Yeah, I'm probably going to have to torrent the new episodes when they come out; I don't know if I can't wait that long (BBC America has just now started airing Season 3!)

Well, I just read an article saying that Sci Fi Channel will be airing Season four in April. Now I won't have to wait! I can actually see them when the rest of the world does!

And I danced.

EDIT: I also managed to find a torrent of the 1996 TV movie, which I didn't really have a choice with since Fox hasn't actually released a Region 1 DVD, and probably won't. Fools.

(Also, I've managed to find downloads of every complete episode (not counting the lost ones) except for the Sylvester McCoy years. Anyone think they could help me out?)

Why are you calling it series 4 instead of season 4? I've never understood why England does it that way.

deleted, I think I went too far.

Well, TV in the UK isn't like TV here. Over here, by the time a show gets to it's 100th episode or its 3rd or 4th season, it's just getting going. In the UK, though, it's pretty commonplace for a show to have only two or three "series" of about 6 or 7 episodes, and then that'll be the end of it. Take "The Office", for instance. Thanks to the US version, it's one of the best known British shows over here (even if people haven't seen it, they still know about it), but it still only has 2 series of about 7 episodes each, along with 2 Christmas specials.

Doctor Who has always been an exception to the rule though. It ran from 1963 to 1989, then there was a TV movie in 1996, and then they revived the show in 2005. I guess really it'll be something like season 28 or something like that, but it's labeled Series 4 of the "new" series.

That actually wasn't a bad movie - it was a bit to Americanised for my liking but Paul McGann was pretty good as the Doctor, I liked his look and I also liked how the TARDIS changed with him to have chandeliers and a staircase and stuff.

Nanner, you seem to be on a bit of a doctor who fix trip right now so maybe you should check out the Flash animations that are out there starring Richard E Grant as the doctor. I think they're on the BBC website but you can just google it. They're not bad.

I'm pretty much the same way regarding the TV movie: it felt a bit too much like Doctor Who meets The X-Files, but Paul McGann was a good enough Doctor to bring it up a few notches (he was plenty better than Colin Baker.....blech!). And I couldn't help but think that no matter how cheesy it was, I'd still choose it over Torchwood any day (or that Bad Wolf arc from the first new series for that matter).

Oh, and I have watched some of the animated shorts. Not bad.

So I take it you don't have a multi-region DVD player yet? I only have two PAL DVD's so far. I recommend getting an Oppo player, preferrably the 980 or 981, whichever has HDMI out and the Faroujda chip. I only have the 971H but you get far more for your price compared to a cheapo multi-region player. Oh, and the PAL-to-NTSC conversion is excellent.
I've only used one online store so far for purchasing UK PAL DVD's which is SendIt.com. Be sure to put whichever DVD isn't currently in stock in your wishlist and the ones you do wanna buy immediately in your cart. There're also great prices on Amazon.co.uk and I'm sure you can find the Paul McGann TV movie there. I'm also looking at purchasing it.

Normally I would, but I'm currently a college student with no money, so.....

Also, do you have any idea how many old Doctor Who stories there are? 159. That's not counting the TV movie and the 3 (soon to be 4) new series. That's a lotta money! Plus, if I wanted to be a completist, I could also try and pick up the two movies made in the 60s starring Peter Cushing.

Maybe by the time I can afford it, they'll have released the stories in Blu-Ray packs, so I won't have to worry about the region thing quite as much.

I'm really looking forward to it this year. Last season was pretty good, so if this is anything like season 3, it should be bloody great.

Here's the cinema trailer thingy....

Season premier over here is Friday, 18th April at 7:30 CST!

Only reason I don't like watching it on Sci-Fi channel is that it's all cut up to accommodate for commercials. So each episode ends up being a full hour.

Anyone else hear the rumor that Davros is making a comeback in this series? I'm not sure if I'm excited about that or not. It'd be nice if they actually tried to come up with new ideas as opposed to just going back to the old shows and bringing shit back all the time. I could do without having another Dalek episode, to be quite honest.

And by the way, does anyone else find Captain Jack Harkness as annoying as I do?

In one of the trailers there is a sneak peak at Davros...if you look closely

He's in there at about 57 secs....on the below linky

Personally, the Daleks are pretty dull. I don't get how they still turn up. Whenever they do, they claim to be the last of the Daleks or whatever, but they always come back. Maybe I missed something!!
And that Human Dalek thing last year was one of the poorer moments of what was a pretty good season.

