That's a great scene from Star Wars that gives fans an idea of the excellent clarity and detail that the X0 Project transfer/preservation has in the video completed so far, and that the whole movie is going to have when it's released! Can't wait to sit down and watch this on our t.v. with the stereo system cranked up!

The Star Wars trilogy. There can be only one.

Hey, StrangeLove, have you considered letting us see the real, hi-res thing, or is it gone forever? Your ROTJ one was pretty good too.[/IMG]

That Luke cover isn't mine-- Arnie.d did that one. I never made HQ comps of my cover mockups, but I may go ahead and take a crack at it now. I need an X0-style logo to replace the Criterion header though. Thanks for the compliment!

You're welcome. Hey X0 guys, got a logo he can use?

Wow, between X0 and "Star Wars Revisited" it looks like fans of the first movie are about covered!

Lucas couldn't give us the goods, but you guys will... and it'll be worth waiting for.

Keep up the great work! Just think... three years ago I had no idea this kind of thing even existed. My (fanboy) world has been enlarged!

What's the word with the X0project? Any developments/progress being made? How's Laserman doing?

LOL!

I'm way excited for this, and have never waned in my belief that someday x0 will supply my HD projector's need for a good copy of the OOT.

With Hi Def getting more and more popular, I think there is less and less demand for a standard-def version of the original trilogy that is, at best, 20 or 25% better than the one already released on DVD.

I know there is a long, drawn out war between those who are dying to see X0 and those who don't care anymore, but I really believe with every passing month more and more people don't care.

Before the GOUT was released, X0 was in very high demand.

After GOUT, interest waned but people still wanted to see a more accurate version on DVD.

Now that the OT is being seen in HD (albeit the special editions), interest in further, incremental improvements on the OT on DVD is even less in demand.

And, of course, there is always the possibility that Luca$ will release the OT himself in HD.

On the other hand, the XO team has learned a LOT about video clean up and preservation and it would be a shame to see those skills go to waste... there are still a fair number of films that are on laser disc that have never seen a DVD release, any most likely never will.

THOSE movies would greatly benefit from the X0 team's attention!

No offense taken. I know you guys have been waiting a long time. To be honest, it's been difficult making myself go back to ANH and cleaning it frame by frame. It's definitely something I want to do, but with everything else going on, it's hard to find the daily motivation. It is tedious, almost mindnumbing work.

I'll be on vacation next month, so it'll be a little easier to stay up late and work on it.

I don't think the demand for this has really gone down. I think that people have just been fooled by the GOUT, and are just exasperated waiting for George to do the right thing. Sure, the "limited edition bonus disc" trilogy is better than the Quality Broth release I picked up on Suprnova 4 years ago, and it's probably better than most of the other Star Wars fan preservations. But come on, is that really the best that they could do?

Now I am not a guy that couldn't go on living without a PERFECT, HD copy of Star Wars, even though it is one of my top films of all time. But I'll be god-damned if that comparison shot between the GOUT and X0 didn't get me all dewy.

So, sure. Maybe in 10 years when HD has run its course, HVD is taking over, and George L. finally puts out the OUT on Blu-Ray in the last dying days of said format, I'll be able to get rid of my X0 disc. But until then, I'll wait patiently for the day when my X0 disc shows up, and I can slide it into my PS3, to view some cleaned up, anamorphic, cleaned up Star Wars goodness on 98 inches of HD love.

Thanks for all your work guys.

<3 X0 lolcats!

I expect it will be a long time before we see the OOT in HD, if indeed ever (the closest we'll get will be a fan recreation such as PaulisDead2221's Vintage Edit). And anyone who's examined the GOUT in detail, or tried to improve it, will know that some of the flaws of that DVD are irrepairable.

That is why we need a preservation that combines the best available laserdisc sources. Maybe I'll start Moth3r V2.0 this year.

Actually, as much as we all love ANH, I think I have ANH overload; most of the Star Wars projects involve it.

Personally, I'd rather see an X0 version of EMPIRE; it's arguably the best of all SW movies and it deserves more attention!

Let's make 2009 the year we make any new ANH projects illegal :-)

Actually, I can't wait to get to ESB and ROTJ as well. They won't need nearly as much fixing. Maybe we should have started with ESB....

I had no idea that the X0 team was so cute. I want to scratch MeBe behind the ears. Soon as you guys finish, you get treats!

Seriously, I'd love to see a bit more work with ROTJ than another ANH. With the GOUT, Ady's and DE's versions, plus Paulisdead's version, I'm good on ANH for a long while.

This might have been answered in the last 90 pages, many years ago, but I've quite forgotten so I hope nobody will feed me to wolves for asking again.

If this project is so time-consuming and tedious, why not recruit and train a few people to help? Would it be possible to cut the movie into bite-sized chunks, distribute those to volunteers, and let them do the easy parts? That's how a lot of book preservation projects work. The whole thing gets scanned and OCRed, then different editors make multiple passes over the text to ensure it matches the scanned page. Many hands make light work, many eyes make bugs shallow, etc. Or are the software requirements prohibitive?

(No, I'm not offering to help, but that's just because I'm moving and changing jobs. I may be more helpful in the future.)

How do you split up a film into chunks and tell someone, "OK danielb, here's a copy of reel 6 from the X0 Defintive capture and the JSC capture. It's up to you to merge them into one and make sure it's worthy of the X0 Project."

This has been asked before, and the answer is, it's hard enough to coordinate what we're doing with this footage between 4 people. And the techniques we're using aren't something that just anyone can do. Hell, Laserman's really the only one who completely understands it.

And speaking of which, no we still have not heard anything from Laserman since last time we posted about him. He told us he'd be out of commission for a while so we can only assume he's still fighting to recover.
