would you consider having yodas pod possibly decayed in the background in any of the dagobah shots, like maybe when luke is running around?

No LESS blue than this...?

It's appearing that shade of blue because of the flash overexposed it.

I love everybody. Lets all smoke some reefer and chill. Hug and kisses for everybody.

As 'screenshots' seem to be welcomed for thoughts, there will be further ideas in the pipeline done this way, and I want to thank doubleofive for his much-appreciated help and willingness in this.

Adywan, a while ago on this thread, when no-one knew what direction you were planning on, I previously hoped that you'd use briefer, quicker shots of the initial SE 'Wampa' suit shots.  However, I am pleased that you seem to want to reflect the original 'not so revealing' sequence a bit more....as compared to the current SE release, because less is more in this case.

But I remember thinking on my first seeing the original 'Empire', back in my youth, that I would have liked to have seen just a little bit more of the Wampa creature (especially when I saw it's Kenner 'Hoth Wampa' figure, seen here -  http://theswca.com/images-toys/figuretoys/wampa-catalog.jpg  - Note: the plastic horns are set 'high' in this photo.  On the actual figure, they were moveable, and looked far better when the horn 'points' were set in a 'lowered' position, more against the figure, instead), although the SE release gave us too much, and lingered too long on the first two new suit shots I thought. (see pics four and five from the top)

One thing then, that I really hope you will consider keeping in at the end of whatever sequence you come up with, is the 'final reveal' shot at the end, of the 'armless' SE Wampa, or even just a briefer version of it, as it begins to turn side-on to us with it's large, outstretched left 'paw'.  I reckon that this particular SE addition makes for a nice 'pay-off' at the end of the Wampa's short screen-time.  (the 'blood' on it's front could be removed, as you 'seem to be omitting' the shots in pics four and five, or added a little under the mouth of the 'lunging' one, seen in pic third from the bottom, as maybe the Wampa has been eating Luke's taun-taun out of sight, and hung him away for later....)

Whichever 'look' you choose to go for (I won't necessarily take the one in your colour 'preview' as being the final one....), if you are able to bring some 'uniformity' to the various 'face-designs', that would be great.  Just for the record, my own preferrence would be the 'mustard-nosed' original face (seen in pics one and three from the top), but with the rounded 'gnarled horns', shown on the SE release suit (see pics four, five, and nine from the top), and which are on the Kenner figure too! :)   Whatever you choose to do, I also hope that you keep the other brief SE addition I think is worthy, which is the new 'close-up' of the Wampa's 'arm and side' (see pic six from the top), as Luke cut himself down.  Would you be able to change the 'paw pads' seen there, from black 'pads' to something that better matches the 'fleshy' coloured 'pads' seen around the black 'claws' in the other shots though?  And the same with the final 'armless' shot too, if you decide to include it?....

There are a lot of nice ideas currently flying around from GoodMusician and others here, and that 'Executor Bridge' shot, along with the 'greyer-looking' TIEs look terrific.  I loved the 'greyer' look of the 'A New Hope' ones, so I'm very pleased about the fact that they will not be such a harsh 'blue' now, in certain shots.  And I'm sure looking forward to seeing 'brown' asteroids again!

I will say this. I had the orignal TIE-fighter toy with detachable sides. And it looked like that exact same color. Wish I still had it, but then don't we all.

I came along in the 90's as a star wars fan (was born late 80's) so when the SE's came out, that's what I'm use to... although I will admit, I enjoyed watching the ORIGINALS on VHS... I loved Return of the Jedi ... lol... didn't EVER watch Empire...and A New Hope was a good stand alone film. heh

I liked the cover art for ROTJ heh...

Where I'm going with this is I was use to the micromachine Tie fighter, which was about that color as well. If I had to say a paint color, I'd say "Gunship Grey with a bit of white added to lighten it." I once was painting a model of the USS Voyager, and that was the grey I used... and it's that sort of blueish grey... it can look both colors depending on the lighting...

Is it not sad that in this time, we are more surprised by acts of love than acts of hate?

So Adywan has picked a shade at random and is sticking to it? Whatever the real color of the original models, the intention in 1980 was to make them blue, it just wasn't a consistent shade of blue (after taking account for shadows and so forth). I just think it would be dull and annoying to turn them gray like ANH again.

