My Blade Runner Final Cut Four-Disc Collector's Edition is in Letterbox?

On the back of my Blade Runner 4 disc box set in the lower part in the aspect detail it says this: WIDESCREEN VERSION PRESENTED IN A "LETTERBOX" WIDESCREEN FORMAT PRESERVING THE "SCOPE" ASPECT RATIO OF ITS ORIGINAL THEATRICAL EXHIBITION. ENHANCED FOR WIDESCREEN TVS. When I watch it on my widescreen TV it doesn't have the black bars on all four sides like the GOUT. How is this letterbox and not anamorphic when it is stretched to fit the screen?

Because "scope" is 2.35:1 and widescreen TVs are 16:9.

ENHANCED FOR WIDESCREEN TVS means anamorphic.

It can be both.  "Enhanced for Widescreen TVs" = anamorphic as Max_Rebo said.  That means the image will fill the screen left to right.

BUT

depending on the aspect ratio of the original film, you may end up with some letterbox lines at the top and bottom, as Moth3r said.  16x9=1.78:1 theatrical aspect ratio.  Anything wider than that (more than 1.78) and you'll end up with letterbox lines, even if the disc is anamorphic.

My outlook on life - we’re all on the Hindenburg anyway…no point fighting over the window seat.
