yet another reason why PIF DOES NOT work!

Adywan will upload to newsgroups and if he wanted to,he should send out to trusted and knowledgeable uploaders, this way everyone gets the exact same thing.

I have said it once, and I will say it again,PIF does NOT work,to many people NOT knowing how to properly rip the DVD's and to properly torrent them, and then you have the just plain ass liars that say they will participate but DONT!

this is why I ditched the whole PIF thing years ago.

MoveAlong, I just learned what a JACKET_P folder is and does. I've noticed a few, and I've probably deleted them because they didn't seem functional. For that I apologize --- it's not my place to modify someone else's work, even for my own collection.

It wasn't until your remark that I bothered to Google "jacket_p" and learn that there's functionality I never dreamed of.

At the very least I've learned something important, and I'll be watching for its effect in different players.

I'll bite, and flame you for that comment.

You can modify anything you darn well please for your own collection -- just don't omit this fact if you later decide to pass it along!

Hi! I just wanted to add a quick comment on the discussion involving dual-layer discs. Something I haven't seen mentioned yet is the reliability of blank dual-layer media. From my experience with burning dual-layer discs, they are somewhat unreliable. I almost never have a burn fail, but the few times it happened, it was with dual-layer media. In fact, 2 out of a package of 5 failed during burning. Also, I generally use Verbatim, and scan my discs after burning using Nero disc speed. My burner does an exceptional job with Verbatim discs. However, dual-layer discs, even Verbatims, do not fare well when scanning - error rates are substantially higher. I just wanted people to consider this when deciding which version to burn. I myself am looking forward to the DVD-9 version of Adywan's release, but I almost never use DVD-9s. It would be a shame to lose the extras that Adywan is creating, but I think sometimes reliabilty is sacrificed when using DL discs.

Back to the main topic, Adywan, I'm glad to hear that you have solved your computer woes. It's too bad that some people are giving you a hard time over this project. I'm pretty sure none of them have half the talent that you do. I'm definitely waiting anxiously for the DVDs.

Burn at a slower speed or buy a new burner. I burn to DVD-DL discs all the time and never have errors on disc.

I love everybody. Lets all smoke some reefer and chill. Hug and kisses for everybody.

It also depends on the media you are using. A lot of people think that if you buy Verbatim that you are going to have a reliable disc. well this isn't the case. It all depends on where the discs were manufactured. if they were manufactured in Singapore then the chance that you have good quality discs is high but many are now manufactured in India and they are horrible discs. Many shops & sites now stock the India manufactured discs due to the fact that they are slightly cheaper. I won't touch these discs. Buy the discs from a place that you can find out the country of origin before you buy ( SVP here in the Uk is one example). I also won't touch any Ritek dye based discs. The dye is horrible. Even though when scanning the disc you will get good results they don't last long. I'm not saying all degrade as fast as others but again its hit and miss on the dye used. I have discs that are now unreadable that were recorded less than a 2 years ago and some never played but are now unreadable. Cheap discs may look good if you're on a budget but you do get what you pay for.

Anyway, back to the edit. I'm almost finished. Just a few tweaks on the structure and the PAL DVD-5 is done. The ESB trailer on the DVD will be slightly different than the one posted in my ESB REVISITED thread. I have tweaked the Emperor. His hood has been replaced with the one from ROTJ and he looks so much better now. This weekend will definitely see the DVD appear

Will the compression of the actual film be the same on dvd-5 and dvd-9?
In which case surely we could all just make a disc 2 (dvd-5)

Once again adywan thanks for all the hard work, im most excited for this weekend.
Hopefully it will be up on torrent (i use piratebay)

The various arguments notwithstanding, I still offer to PIF the NTSC DVD-9 when it is available. For the record, I only use Taiyo Yuden media (available from American Digital), I do a full image copy using ImgBurn, and I burn at 4x. If anyone can recommend any refinements to my technique between now and the time the disc becomes available, I'm more than happy to entertain them.

no it won't be. the average bitrate for the movie on the DVD-5 is 4200 whereas on the DVD-9 it is 6500

Hi all!

First of all, thank you very much for the incredible version, Adywan

This is my first message, though I read you every day since the XviD version is available. I'm writing from Spain, and I'd downloaded the XviD version from Rapidshare. Will I be able to download the DVD5 version from Rapidshare too?

I can't understand at all how PIF works... and the only form that i can have this version is from Rapidshare.

Excuse my english... please

Saludos,

AFAIK, the only dual-layer disc Taiyo Yuden makes is DVD-R DL. I've heard that dual layer -R discs should not be used for DVD-video (something to do with setting the layer break).

I stand corrected... I confused my single-layer DVDs with my duals. On further review, I do use TY for single layer, but I use Verbatim +R for DL. My apologies, I'm at work and was going by memory.

watched it again last night Ady on a 156" projection system. pretty good quality from my quick avi to DVD transfer, but the DVD5 & DVD9 will be amazing I'm sure.

Obviously, I'm in no way asking you to correct these next bits, but thought I would throw them out there. And perhps I missed a post saying whether these have been changed....

A friend who was there is part of the 501st Stormtrooper group here and noticed a coupel stormtrooper issues -
- the ST who says of Leia "she'll be alright" after stunning her has been missing his grey stripes on his helmet (by the "breathing tube" section on the side) ever since 1977 original
- the ST who talks to Luke & Ben as they enter Mos Eisley. His black stripe above the eyes is more of a slight "frown" than straight across. I'll try and post pics later, as I'm already late to work

Beyond those 2 silly little things, the guys I showed it to LOVED it - audible gasps. I had to refrain from blurting out, "now watch this!"

I know it's been a source of controversy here, and I'm not seeking to open that can again, but they really liked the addition of the music during the duel, as well as the Emperor's theme in the conference room.

There are too many things they really liked to mention here, but all this to say, "Well done!"

I live in the US, so do I need to wait for the NTSC version? I will be able to put this on a DVD-5 with no problem using DVD FLICK? This version you put will have those extra 4 or so tweaks you did?
Please, no flaming, I'll be the first to say I am ignorant of such things.

I think that ady has already addressed the issue of the trooper with no stripes on his helmet, and said that it would just be too difficult to do.

Now, regarding the trooper with the raised brow on his helmet. This is known as the 'Move Along' trooper helmet, and a lot of replica trooper prop collectors try to capture the look of this particular helmet. I, along with many others, feel that it doen't need altering at all.

Is there a higher quality version of this cover available? This one has a lot of jpeg compression artifacts. Just curious!

So, DVD-5 this weekend? Well now... isn't that exciting.

Yeh, i just checked it out and it does suffer badly from compression artifacts. Is there any chance you could post a different version with the jpeg compression setting set to maximum & possibly with higher res too, unless that is the res that you worked on. It would be a shame to have such a good cover in poor quality.