I have not just picked a shade at random at all. I'm pretty sure ILM did when they first did ESB. I have checked every shot of TIEs in both ESB & ROTJ and the colouring is all over the place and it has nothing to do with shadowing or lighting, as i have mentioned before. I could have easily have just gone with grey for continuity but that was not the original colour of the model and how they were to be depicted in ESB & ROTJ. But with the ever changing colour a decision had to be made and i have gone with a balance that will still bring colour to them. the original models were painted "stormy sea blue" . The coloour si now discontinued and the toys are just a rough estimation so you can't go by the colour of them

Could you post a sample shot of your ideal TIE color for ESBR?

I agree that the new toys do look bluer. As far as my memory of the original toy, the color does seem to be the same as the actual model, unless my mind is playing tricks on me. I may be "old" by the standards of some of these people in the forum born in the late 80's, but I'm not that old. ;)

Okay, so it's a light blue distinguishable from the gray surroundings (not just a darker gray)... got it.

Old ( for starwars) is when you were old enough to have seen Starwars in 77' before it was A new Hope. I was about 5 when I watched Starwars in 77.  I still remember watching it at that young of an age. The Special Editions were a dissapointment in my opinion. The original trilogy has not gotten a fair shake until Ady started his edit.

I find it interesting that those born in the late '80s "grew up with the SEs."

I was born in 1989, and I first saw STAR WARS in 1994.

I went into the living room one night to get milk out of the kitchen, and I saw my parents watching a monster being crushed by a gate on TV.  I thought it looked cool, so I asked them what it was.  They said "Star Wars," and when I asked if I could watch, they said it was too late, and we didn't own it, but my grandma did.

She had the trilogy VHS set with yellow lettering (my favorite box art by far, probably out of nostalgia).  I remember being incredibly disappointed that I never once saw a monster being crushed by a gate in STAR WARS, but I loved the movie.  (It was a beg letdown for me when I saw it in ROTJ and it wasn't nearly as cool as I had dreamed it up to be).

The next Christmas, my parents bought me the "Faces" VHS set, and I watched them till the tapes wore thin (we had to replace ROTJ once and ESB twice).

Then the SEs came out, and I didn't understand what all that weird new stuff was - I thought it looked stupid, especially Mos Eisley in SW and the new Sarlacc.  My parents bought me the SE VHS set later that year, and I watched it maybe twice.

My point is, I find it interesting that so many people my age "grew up" with the SE's, when I didn't - I guess that's why a lot of the suggestions of keeping SE changes surprise and confuse me (windows on Bespin, for example).  But, as with ANH:R, I'm sure I'll be more than pleased with everything (hell, he made me like the new Mos Eisley sequence, though I still hate the extra Dewback search shots).

I personally think that all TIE Fighters in the OT should be grey (similar to ANH) and not blue; the colour that the imperials use on their ships is in fact grey, as visible on the star destroyers.  Besides, grey looks a lot better on TIE fighters as seen in A New Hope, and we'll also want to keep the colour consistant for all episodes.

Another 'blue' object I think should be recoloured back to grey is the Executor itself, especially when viewed in contrast to the smaller star destroyers.  I tihnk the executor should be recoloured to grey even if that is not how it originally appeared.

I agree on the TIEs - I like their ANH coloring better, I always thought the blue looked rather odd.

The Executor, however, I disagree on - I think it looks perfect and nothing about it should be changed (except for that real bad explosion in ROTJ).

I was 2, but to this day it's one of my most vivid memories. You may scoff at that but it's true. What one of my favorite memories of all time (and favorite Star Wars memories) is when my father took me to Empire. We were late, we walked in exactly when Luke was hanging upside down. It was an amazing image to me. Then we sat down and I asked my dad "can we watch it twice?" He nodded yes.

I just joined so I could add some pictures for you.

The Science of Star Wars exhibit is currently at the Science Museum of Minnesota and I just took a few pictures of the TIE they have there.  I honestly can't remember which film it was from, but the pictures may help.

If you'd like, I'm planning on going back again.  If you need better pictures, let me know.  I could also bring along a gray card so I could get the best color.

I agree- I'm never going to get used to those squirming cgi dewbacks. They were one of the the things that most bothered me about the SE.

My nephew became a fan at the age of 2 when he saw ESB in 1980. I was a late-bloomer.....I became a fan when I saw SW and ESB in 1982 when I was 11. ;-)
