2. The Empire Strikes Back - Do I need to explain?
3. Raiders of the Lost Ark - The only good Indy movie, and it's a near-perfect film in its own right

5. Ghost Busters - Who doesn't love it?  Honestly?
6. E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial - One of Spielberg's most emotional films

The eighties had so many great movies. Seriously, that was THE decade for awesome movies.

I think just about all of mine have been covered, so I will mention just a few that I haven't seen listed yet, in no particular order of preferance,

- The Wrath of Kahn (seems like it is becoming unpopular to like this one these days, all I can say is screw it! I love this movie!)

- The Evil Dead II (ultimate comedy horror, no matter how down I am, this movie always puts me in a good mood. Maybe because it depicts people having a far worse day than I have ever had.)

- Full Metal Jacket (can't believe this one wasn't on anyone's list already, at the risk of sounding like a first year film student, Kubrick is the man!)

-Brazil

These have already been mentioned, but yeah, Blade Runner, Alien, and Stand By Me (reminds me of life as a 12 year old boy, which is flipping awesome! I feel sorry for women, since they never get to experience this brilliant stage of human existence), are definitely three of my all time favorite films.

Also, I hesitate to even mention Red Dawn, since I don't really consider it that high quality of a movie, but I still enjoy, perhaps just the premise more than anything. If any foreign powers ever invade the United States, you'll know where to find me...

When did it become a faux-pas to like The Wrath of Khan?  This is the first I've heard of this.

There is no lingerie in space…

C3PX said: Gaffer is like that hot girl in high school that you think you have a chance with even though she is way out of your league because she is sweet and not a stuck up bitch who pretends you don’t exist… then one day you spot her making out with some skinny twerp, only on second glance you realize it is the goth girl who always sits in the back of class; at that moment it dawns on you why she is never seen hanging off the arm of any of the jocks… and you realize, damn, she really is unobtainable after all. Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

Oh, I dunno. Last ST discussion we had there was a whole lot of face palming, sighing, and baaaaing anytime I or anyone else put The Wrath of Kahn at or near the top of their list.

It kind of hurt my feelings a bit... I cried about it, and considered tossing out my Wrath of Kahn DVD (the ONLY ST DVD I own). I had visions of Ash from The Evil Dead dramatically hacking off his own hand, but with me dramatically hacking the DVD out of my life... I cried about it... I spent several hours in therapy and came to the conclusion that I don't care what the cool kids think. If they want to be cool by being different than everyone else, I don't have to be different with them just so I can be exactly the same (which, admittedly, would make me cool). I guess that is just the sacrifice I have to make to continue loving the things I love, if that makes me a sheep, then sheer me and make yourself a sweater.

No order of preference for me, beyond the first pick:

Crimes and Misdemeanors (probably my favorite Woody Allen film)

Top Secret! (the best Zucker/Abrahams/Zucker movie ever. seriously)

Hannah and Her Sisters (one of Woody's short-list best movies)

Planes, Trains, and Automobiles (how have you all missed this one so far? I love it!)

Star Trek II (my brother and I have quoted it forever)

Noises Off! (hysterical)

Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (also hysterical)

Raiders of the Lost Ark (naturally)

Die Hard (am I wrong, or was this movie the template for the modern-day action flick?)

Manhunter (I really wish Red Dragon was never made)

1) This was off the top of my head, so I'm probably forgetting something pretty obvious.

2) No, I'm not forgetting Empire - I like it, but I've never loved it the way everyone else has.

Well now if you mention Wrath of Khan as the best star trek film you get shouted down by those who think the JJ movie is superior.

Something like newer is better.

Everyone has named the obvious (Empire, Raiders, Back to the Future),  so my list will be the OTHER movies that seem to get left out because it was such a great decade in movies:

1.  Midnight Run -  The movie is hilareous from start to finish

2.  Plains, Trains, Automobiles - I think someone named it above, but the best line, "Those aren't pillows!!!!!"

3.  Predator -  Arnold in his prime.

4.  Lethal Weapon -  The sequels started to become a bit too goofy, but this was a gritty action film.

5.  Sixteen Candles - John Hughes in his prime.

6.  Breakfast Club -  Perfect Casting.

7.  National Lampoons Vacation - "This is crazy, this is crazy!"

8.  Fletch -  This movie always get overlooked, but is funny as hell.

9. Witness - Underrated Harrison Ford Flick.

10.  The Untouchables -  "They put one of your guys in the hospital, you put one of theirs in the morgue!"

11.  Rain Man -  One of the best dramas of the decade.

12.  Fast Times at Ridgemont High -  Movie still holds up today.

13.  Risky Business -  Teenage movies today always play down to their audience, but this does the opposite.

14.  Wargames -  Loved it as a kid, and another movie that is made for kids, but doesn't talk down to the audience.

Blade Runner - Favorite film of all time.

Raiders Of The Lost Ark

Indiana Jones and the Temple Of Doom

Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade

Back To The Future

Planes, Trains, And Automobiles

The Empire Strikes Back

Pee-Wee's Big Adventure

Field Of Dreams

Batman

Honorable Mention - The Breakfast Club.  I'm a huge fan of films that take place primarily in a single location - Rear Window, Alien, last half of Jaws, The Big Kahuna, etc.  It takes a strong story and great character interaction, but when it's done well, it's a very interesting experience.

The Princess Bride is a great 80's film that I had overlooked.

1. Amadeus (The only film that deserved every Academy Award it received)

2. Empire Strikes Back

3. The Hitcher (damn that was a good movie I won't pick up anybody after that one)

4. Blade Runner

5. I am just going to say Indiana Jones as a whole

6. Caddyshack (that was just pure genius and it wasn't filthy like comedy is today)

7. Beastmaster (I liked it)

8. Predator (I watched it from the time I was little to now)

9. Lethal Weapon (I hate cop movies but the leathal weapon movies were all good to me)

10. Witness (I am just an avid Harrison Ford nut)

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

Whats up with the (u)'s? There is no swear filter here to try to trick, if the is what was up. If it is suppose to be some form of censorship, it has to be the lousiest form of it I have ever seen.

1.Blade Runner-"I've seen things you people wouldn't believe..."

2.Raiders of the Lost Ark-if not for near perfection, simply for the scene in the Cairo bar-"You wanna talk to God?"

3.The Empire Strikes Back

4.Once Upon a Time in America-butchered on release, Leone's epic has such depth that I was bowled over. Beats Godfather II hands down.

5.The Living Daylights-Dalton is fresh and the film just plain works-which is the less than I can say for any Bond since.

6.The Road Warrior-Mad Max is back..and he's got a dog...

7.Return of the Jedi-many childhood memories.

8.The Shining and Full Metal Jacket-Kubrick's two 80's entries. How we miss you Stanley.

9.Die Hard-Alan Rickman and Bruce Willis..need I say more? Oh. Yippee ki-yay...

10.Temple of Doom-sheer fun. "No time for love Doctor Jones!!"
