However, in practice you must take into account the “fuckwit factor”. Just talk to Darth Mallwalker…

Figured it out, I wanted to put the mono track in twice, once into each stereo channel.

For converting Mono to stereo you can use FlexiMusic Audio Editor, it can do this with in a second and here you can edit each channels seperately.
