What kind of trouble? I've done the DVD9 ISO thru Nero a couple of times now and it worked each time.

My outlook on life - we’re all on the Hindenburg anyway…no point fighting over the window seat.

As I say there doesn't seem to anything wrong with the ISO. Can I can't seem to burn the damn thing! Nero is giving me trouble.

You need to be specific and tell us exactly, step by step what you are doing....maybe then you'll get the help you need.

A few things...

1. Kill any docked programs such as Anydvd....

2. What model of burner are you using?

3. What media are you using?

I love everybody. Lets all smoke some reefer and chill. Hug and kisses for everybody.

Hey, Ady. Thank you big time for putting so much time, effort, and skill into this project. I am NOT a fan of the Episode 4 Special Edition, but your edit will be the one I watch when I want a beautiful, widescreen, professional-quality version of the film.

I haven't been this excited about Star Wars in a long time! Actually made me think about putting a Star Wars poster on my wall again. Anyone game to create a 27"x40" Revisited poster in a vintage 70's style?

Anyway, just a question on DVD-navigatability: when accessing scenes via the chapter menus, the English subtitle option automatically shows up with the movie. Is there a fix I missed?

I'm using the ISO version I downloaded from Usenet burned to Memorex DVD+R DL disc with DVD Decrypter.

Thanks again!

I get that with PowerDVD on my computer but my home theater DVD player is fine.

Hmmm... interesting. Thanks, VBangle. Looks like it may be time to invest in a newer home theater DVD player.

No, you just have to turn off subtitles in your player settings. It's probably set to automaticly show english subs

After downloading the ISO and burning with Nero, I have zero problems to report. Adywan, I cannot express just how fulfilling it feels to have this copy of Star Wars. This is the special edition as it should have been. It just feels right.

I've now watched your edit about 6 times (bits and pieces here and there, straight through twice), and while I know you have no intention of touching this project ever again, two things occurred to me while watching the DVD9 last night.

The first is that the Falcon jump out of hyperspace over Yavin does look a little canned. I think what might make it easier for the mind to accept is if there was a brief flash of light as the Falcon comes into the screen, just to visually cue that the Falcon has left hyperspace (which is suggested via blue light in the Falcon's cockpit, your use of which is brilliant, so I would think a blue flash of light would make sense).

The second thing, and this really only occurred to me for the first time just last night after having watched this movie dozens of times, is when Red squadron does their 'standing by' routine during the approach on the Death Star. For whatever reason, they don't call out in sequential order, as in Red 1 should go first, then Red 2, etc. This makes no sense to me, as you would not really know when you are expected to do your 'standing by' call if everyone was just calling out randomly. The only reason I could come up with for why Lucas chose to do it this way is that the call out order was based on rank, not number. Now I know this is being incredibly anal, but the more I think about it, the more it bugs me. Anyway, these might be things for future editors to attempt (or myself if I ever decide to take a stab at it).

Again, thanks for all the hard work.

At first, I thought Ady had un-done one of his editing choices, as I had downloaded the DVD-5 version first, then he released the DVD-9 and Purist versions, because I remember seeing that scene edited so that the pilots call out in sequence. After some digging thru my discs, I realized I saw it that way in "Deleted Magic", not Revisited.

My outlook on life - we’re all on the Hindenburg anyway…no point fighting over the window seat.

No kidding? I'll have to check out my Deleted Magic DVD again to see that. I can't believe I never noticed it.

Negative, negative....

If it's somewhere, it's not on "Deleted Magic." (Leastwise not on my copy, playing in the background.)

There was an extra feature on Deleted Magic with the dogfights (meaning the final star wars scenes) where he reconstructed how it was originally scripted. I would assume that would be where this is.

Thanks to whoever first added the details of Ady's discs to fanedits.com.

I have updated the Xvid and PAL DVD5 with specs and screenshots, and currently working on updating the PAL DVD9. I used OBtwosy's cover as the main artwork for the DVD5, since the 'official' cover is specific to the DVD9.
(I'm quite pleased with how these entries look; I'm going to start applying this formatting to the entries for a few other projects.)

Anyway, I'd be grateful to anyone who wants to check and correct any errors, also if someone could update the NTSC entries (& the Purist Edition) as I don't have those.

I took the basic form from whoever started the original entry on fanedits.com and made all the of other versions. I found the changes info by going through the thread and finding the post where Ady announces the final changes in each version. I've had him look over the fanedits.com, and he says they are accurate to the best of his knowledge. I like the actual screenshots of each release, I just used the master thing from the first post. I think since the PAL and NTSC versions' only difference is one subtitle track, I think we can combine it to just XVID, DVD-5, DVD-9, and PURIST. I don't think they would need different screenshots, especially the PURIST version as it has no menus and not any visual changes that screenshots would justify.

It did the same thing on my laptop. I've also noticed that the DVD9 just plays on my laptop- it won't play at all on my old iMac or on my DVD player, but the Purist DVD plays on everything. Probably due to the advancing age of my iMac and DVD player(?)

Ady,

Those who've gotten to know me in the last 2 years know that I'm no fan of the SEs. Given a choice between the SE and the Purist edition- I would far prefer watching your Purist edition.

I'm amazed at how you removed the ronto from that one scene- how DID you do that? I've watched it several times and I don't see a drop in quality- it's amazing!

I only hope that this project encourages someone, someday, to do a true purist's "purist" edition, and de-SE the entire film. You've shown that it CAN be done (and done well!)

Thanks for all your hard work.

Probably related to drive age. My DVD-ROM drive in my computer is several years old and won't read DL discs. Purist works on everything because it's a DVD-5, not DVD-9.

You can see the breakdown at Erikstormtrooper's Adywan Archive with the file "mos_eisley_mixdown_layers.zip"

You can use Photoshop, The GIMP, or something like that to view all of the layers it took for him to delete the Ronto and show what was behind it.  Absolutely awesome.

Hello,

I here am new. Just wanted to add my praise to Adywan for the amazing job he did on this. This is the best version of Star Wars I’ve seen… possibly ever… but definitely the best since 1996 and the best on DVD. It made me appreciate the original film all the more and forget about the prequels. Well, mostly.

Thanks so much for all the work you put into this and sharing it with the world. And good luck on ESB!

--Josh

PS. For the record, and I know it’s been said, but I will add again that anyone having trouble burning a DVD9 should try it again with Verbatim DL discs – I coaster’ed a couple Fujifilm discs using both Nero and ImgBurn, but had no problems with the Verbatims.

just a quick stupid question, WAY to many pages to read in this topic :)

I just downloaded the dvd-9 ntsc version, does this allready have the fix done or must is still be applied to the iso?

Depends what you're burning it with.

Nero - you're good to go.

IMGburn - apply the fix.

Other - I'm guessing same as Nero.
