Movies you watch during the Halloween season

Author
Time
Well, seeing as how it's the month of October, I thought I'd ask around to see what y'all watch to get into the Halloween spirit. Stuff I watch during this month -

Evil Dead trilogy (Evil Dead, Evil Dead 2: Dead By Dawn, Army of Darkness)
John Carpenter's The Fog (original)
John Carpenter's The Thing
Hercules In The Haunted World
The Mystery Science Theater 3000 showing of Manos: Hands Of Fate
Night of the Living Dead (original)
Dawn of the Dead (original)
Return of the Living Dead
Poltregeist
The Entity
Various Godzilla films
Alien
Aliens
Conan the Barbarian (it's got demons and monsters, it's close enough)
Invasion of the Body Snatchers
28 Days Later
Hellboy
Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl (for the zombie pirates)
I'd like a qui-gon jinn please with an Obi-Wan to go.

Red heads ROCK. Blondes do not rock. Nuff said.

The first two Evil Dead's are mandatory. The rest of the viewing usually depends on whom I am with and what their tastes are--Friday the 13th marathons are not uncommon, last year I did a Childs Play marathon, and this year it looks like a Sleepaway Camp marathon might be in the works; I usually try to squeeze in Romero's Dead trilogy and the Exorcist if I can. Problem is I watch a lot of horror films regularly so Halloween viewing is not that special--I usually end up watching the cheesy stuff like Sleepaway Camp that I would never watch any other time.

Oh, and lets not forget The Simpsons Halloween Special.

My apologies.

I also forgot to list "A Chinese Ghost Story".

Wow, no one has mentioned the only one I watch. It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown. Seriously, it's the only real Halloween thing I watch, and I watch it every year. The Red Baron imitation is one of my favorite things ever. And of course, the iconic, "I got a rock." Hahahahahah, I've used that line so much in life. I love just breaking it out.

May the Force be with you.

What about Faces of Death or the one with the real footage Traces of Death or even Cannibal Holocaust.
Author

Cannibal Holocaust was fairly interesting (if gruesome), but Faces of Death was just retarded.

That one would've actually been my first choice.

My Halloween favorites include the PT back to back. Unlike most scary movies where watch characters fear for their lives, the PT + the idea of having to watch all three in one setting literally makes me have to fear for my own life and sanity. A hell of a lot scarier than watchin Jason Vorhees hack campers to death.

And to shift back to seriousness,

Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness
The Last Man on Earth
Omega Man
Soylent Green

oh, and two others that are occasional fun this time of year, but definately not worthy of rewatching each year (in my mind at least)

Am I the only one here who commits to the old Universal Pictures horror classics with Lugosi, Karloff, Chaney, Rains, etc.? I just kicked off the Holiday Season with Dracula (1931) last night. I have a special folio where all my Halloween-themed DVDs are kept, and they only see the light of day during October. Here's what's in my collection:

Corpse Bride, The
Creature From the Black Lagoon, The
Crow, The
Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde (1932, 1941)
Dracula (1931, 1977, 1992)
Frankenstein (1931, 1994)
Frankenstein, Bride of (& other sequels)
Halloween I & II
Halloween is Grinch Night
Ichabod & Mr. Toad
Invisible Man, The (1933)
It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown
King Kong (1933), Son of Kong
Mummy, The (1932)
Nightmare Before Christmas, The
Nosferatu (1922)
Old Dark House, The
Phantom of the Opera (1925, 1943)
Sleepy Hollow (1999)
The Simpsons: Treehouse of Horror (1-7, 12, increasing every time a new season is released)
Werewolf of London, The
Wolf Man, The
Young Frankenstein

I'm surprised that a few of those more modern flicks haven't gotten a mention before now.

I also have some "See Also" films that are very Halloween-friendly that aren't in my October-only collection:
Batman, Batman Forever (Returns is in my Christmas "See Also" cross-reference)
Beetlejuice
E.T.
Ed Wood
Edward Scissorhands
Ghostbusters
Hannibal Lecter movies
Harry Potter movies
King Kong (2005)
Practical Magic
Psycho
The Day The Earth Stood Still
The Goonies
The Mummy (1999)
The Shining
Willy Wonka
Wizard of Oz

Not surprisingly, there's a lot of Tim Burton stuff on the list.

E.T., because Halloween night plays significantly into the plot. It's always nice to have holiday-specific movie traditions, and since I've got a couple of kids this fits the bill nicely without delving into the realm of horror films or fright-fests.

I've never seen Nosferatu, so recently I downloaded it from archive.org and will watch it soon.

I'll probably spin The Lost Boys too.
Recently I saw it on the shelf at Wal-Mart with 2007 copyright date. Based on the features list,
it doesn't appear to be the dual-layer disc from 2004's 2-disc Special Edititon set.
Rather, it looks like a rehash of the single-layer 1998 release.
I suspect the only reason for the 2007 copyright is because the cover art is resized to fit an Amaray case
instead of the old Warner Bros. cardboard snap case.
What were they thinking?

However, in practice you must take into account the “fuckwit factor”. Just talk to Darth Mallwalker…

Which Nosferatu - the original silent version or the 1970s remake?

ADigitalMan - good call on "The Crow". Can't believe I forgot to list it.

If you can FIND the fucking thing, much less the DM disc, the only one with original mono sountrack and not a shitty remix; Disney's embargo fucked up so many great chances for HK cinema. Thank you Weinsteins. Not that I'm bitter .

There's two variants of the original silent version at archive.org
One is B&W and runs 64 minutes, the other is 93 minutes and tinted.

Saw Donnie Darko last night for the first time.
It's alright, but I probably won't make a point of watching again next October. YMMV

The 93 minute silent one ... that's what I have.

In addition to all the stuff I listed earlier, I've got some stuff in my rental queue that I'll be watching in good time:

The Invisible Man Returns (introducing the then-unknown Vincent Price)
Revenge of the Creature (I wish the 3-D version was available)
The Creature Walks Among Us
Son of Dracula
House of Dracula
Murders in the Rue Morgue
The Black Cat
The Raven
White Zombie
The Corpse Vanishes
Scared to Death
Abbot & Costello Meet Frankenstein (especially for Lugosi's triumphant return to the role he originated ... see a pattern?)
The Golem (silent - The Simpons spoofed this one last year)
The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (silent)
The Man Who Laughs (silent - featuring the character upon whom The Joker was modeled)

I'm checking out the new Halloween movie. It isn't bad. Isn't great but very interesting. I like all the focus on his youth. Don't really like the "grunge" look on a ten year old. Not sure if I like McDowells role but hey I'm not even half-way through the film.

Also add The Day The Earth Stood Still.

Thing is, they've taken Michael Myers and turned him from some faceless, mindless demon into a product of a tortured past. What made the original so damn scary is that he was a normal looking kid from a normal looking family who butchered his sister for no reason. He was pure evil, and that was enough to scare the shit out of us. We didn't even know what the adult looked like. Instead of some hairy freak, he was faceless. Fear of the unknown. The original movie scares the piss out of me. This new crap has no interest with me precisely because we've taken something Hitchcockian and turned it into more torture porn.
