Well, ya learn something new every day. I've read the term "burn the ISO image to a disc" before but never really understood what it meant.

Until I poked around in Nero.

I tried to create this one the same way I did the DVD-5 - unpack the ISO with WinRAR to the hard drive, then use "Burn DVD Video files" in Nero to burn the disc. I tried selecting the ISO file in that process, but Nero wouldn't recognize it.

Tonight, I poked around in Nero and found "Burn Image to disc". THAT recognized the ISO file. I burned that to a disc thru that option in Nero - without the Imgburn fix applied - and the disc works flawlessly!

Sorry for all the confusion.

Your first clue is "My computer had to go online to look for software to use to open it". You need torrent software to download files using torrents. :)
DOWNLOAD UTORRENT

This is extremely easy to use software and it's free. This does not have to be installed. Just run it from your desktop or where ever you would like.

Agreed - use uTorrent if you have Windows, it's the best one I've used.

Something I noticed today watching Revisited with my brother:

(WARNING: Heavy film-related jargon ahead):

The couple times you added lens flares, you added flares for a standard (spherical) lens - for example (though a badly post-composited one):

http://www.stefan-thamm.com/downloads/software/images/lensflare.jpg

STAR WARS was, however, shot with an anamorphic lens rather than spherical (that's why it's in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio instead of 1.85:1), so lens flares *should* look like this:

http://www.davidmullenasc.com/logansrun1.jpg

Some 2.39:1 movies today are shot with spherical lenses as "Super 35mm" and cropped for 2.39:1 (Terminator 2, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings), and that *would* give you a round flare rather than an oval, and on movies like Blade Runner or Close Encounters effects were done with 70mm film on spherical lenses, therefore lens flares for effects shots (especially CE) are round rather than ovular. But if I remember correct, STAR WARS was shot entirely anamorphic, so all lens flares *should* be ovular.

A nitpick, to be sure, and to be honest it doesn't bother me, I just thought you might find that interesting, and you might be able to use that information when you do ESB and ROTJ. I didn't even notice it the first few times I watched it.

Also, and this isn't really related to anything in ANHR, it's just another anamorphic lens trait that might help for ESBR and ROTJR - circles of confusion (out-of-focus points of light) show up as ovals as well with an anamorphic lens instead of actual cirles:

http://www.davidmullenasc.com/bringoutdead1.jpg

As opposed to with a non-anamorphic (spherical) lens:

Still working on the DVD-9 torrent, can't wait for it to be done!

Thanks, I'll do that when I get home. Knowing my luck, something will mess up, but I guess we'll see. :P

Sorry for bothering you all with this... I've never done anything like this before, but adywan's edit really pushed me to try. :)

Yeh that sounds about right. the file size i get when i applied the patch was 7.6 Gb whereas the one i posted that didn't have the fix was 7.78gb so it sounds like that one has already had the fix applied

Ok, I got the Purist version downloaded and burned (the right way, now that I learned what I was doing wrong...sorry for the confusion, Ady) and not only does it not have the menus but it's only 48 chapters instead of 54 for the full Revisited version. Do you or someone else have a Purist chapter listing? I'm curious to see what the differences are.

Well, that torrent software says it's downloading the file, but also says that it's only .98 GB. Does that sound right?

It's trying to download, but on utorrent, under the tab "Files", and under the column "Done", not one kb is loaded! :(

The Purist version doesn't have menus and the chapter listing is different. For the purist i just added chapters at random places

OK, utorrent says the download is at 0.1%, after quite a while of waiting even for that. AND, the "ETA" is shifting between "1w 2d" and "2w 1d", and I can't help but fear that w=week and d=day...

No one could upload it to rapidshare...?

EDIT: OK, now it says about 10h (hours, I'm sure). Still a bit too long to leave my computer on for, seeing as how I have to go to sleep sometime tonight!

I've been downloading it off and on since it came on the torrents. Several days ago. You're just going to have to stick with it. And it is on Rapidshare, just not in one huge file. But that's a different kettle of fish altogether.

Yeah, torrents take quite a bit of time. Especially a 7.6-gigabyte torrent. I've been at it since the 22nd, which makes it 4 days, and I'm at 73.5% at the moment. And no, I don't download 100% continuously, and you don't have to leave your computer on for weeks at a time.

Rapidshare would require you to pay for a subscription, or you have to wait an hour or so between downloading every chunk, and there are 80 chunks for this release if I'm not mistaken. If you'd rather do it that way, I can provide you with a location with links to all 80 parts if you like.

I decided to pay for RapidShare to get the DVD9 version. The 48 hour subscription worked out to about $7 US. The 1 month works out to about $11.

On a cable modem, doing 4 files at a time, I got the whole thing in about 6 hours. When I got the DVD5 version, I did it for free (one file at a time, 2 hour downtime between them) and it took me a full week of after work periods and almost whole weekend days morning to night.

The iPod m4v file is .99 GB. It will take what it takes to get it to you since it seems I'm the only one seeding it right now. If others would help seed you will get it faster. Congrats on setting up a torrent program. "Necessity is the the mother of invention" and all that. It won't hurt your computer to leave it on.

HEYZEUS MAN! It would take less time and money to just get past the fright of learning something new and getting it from usenet. I understand though. Before I understood it seemed very daunting. Now I can't even imagine what my problem was.

