I could use a DVD recorder to record off digital satellite or cable. It wouldn't be as ideal as a pure digital capture (e.g. from someone with a Topfield box or DVB-T/S capture card), but connections are analogue RGB via SCART, so the quality would be reasonable.

Do you know during what programme the ad will be aired?

(Also, might be better to have someone else as back up, because I'm notoriosuly bad at remembering to record things...)

I'll see if I can get a high-quality DVD-R cap as well, though bear in mind the TV version may well be cut-down, and the full one will be for cinema release only.

Also a link with some credits for the ad here, as well as potentially a link to download it for $5 (I haven't tried it yet) - http://bestadsontv.com/ad_details.php?id=13558

Hi,

Don't mind if it's cut down, to have the TV premier would be EXCELLENT. I don't know the exact time, someone should contact BT directly for that:

http://www.btplc.com/Thegroup/ContactBT/feedback.cfm

They have toll free numbers so I can assume they should be able to answer that there.

Still looking for that ED .mp3 to give you by the way, djsmokingjam.....

Has anyone actually seen the ad on UK TV? I've had no luck in capturing it yet, I'm afraid.

I caught the end of it on FilmFour once, but otherwise no, it's been a mystery!

Good news - I managed to capture the Gremlins TV ad on my DVD recorder last night.
Bad news - it is the cut down version.

Do you still want it?

A couple of big billboard ads of Peter Jones against a white background with the Gremlins have popped up not far from my house - I don't have a digital camera to capture them though. Hopefully they'll pop up online.

Moth3r,

That's fine, it'll be good to have the two versions of the advert anyways.

djsmokingjam,

Do you know anyone who DOES have a digital camera that could either take the pictures for you or loan you the camera to do so? I'm even willing to accept normal pictures since I have a scanner.

Oh boy! It's been a crazy time for me the past few weeks and I'm still trying to get everything back in order. I've got some updates on things we've acquired for this set, but I'll save the specifics for another upcoming post. I'm using this post to give all of you out there a chance to hear what's up with the read-along transfers. Yep....you read correctly; to HEAR what's up with the read-along transfers. So I present to you a SAMPLE .mp3 which has the same section of audio from THE GIFT OF THE MOGWAI presented in 4 different ways. There's a short bit of silence after each sample finishes before the next sample begins.

First, here's the link to download the .mp3 to listen to:

http://rapidshare.com/files/118375275/Gremlins_Read-along_examples.mp3

Below is a brief description of each of the 4 ways the section of audio from THE GIFT OF THE MOGWAI and how it is relevant to the project's developement:

Sample 1) The first transfer that I did with the original set of used read-alongs that I did. This is the unedited version, and you can hear the amount of noise that I was dealing with at the time.

Sample 2) This is the first “clean-up” attempt, and ironically…the best sounding out of all the other various versions I tried. You can still hear a pretty good level of noise in there. I can only attribute it to the fact that the read-along records had been played enough that the grooves have become wider and a bit warped over the various multiple plays. You can hear the SCCCCCCCRRRRRRR sound at a consistent precise moments during playback that you could almost set your watch to.

Sample 3) This is the unedited version of the newer, SEALED read-alongs which had never been played until I made the transfer to the computer. The first thing you’ll notice is that the noise level is between a half and two-thirds LESS than the older, used read-alongs. This also makes the actual recording contained on the records seem louder and clearer right from the get-go.

Sample 4) This is the first “clean-up” of the newer, SEALED read-along transfer. Beyond the initial “needle hitting the record” sound and one other SCCCCCCRRRRR sound (try to find it, it’s hidden well enough the ears almost forgive it). I’m using earphones and the sound is quite direct so I can hear some of the digital clean-up noise as I wear them…but then again since I’ve studied sound production I’m aware that to a degree I’m just being “picky.” How I know it is that I don’t hear the same problem when they come out of my actual speakers.

Please, those of you who have taken time to listen to the samples it would be GREAT to have some feedback to hear what your opinions/comments/suggestion are.

Ok, MAJOR KICK-ASS update! Between the two of us, we've acquired:

• TNT’s MonsterVision with Joe Bob Briggs Christmas Special. – Gremlins
• Gremlins – A New Friend (Golden Books)
• Gremlins 2 – Movie Storybook (Golden Books)
• Gremlins 2 – Don’t Get Wet (Buzz Books)
• Gremlins 2 – Gizmo's Escape (Golden Books)
• Gremlins 2 – Gizmo To The Rescue (Golden Books)
• Mad Magazine #269 Sept. 1984 – GREMLINS parody
• BT TV advert featuring Gremlins

BUT WAIT!!!! THERE'S MORE!

While trying to get a video play-through capture of the GREMLNS 2 Game Boy game, I stumbled across a very talented AND knowledgeable person who not only knows loads about all things GREMLINS, but is working on a VERY special Gremlins project of his own. May I present to you Bat Gremlin's Alternative film sequence for the DVD version of GREMLINS 2:

http://myspacetv.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoid=2115100045

It's meant to occur when the film "breaks" but instead would have the Gremlins "controlling" your DVD viewing and hopping through several classic films...wrecking havoc as usual. Now, I've mentioned the forum to him and he's agreed he will join up so that he can help discuss his project at length. He's also given me permission to post these dossier pages his already written up discussing the basics of why he started this, who he is and why he loves GREMLINS so much (CLICK ON LINKS TO VIEW):

Within the next few days, he'll be joining the forum so anyone wanting to discuss his independent project will be able to talk with him directly. He also has his contact information included on the pages of the dossier for those wishing to already give him direct feedback concerning the hard work and effort that he has put into his independent project (he made each of the creatures himself, each of which takes 3 days total to make and roughly $100 in material costs per creature)OR any of his other projects you can view at the myspace link. And let me tell you, this is EXCITING news to this project because although his fan sequence was done independently of ours....he is willing to contribute it directly to this project, amongst other possible contributions which we will NOT divulge at this time!

Fellow forum members, this project has gone from zero to Adywan in the course of a few e-mails!

OK, we're currently working on getting a trailer together, and toying with some new dialog and sound effects that we'll need for the edits in the future. This involves new gremlins sounds for new shots, and some reworking of old shots. I've posted a link below that has 3 files in it. These are early tests. One is a clip of Brain Gremlin, another of Stripe, and the 3rd is a rough mix of the trailer audio. The trailer audio needs some work yet, particularly in the voice over. We (mostly IWM right now) are making some adjustments now, to speed, and levels, but would love feedback from everybody interested. Let us know how the gremlins sound, and any suggestions for the trailer mix. Thanks :)

Did you ever manage to get photos of those billboards?

The BT Business/Gremlins ad campaign is also running a radio commercial. I heard it this morning, wasn't too impressed.

The billboards in my area got taken down before I had a chance to photograph them. And the one time I did try to photograph them, the sun was shining so bright it completely flared out the camera. Bloody English weather! Sorry guys.
