Raiders of the Lost Ark - Story LP (Released)

Hi there folks!

Wondered if anyone would be interested in the recordings I have made of the original 1981 Story LP of Raiders of the Lost Ark? I’d love to see this used in the same manner as the LPs for Move Along’s Story of Star Wars DVDs. The sound quality is awsome (better than then in the films themselves!) and contains many alternative dialogue takes, and sound effects.

The recording has been made using top quality equipment (for those interested Garrard 401 turntable, Rega RB250 tone-arm, Goldring 1042 cartridge, Creek phonostage -> Edirol UA-1EX, Sony Vaio, Adobe Audition). I will also be transferring all the Story of Star Wars LPs, and also Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom Story LP.

Anyone interested in using these please contact me.

Cheers,

SeventiesFilmNut

you can count me in for all of the titles mentioned, I know the Story of Star Wars lps have been posted on the alt.binaries. starwars newsgroups a few weeks ago but I've given up in frustration trying to figure out how to access newsgroups.

I guess with all the trouble you're going to to capture them using the best quality equipment, you probably intend to keep them in a lossless format, but i'd be eternally greatful if you made them available as high bit-rate mp3's via torrent or rapidshare?

I'm not sure how to post these things onto rapid share yet. Perhaps once I'm done transferring the other titles onto the PC I can send a DVD containing the lossless files and high bitrate MP3s out to someone and they can take care of that side of things?

Sounds very awesome! So, no one does wav files anymore?

I do wave files, and this is what I shall send out on DVD, or Apple Lossless.

In the middle of moving back to London so the other records may take a month or two for me to do, but i shall post when they're all done. I did think of doing some clean up work to them, but I kind of like the odd bit of vinyl crackle

Thanks for the offer of using ur rapidshare account Throwngncpr - I'll be in touch!!!

I had made copies of mine as well already (including the 7" versions) of all 3 movies and was going to torrent them.

You might want to consider FLAC as that seems to be the universal lossless audio format that's open source. I personally prefer APE (Monkey's Audio) as it compresses better, but some people seem to have difficulty locating the decoders on other platforms despite them being available.

For something that's going to be on a DVD, wav would be nice. Why compress it to anything, when you can just leave it be.

I'm getting a Rega P2 soon, so I can hook it up to my Pioneer Elite PDR-99 CD recorder. I've got a nice preamp, so it should make some pretty damn nice recordings. If anyone in the central states needs a record copied for a project, I'll be set up soon.

well, the lossless codecs dont compress the actual audio, but help with the file size, thats the reason for it. You are still getting lossless audio, but people have slightly less to download. Though, I am up for any lossless, whether it is wav, flac, ape, whatever

For lossless compression the audio data is still compressed, but when you uncompress the data is identical to the source. You can save 50% of file size by using APE. Since most people will get these files over the internet, half the time will be saved for everyone when using lossless compression.

oic. I'm still not (and will probably never be) convinced that something isn't lost in the process. But then again, I buy most of my music on vinyl, so what the hell do I know.

Well, it's very easy to determine if the data has been altered, just compare the source and the extracted destination file. The best way to describe lossless audio compression is it's like ZIP for audio, but it compresses audio at a much better rate. I mean ZIP is lossless and you should trust that compression algorithm.

Indeed, if you use WinZip 11 to zip a .wav file, it uses the WavPack compression algorithms.

I used WavPack to pack the SW mono mix for distribution - after Darth Mallwalker pointed out that FLAC, although it compresess the audio data losslessly, sometimes changes meta data in the wav file header.

That's what I was waiting to hear.

Yeah MoveAlong and I discussed this some time ago. Raiders is pretty much impossible. THere's no narration whatsoever and dialogue is all over the place to make up for it.

Hi Folks!

Sorry haven't replied for a while been without the internet after a move onto a houseboat!!! (the things one does for their other 'arfs! Lol!!!)

I will be sending out the untouched WAV master files for Raiders to MoveAlong asap, and hopefully after that it should appear online.

Will keep you posted!
