Young Indiana Jones... a preservation (* unfinished project *) - a mass of info & ideas — Page 6

They *were* one-hour episodes.  The DVDs just cram two episodes together and reedit them to fit in order to make mini-"films."  Which is why I want to get the originally aired versions.

They're terribly slow. Each episode could definitely be whittled down to an hour (instead of two) without really losing much of anything.

It's worth seeing, though I think a lot of people simply wouldn't have the patience for it.

They need a good edit.

That would be a dream come true.

Is there a way to get these?

Sorry for bumping an old thread everyone. I just started getting into the Young Indiana Jones series and found myself a bit irritated by having two episodes edited together. Often they seemed unrelated and I found myself really enjoying the one half but despising the other.

Anyway, to get to the point, does anyone have the original versions of the episodes as they originally appeared when first airing on TV? I've caught some "Old Indy" bookends on YouTube and laughed a bit so would like to see the whole unedited episodes. I know a torrent was mentioned but I can't seem to find it.

I can post the episodes (preferably the discs themselves) that I have. I am still looking for the remaining episodes tho. I will check later

See the bottom of the first page of this post, they are listed there.  If I recall correctly, even the first round of LD and VHS releases were edited versions of the broadcast episodes?

I picked up a copy of the "complete" DVD box set, which turned out to be a Chinese pirate version off of eBay for my son a few years back.  We sorted that out with the seller, but it is edited as well.  Chapter indexing and bonus material is flakey or missing on these.

Amazon reviews indicate that a re-release is pending.

Would be nice if these were on Blu-ray with the movies. Steven Spielberg has been great with his Directorial filmography on Blu-ray. Each are stunning.

I actually believe this series had more to do with Lucas than Speilberg... However, it was shot on 16mm and not video so it could indeed look great on Blu-Ray; however, I don't think there's enough of a demand for them.

The DVDs are already expensive as it is. No interviews with the stars for each episode, they were not well known then but they're better known now, instead they put a lot of educational docus on it. Unfortunate.

I definitely agree about how expensive it is. The Seasons are way overpriced! It almost seems as if Lucas doesn't want people to get them...

I don't suppose any leads have popped up in regards to the original broadcast versions of these?

Edit: Also, shouldn't this thread be over in preservations?

I have some copies of all of the broadcast episodes.  They all fit on about 24 DVD's.

Unfortunately there is some terrible frame blending on them.  Likely because somebody tried to make the video progressive without performing an IVTC first.  There are a ton of weird frame errors on the discs too.

I am sure if somebody spent some time, love and care on the discs they could release a decent set.  Although I do have the same problem as Sacrifice up there, in that I don't have the 4 unaired episodes.  But I do have all the rest, with the original Old Indy bookends.  As well as some of the Family Channel re-edits.

If there is somebody out there from the community that knows what they are doing and wants to give it a crack I could arrange a way to get them to you.

I used to have the broadcast versions on S-VHS, but have since lost them.  I read that they were going to be posted online, but haven't seen any (other than the released DVDs).  Is there an update to when these might be available?  Thanks!

It's on my list. *sigh* Eventually. I have my own masters...but I'm always looking for others. I recorded everything on my own VHS way back when...in stereo.

Hi folks, first time posting after years of lurking.

I would be interested in working on this project, either as a straight preservation of the best copies available, or as a redaction edit of the higher quality DVD release into the original episode edits. I have a few of the episodes in bad quality, so to complete any more than just those episodes would require a copy of someone's original edit masters. Alternatively, if we want to parcel out the episodes, I can start on the ones I have and see what I get.

There were some clips on Youtube a while back with the George Hall bookends material in decent quality...If they are any better quality than what we have currently, we could check that, too.

I am trading (or purchasing if the trade falls through) for a 23 disc Young Indiana Jones Set (all 44 real episodes - broadcast versions uncut and commercial free) with a regular DVD-R menu and a 22 disc set of all the rereleased chapter versions and professional looking menus. Either way I am getting it (unless it is illegal of course) and if I purchase them it may take even longer... but I figured I would make them readily available for all of you. I am tired of waiting and willing to buy them so we can all enjoy them. The quality is supposedly 8.5/9 out of 10 to 10 out of 10. Let me know what you all think about this.

These sound like great sets that you are getting and i agree that you should make them available for other fans to enjoy if possible.

Anyone still working on this project to preserve The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles in its orginial form?

Bumped with high hopes that someone will release what they have regardless of quality.  I'd rather see the originals in whatever state than not have them at all.  Anyone willing to share?
