Here is some info, maybe this might help. I have the most recent imgburn program and I downloaded the Star_Wars_Revisted_NTSC_DVD_5 file. It is 4.35 GB and my computer says that it is an ISO file (I have no idea what that is). I am using Imitation brand DVD-R / 16x 4.7 GB discs. My HP computer is 1 year old and can record on DVD+/- and R/RW/DL discs

When I go to imgburn, I am given the following options:
1). write image file to disc
2). creat image file from disc
3). verify disc
4). write files / folders to disc
5). creat image file from files / folders
6). discovery

Which one should I choose, and does it somehow make an ISO file into something a regular home dvd player would be able to play? My guess is it can't be that simple. I probably have to somehow convert this file, and split it into video and audio files? Is this correct?

Thanks for taking the time to answer my previoius post,
Daniel

An ISO is an image file, so you need to select option #1, "write image file to disc," and select your ISO file to be burned.

A question for you guys... I was watching the DVD9 the other day on my LG DVD player/recorder and at the beginning of the scene where Vader enters the hanger bay with the Millennium Falcon (which I believe is chapter 28, the layer break on the disc), the image pixelated and skipped ahead about 10 seconds or so. However, if I access the scene via the chapter selection screen, the image plays with no problems.

I also tried the disc on my PC's DVD player and my Philips mini-system DVD/CD player with no problem, as well as on my older JVC DVD player (which resulted only in a slight pause at the layer break, but which I believe is typical of that unit).

Anyway, my question is whether this is strictly a player-related issue, or if it possibly has something to do with the burning of the DL disc.

That sounds like a player related problem. That is the point of the layer break so maybe the LG doesn't like either the media used or the way it was burned.

what media were you using, what program did you use to burn it & if this was the version with the imgburn fix applied did you use the seamless branch option when making the new iso because this can cause a few problems in certain players at the layer break. I never use that option because of compatibility.

Funny you mention this, because my LG DVD Recorder (LG LRA-850)
ironically doesn't play DVD-R's correctly, only commercially-made DVDs and anything I record using it. I haven't tried the DVD-9 in it because I figure it wouldn't work anyway since nothing I've ever burned works in it. I don't use it for anything but recording anyway, so it's not an issue.

A DVD recorder that doesn't play recorded DVDs? That is ironic. How do they get away with that?

That's just nutty! :p I actually have a scar from a papercut. It's between my index and middle fingers. I guess it never healed properly because of where it was.

I'm planning on taking the DVD-5 I received from Sluggo to Comicon; anyone know if there will be a cast member/someone heavily involved in Star Wars there for me to give it to?

Thanks for getting back to me on the issue of the layer change problem so quickly everyone. Ady, to answer your questions, I used a Verbatim 8.5 GB DL disc, however I'm not sure what program was used to burn it (it was done on a friend's iMac, which I believe runs OS X Leopard... not sure if he used software that comes with the platform or a third party program).

Also, I did not apply the fix, as I downloaded the file from a.b.starwars and was under the impression that .iso file was ok as is.

P.S. As an English teacher, I'm digging the discussion on irony... nice to see some people actually still know what it is :)

One of my first posts here was a comment about how it's almost criminal that Adywan can't be compensated for his efforts, because that would be criminal...that's irony for ya.

That reminds me. Has anyone else watched the DVD-9 with the changes & trivia subtitles? All the typos seem fixed, but the credits seem to be ever so slightly different than on the DVD-5 because a subtitle comes up saying "That's me!" underneath Harrison Ford's name, whereas on the DVD-5 it came up under Adywan's name.
Just a heads up there, I certainly wouldn't expect Adywan to go back and redo anything else after all this work. (especially for something so minor)

And speaking of subtitles, the ONLY thing that I think could have made this DVD better is if the movie had been translated to another language and then back to English to make a "Backstroke of the West" style sub track. Bad translations amuse me to no end :)

Okay...

I've tried three times, now. The first was made burning the folders directly with nero, the last two were using a new ISO one with and one without the seemless layer option.

Nothing plays through on my Pioneer DV-414. On my Panny DVD/VCR nothing plays through the layer break, but I can skip a head and back it up to watch the rest of the film.

I am using Dynex DVD+R DL media (its all that was available when I went to the store, DL media is hard to come by).

My DVD Drive is a TSSTcorpCD/DVDW TS- L 532M

I have no firmware updates available. If I can find some other media, I'll try that, but I'm pretty upset. I guess I'll have to use the DVD-5.

I'm assuming its a player compatibility, although reports online are that my player should read DL +R fine.

The media could well be the problem but its more likely to be your DVD_RW.

Some Dynex have been known to use the same dye as Verbatim but recently there have been a lot of fakes around and ones manufactured outside of Singapore are known for being pretty crap and having compatibility problems. But you do mention that it plays up til the layer break on your panasonic but not at all in the pioneer. The pioneer should play DL-DVD+R s without problem. Check to see if it says the country of manufacture. If its singapore then you can most likely rule out the discs

One thing is that i did find a forum thread that points to the TSSTcorpCD/DVDW TS- L 532M as being the problem. It seems that its a pretty bad drive with no support even though its supposed to be a Toshiba/ Samsung collaboration drive

http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/279491

If you can you try burning one of the discs using a different burner and test it that way you'll know if its the drive or the media. My money is on your drive though

granted, it's an aggravating issue....but have you burned DL media before?
because this might impact any future burns you do..

finally, depending on where you are...can someone else burn the files
for you, or do you want a copy sent to you in the meantime?

ADYWAN,

I got the dvd-5 and dvd-9 to write onto a recordable dvd thanks to your help with imgburn. Also, I had no trouble with the layer change on the dvd-9. If I remember, you mentioned that the layer change is suppose to be after Tarken says, "terminate her, immediately"? If so, it was a very smooth change and I didn't need the fix for it.

I also wanted to tell you that watching the DVD-9 disc on my system was AMAZING! Here's what I have: A Denon 3800 Blu-ray / DVD player (the Realta chip upconverts it so well that it looks almost exactly like high definition video), A Panasonic PTAE2000 1080P Projector on an 80" screen, and the audio is being played back via a Yamaha RX-Z11 11.2 channel receiver. Needless to say, this is the best I have EVER seen or heard Star Wars. Simply, jaw dropping! Thanks again for all of your hard work and I'm looking forward to Empire Revisited.

Keep up the great work,
Daniel

Letting everybody know, I received my PAL DVD-9 from Adywan in the mail today and will be burning copies tomorrow; one is promised to Johnny Ringo but the other 2 PIF slots are still open. If anyone else in Australia or NZ would like a copy, PM me with your details and I'll probably be able to send them out on Friday.

Finially got the time to redo my copy with the fixes and it came out great! My stand alone dvd player is still a bit quirky on a couple of spots, but my PC dvd player runs it without a hitch. All I can say is fantastic job ady!! I really want to be apart of the next one!

Sorry to sound a bit (or a lot) late to the party, but can someone tell me where I might be able to find a torrent for the DVD9? I tried one site but it seems to have been pulled. How perhaps someone would be willing to send me a copy of it? Cheers!
