No probs - I'm sure plenty of people here seeded it, and will do with this one.

Crikes - I really can't wait to see this again in even better quality!

Cool. So, the obvious questions next...

How different in quality will the PAL version be from the NTSC?

Will there be any point in NTSC users converting the PAL version to their format to watch (rather than waiting for you to do it)?

PAL DVDs won't play in most NTSC rack DVD players, there are region free DVD players but most people in NTSC land don't have those.

cbaka,

I don't know who provides your Usenet access - however I had the same problem going through my ISP's (Virgin Media) newsgroup access. But on checking through Astraweb - who I also use (pre-pay) and the files are there.

So you may need to try another Usenet provider.....

Here's a very quick, rough mockup of discart for those who desire it. The DS is not very good res, since I'm screen cap-ing it off the avi on my computer. Ady, any way I could get a higher-res of this shot of the DS?

this is a small, lo-res mockup, not intended to a downloadable graphic yet

I wanted to go very minimalist with wording. in fact, if I used disc art I would do this without any words at all

thoughts?

But Ady posted trailers I have been able to watch in the PAL format I do believe. Which is it, can NTSC people watch the PAL format if they burn this to DVD? I

For the millionth time: no NTSC players can't play PAL, just wait a week or so for the NTSC version to come out. It will look better than a conversion you did yourself.
Before you ask: yes you can play PAL on your pc, just not on your tv.
(unless it supports PAL of course)

In my opinion, unless you have absolutely no patience, you whould just wait a week for the NTSC version. Converting the PAL version will be a pain, and you'll still have the audio speedup (if that bothers you).

Yawn,......

You seriously need to calm down and relax. You also might want to educate yourself a little on the whole PAL/NTSC thing.....Google comes to mind.

I vote to keep it as is, but with the hi-res artwork of course....I like the look of the title on there.

Actually, the DVD regions are different from the NTSC PAL differences. The regions are put in place to unethically (IMHO) keep people from playing discs they bought from regions other than their own. For example, Battlestar Galactica season 3 was released in the UK before it was in the US. The DVD companies don't want someone buying it in the UK and bringing it home to US, where they will not buy it when it is finally released locally. Any DVD you burn yourself will be region free, but the format of the video itself will still either follow PAL or NTSC standards. With my Philips DVD player, and my Emerson TV (both bought from Wal-Mart here in the USA, no modifications made) I have absolutely no problems watching my PAL DVDs.

I lived in DVD Region 2 land for a while so many of my movies are PAL, my player will not play my commercially purchased movies because they are region encoded to R2 but my DVD player is an R1 player. In the past my solution to this was to make a DVD-R copy of the disc, effectively removing the region encoding. While they are still in PAL format they play just fine on my American DVD player. However, I loaned a couple to my parents one time and their DVD player could play it, but their TV screen couldn't display the PAL signal. My cousins Sony DVD player will just outright say that the disc is in the wrong format.

Some DVD players, like the old Apex units used to have an option in the menu for changing the signal to NTSC or PAL. Back before my Apex died it seemed to be able to play PAL format discs on any TV I have ever hooked it up too.

So, as far as being able to watch the PAL version of Revisited on your DVD player, it really depends on whether or not your both your DVD player and TV can handle it. If they are a cheap TV and DVD player, I wouldn't be surprised if it worked just fine. If they are top of the line, Sony brand, or anything like that, I'd say your chances are slim. If you can get it from a.b.star.wars and don't have a limit on how much you can pull off of news groups, why not get the PAL version, and try it out. At the very least you can watch it on your computer, then you can just download the NTSC version when it comes out and toss the PAL one away.

Hope this gives a more detailed answer to those who are feeling a bit confused about this.

That's a cool idea for the disk art!

And for those interested (professa adyfan), I'll take the question about how the 3D stuff was done as that was in my ballpark for revisited. The 3D mesh of the DS 'plans' took me over a month to model, was done in LightWave, and the various anims using that mesh on off-and-on over the next seven months!

In regards to giving 3D software a try, just letting you know that it's cool, but not something you'll pick up in a day or two. Every aspect of it is pretty painstaking, from modeling to texturing, to rendering (and animation). It's too much to go into here. If you're interested in the how-to's, just google for "LightWave" or any of the other more widely-used-currently 3D apps (3D Max, Maya, Cinema 4D, on and on). There are many forums/websites full of people doing 3D with these programs, most of the posts on those forums being WIP threads where you can see how they get to the goal (I don't want to derail this thread into the techniques of modeling in LightWave).

LightWave = fun times with gfx for me 😃

Just saw yours Ady, and that one rocks too!

One cool middle-ground I think would be the anim frame that OBtwosy used, but with the camera shifted up to the angle that you used, Ady, re-render it out like that, best of both worlds kind of. Just a thought for you guys.

Sorry OBtwosy, but Adywan's is better....mainly because of the HI-res art but the angle of the picture is better too.....its funny that both you guys almost made identical labels, I guess great minds think alike after all....

Ady,

I was going to say to Obytwosy that you probably have the same label design, but I didn't want to be right...lol...

I hope you are still going to post your rendering as well. Don't trash it...

It doesn't show up on Virgin Media because Ady posted to a.b.dvdr, and crossposted to a.b.starwars. Since the free service offered by VM doesn't carry the high traffic groups (a.b.dvdr being one of them) the posts were dropped.

@Ady: as a VirginMedia customer myself, I'd be grateful if, when you post the DVD9, you put a.b.starwars first in the group list.

AWESOME! Don't you dare start over!

I'll be using Ady's! Mine can be scrapped since I wasn't planning to do disc art anyway.

Great minds....

I say we go with Ady's!

as another VirginMedia customer I'd like to second this request, I'm not so bothered about the DVD5 as long as I can get the DVD9 on the newsgroups.

Love the disc art.
