DVD Lab Pro 2 - Out Of Memory error with compiling

Author
Time
I am using DVD Lab Pro 2 and now I want to compile disc 1 of my T23D project. However I get the error message "Out of memory". I have enough GB of free disc, so this can't be the problem. I also don't believe it's something with my computermemory and speed, they are all fine. Something must be wrong in DVD Lab Pro 2 itself.

screenshot of error

I have a lot of menu screens, but according to DVD Lab Pro's site, this should be no problem: 640 menu screens per VTS.

I did some search on google, but it's albout subtitles. I only have subtitle on the whole DVD, so I don't think this creates the problem.

Can anyone help me with the problem. Some site said about updating DVD Lab Pro 2 or something, but I don't have a clue at the moment.

edit:
fixed the link of the screenshot.

Maybe the hdd that dvdlab uses for the temp folder doesn't have enough space (although the program says otherwise).

That seems unlikely. I have enough free space left.

I'm clueless at the moment.

To me, "out of memory" most likely indicates a bug in the program. Most software, when running low on RAM, will use virtual memory on the hard drive so they don't run out of memory.

Make sure you are using the latest version. It might be a bug that has been fixed.

If it still occurs, contact their technical support.

If they are no help, try simplifying your DVD structure to identify where it's falling down - for example, if each menu screen has audio, try a project with silent menus.

Or try a different authoring package. (I've used the free version of MuxMan and found it to be pretty solid, but it's only really designed to do simple projects. I don't know how the pay "professional" version compares.)

Well, the issue is, I have more than 350 menu screens, so checking them out will be hard and very time-consuming. I have 2 VMG menu and 9 VTS "thingies". Every single VTS thingie has at least 1 clip and several menu screens.

What would be the best to do?
Starting checking all the videos, because I'm not sure if even should start with the menu screens...

I can't see any quick or easy way round it, I'm afraid.

Either start again from scratch, build up the structure doing regular test compiles until you find that it fails, or start removing stuff from your current structure until a test compile is successful.

Starting from scratch is not an option.
Yesterday I set the project to mega project and also flushed/freed the memory. Still no luck. I still get an error and even the log file doesn't tell me a thing, because it's not created at this stage of compiling.

Damn it! :-(

Can you perhaps reinstall DVD-Lab? As long as you have the files stay where they are (project files this is), and keep the ".dal" file. Couldn't you try opening it up again and compiling after a fresh DVD-Lab install?

I already tried to compile the project with 2 versions of DVD Lab Pro, 2.0 and 2.3. The 2.3 was the more up-to-date and a fresh install, but I still got the error essage :-(

Still thanks for the try. I'm thinking to buy more memory, just a test. I will post if this did work after some couple of days.

Added 1 gb of extra RAM memory, but this didn't solve the problem. Damn it! :-(

Did you try to do "Project > Free up memory..." before compiling? Maybe it helps.

My computer:
Windows XP Home (servicepack 2 installed)
Intel Pentium 4 CPU 3.40 GHz
1.5GB RAM Memory
250 gb hard disc

DVD Lab Pro 2.00 (PR8) (Compiler ver. 4.0.29.0) settings:
Mega-Project

2 VMG Menus, linking to 10 VTS Roots.
Fullscreen 4:3, NTSC 720 x 480.

This is the overview per VTS. I have made sure that every VTS section has at least 1 video (mandotory). However, the VTS section with movie "Black" don't link to this file, it's just there because I didn't have a movie to link to in that VTS.

NOte: with the start, it is linked that it first plays the teaser video from VTS01 and then goes to the VMG main menu.

One might wonder why I have so many menus. This is because a lot of menus have just a cpi with two buttons Previous (pic) and Next (pic). This may not be the source of the error, because the help file cleary says: Each VTS can have 99 Movies and 250 menus.

In this project, there's only 1 subtitle (automatically on) with only 1 line of dialogue which is only applied to 1 movieclip.

Some bettter news. I removed the next 4 VTS sections.
- VTS 04 - Facts
- VTS 05 - Timeline
- VTS 09 - 3D Villain
- VTS 10 - Word/Credits

Now I can compile it, I'm wating for the burning result. However, I am wondering what those 4 sections are blocking with my compiling proces.

And if I remove 4 other random VTS section, then it also burns.

Does someone know if there's a limit to the amount of VTS section? I thought 10 should be possible...

fixed typo

Looking at the website, there doesn't appear to be a limit on VTS. Perhaps checking in the forums about VTS limits might help?

Well, I already posted at their forum and am waiting/hoping for an answer. But right now, it looks a bit like they are just discussing the error, nothing more.

I still have hope... http://www.mmbforums.com/ipb/index.php?showtopic=18810

Still have the same problem and less hope for a good solution. Don't know what to do at the moment.

 (Edited)

I ran into this for the first time today...

I project I previously compiled I came back to, changed 1 color in the palette and gave the already existing menu buttons 'play' function.

Now I get OOM.  Any suggestions?

Edit: Based on a recommendation on another thread, I deleted the audio from my menu.

The disc then compiled fine.

I added BACK the audio track... and the disc compiles fine.

I don't know what it is, but anyone experiencing this, should just for giggles try removing any menu audio, at least temporarily.

You said you tried v2.0 & v2.3, have you tried the latest version 2.51?
