So how do you reclaim the colors Adywayn? What are you using for comparison?

Btw, did you ever get those VHS tapes you were talking about to compare the TIE colors?

I'm using various sources as reference, such as the GOUT, SE TB release, on set, model & publicity pics. To recover some colour i am using the TB ESB SE release overlayed in the bad sections over the 2004 version. But because the TB release isn't as sharp i can only use it at about a 20% transparency. the rest has to be recoloured by many layers & masks for each colour and shade. Not an easy task, but the colours are so bad in the 2004 release that it really needs the work done on it.

The VHS TV version wasn't good at all but i was able to use some sections to check colours. The TIEs aren't nearly as oversaturated as they are in the official VHS releases, but the other colours remain about the same as the GOUT (without the red tint) which makes me think that the blues were boosted for the Video releases, then they went mad for the 2004 set. I just wish i could see some proper frames from an original print. I'm going to use the ESB TIE model shots as reference. I hate the oversaturated blues of the TIES in ESB & ROTJ> too much of a difference from ANH and too far from the actual model. It's one thing I've always hated and the way they change colour from shot to shot. This is the colour the TIE's will be in ESB:R (just a quick mock-up)