Yeah, I thought that two-part Manhattan story was possibly the worst out of all three seasons (worse than Love and Monsters, even!).

It's not davros, it's a Sontaran. They appear in episode 4, The Sontaran Stratagem. Fan's of the older series will remember them.
There haven't been any pics leaked of Davros yet, and they are still denying that he is going to be in the new series, but the daleks do return in the series finales so it's looking more likely that he may return.

Oh well...wtf do I know about Dr Who...nowt!!

Still, more bloody Daleks and now Billy 'I'm so overrated' Piper is back. It'll be just like season 1 again...which i didn't like too much, mainly for the fact that I could get used to Eccleston as the Doctor.

Actually bollox to what I just said...I think this is going to be very entertaining, which is just what you need at 7.00pm on a Saturday night.

I dunno, I thought Billie Piper was pretty annoying during season 1 (not to mention more than a little bit chavvy) but she got better during season 2. That being said though, I think bringing her back would be a bit of a cop-out; just another example of the show's writers just wanting to bring back old stuff to please the fans as opposed to coming up with fresh ideas (which is why I loved Steven Moffat's episodes so much: "The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances", "The Girl in the Fireplace", "Blink").

For those that feel that Piper was annoying, does anyone think that Catherine "I'm gonna scream all the time 'cause it's funny when I do it" Tate is going to be any better?

Well Saturdays new episode was ok. It was not brilliant, but it done what it set out to do, start the season on a high, happy note. I've read that this season is going to be much darker in tone which can only be a good thing.

Catherine Tate was actually not that annoining. It's just that you can't help but notice some of her characters from her comedy show peeking through into her acting. You do expect her to say something like "what a f**king liberty" or what not, but on the whole she was ok, not half as bad as the Christmas special a few years back.
The little 'fat' monsters were just to cute, and the villain wasn't really that, but being the season opener it really was just a case of bringing the Dr and Donna together again.
There was a nice surprise at the end though, which I won't give away.

An ok-ish episode, but not the Wow we were led to believe with all the hype and interviews we had in the last week.

Next week the Rome episode.

Well, first episode was all right (had to watch it online, it's not gonna air on this side of the pond for another two weeks), but what was up with the opening theme? Rubbish compared to the last three seasons, if you ask me.

Billie's coming back? Permanently or just for a one-off?

She's f*cking hot :)

Well she was confirmed to be in the last episode, along with Freema, but as those who watched the first episode the other night, not is all as they seem.

According to something I read or saw on tv, the story arc starts from the first episode and little bits start to show throughout the season, building to the climax which normally is the last 3 episodes. Or something like that.

Well here's some spoilers for the finale gathered from what is gathered from on set reports. Highlight to read:
Spoiler:
Episode titles:
# 1. Partners in Crime
# 2. The Fires of Pompeii
# 3. Planet of the Ood
# 4. The Sontaran Stratagem
# 5. The Poison Sky
# 6. The Doctors Daughter
# 7. The Unicorn & The Wasp
# 8. Silence in the Library
# 9. The Forest of the Dead
# 10. Midnight
# 11. Turn Left
# 12. Unconfirmed (The BBC are holding the title of this one back because it is supposed to give too much away but it is rumoured to be War on Skaro, which has come from a reliable source, or The Time War)
# 13. Journey's End

The finale is a 3 part story arc. The Daleks are back and have invaded Earth. Davros is rumoured to be appearing. Cast members confirmed for the finale are: Martha, Rose, Capt Jack, Mickey, Jackie & Sarah Jane Smith. There is a regeneration in the series although it may not be the Doctor. The doctor is badly injured and the companions have to come together to save him. On set photos and video show the doctor getting hit (most likely by a dalek laser) and falling to the ground & billy leaning over his lifeless body then capt Jack shouting " we have to get him back to the TARDIS". The Doctor has a daughter (played by the real life daughter of Ex-Doctor Peter Davidson) There will be a shock revelation about Donna & the Doctor (or someone else)will have to erase her memories. Clues will be in almost every episode about the finale. Clues in episode 1 seem to be the sticker on the Taxis that read "ATMOS" and about the bees disappearing.

This looks to be a good season. I love the new theme music and Catherine Tate looks to become a great companion (even though at the end she started going into Nan).