Unfortunately the forum software at the moment does not have a feature to allow mods to move individual replys that were posted in the wrong thread. It's something we could do with.

Man, do I need to pay more attention to where I post. Thanks for clearing that up Moth3r. Don't know how I got Ady's thread confused with that one.

hey everyone,
small update here...

1) unless you are paying a lot for electricity,
or have a very loud computer near you (bedroom, etc)

if your computer is very modern, it WILL have the proper
cooling to leave your computer on 24/7...

i used to turn my computer off when i wasn't using it,
but now, i trust my computer to work constantly..
it's a matter of preference..

more links here : http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=should+i+leave+my+computer+on+all+the+time
(note the first link is very old, and says not too...)

my computer is basically a server,so it HAS to be on 24/7,
from the first day i got it (5 months ago), i've only turned
it off 3 times..1 to reinstall XP after vista wasn't working right.
2 after reinstalling some software....3 after i accidentally unplugged
it about a week ago..

other than that, it has been running 100% with no issues day and night..
of course downloading/seeding torrents is going on

2) yes some of the torrents are going slow right now, since i'm seeding
about 10 of them (including non-star wars stuff, music videos..and
a very cool battlestar galactica 1978-revisited fan cut!!-called the
saga of starworld, with new effects, deleted scenes etc)..

here's the status , as more people join/complete/it will go much faster,
my upload is 5Mb/or about 400k, but i am averaging 200k overall,
with about peaks of 40k-50k per torrent...

revisited
-----------------------------------------------------------
star wars DVD 9 NTSC - up (1) down (66) conn to (28) avg 30k - 79% complete
star wars MP4 - up (1) down (3) conn to (1) avg 10k - 17% complete

purist
-----------------------------------------------------------
star wars DVD 5 NTSC - up(2) down (7) conn to (2) avg 30k - 2 100% seeders
star wars 2CD AVI - up (1) down (10) conn to (5) avg 15k - 54% complete

up=uploaders
down=downloaders
avg = average rate of downloading per torrent
% complete = highest percentage of completion per user..

As I believe was mentioned within the last few pages, torrents are available both on demonoid and mininova.

Like a lot of people here, until recently I had only ever used torrents in order to download movies. I heard people talk about how great Usenet was, but:

a) I didn’t fully understand how to use it and, more importantly

b) I didn’t want to pay to use it when torrents are free.

However, as no torrent was forthcoming until just recently (thanks for remedying that, by the way, negative1), I decided to explore the realm of Usenet a little further. Ultimately, I was able to download the DVD9 from Usenet without paying a cent, and so, for those of you who wish to do the same, here’s what I did:

1. I went to Giganews.com and, using my credit card, bought the “Silver” (25 GB) monthly package for $12.99 US. What results in this being free, however, is that Giganews currently offers a 3-day, 10 GB free trial. In other words, if you download the DVD9 in less than 3 days, and download less than 10 GB (the DVD9 is only slightly above 8 GB), then as long as you go back and cancel your subscription, you don’t have to pay anything.

2. I then downloaded NewsBin Pro in order to access Usenet. I’m sure there are better newsreaders out there, but this one worked fine for me (plus, it’s free… although, as far as I know, maybe all newsreaders are free).

3. I then launched NewsBin Pro, added Giganews.com as a newsgroup (the name you have to input, I believe, is “news.giganews.com”), and then I simply searched for the alt.binaries.starwars thread.

4. Once I downloaded the headers for the thread (which are basically like a list of subject lines in an email window), I located all the DVD9 files for the version I wanted (in my case, all the subject lines having to do with the “DVD9 NTSC” version). I then created a folder to save the files in, clicked on all the appropriate files, and NewsBin Pro queued them all for download (the download took only a few hours over a cable connection… went to bed at about 12:30 am and they were done by the time I left for work the next morning at 7:00 am).

5. Once all the files were downloaded, I had a folder full of .rar files, .par2 files, and an .nfo file. I then downloaded the program QuickPar, which I used to check all the .par2 files (essentially, the program uses the .par2 files to verify that everything was downloaded correctly).

6. Once QuickPar verified everything was okay, I unpacked the .rar files using WinRAR, which resulted in an image (.iso) file being created, which is what you ultimately burn onto the DVD using your software of choice (I myself used Nero).

Note: if you want to verify the file works properly before burning, or if you don’t yet have a dual layer DVD burner or disc, you can use DAEMON tools to virtually “mount” the image (basically, it makes your computer think you have an additional disc drive with a disc loaded in it). Once mounted, you can then use your preferred media software to open and view the movie.

7. Finally, once everything had been downloaded and I saw that the movie was working properly, I went back to Giganews and discontinued my service. The whole process took less than a day, and, best of all, was free.

All said and done, I can see why Usenet is so appealing – it’s very quick and relatively easy. On the downside, unless there are a lot of other things you’re looking to download, or if you can’t take advantage of any free trials, I still sympathize with those who’d rather go the slower (but free) torrent route.

Hope this helps some of you fellow Usenet newbies out. Thanks, too, to all the forum members who posted similar tutorials and/or who pointed me towards the appropriate literature so I could learn more (such as Slyck's guide to newsgroups).

One last comment (though it should go without saying)...

Thank you, Adywan, for all your hard work... it is appreciated more than words can express.
