I like the bottom cover.

<span class=“Italics”>MeBeJedi: Sadly, I believe the prequels are beyond repair.

I think however instead of "the criterion collection" it should say "the X0 Edition" or something like that.

It would be appropriate, as it seems the project won't be out unti 20X0...

That would be a shame, because this is coming out before the new forum software =p
I've placed my bet on it.

The forum still seems to be the same. So you still have a chance.

Not much of a chance - [tease] seeing as I've actually experienced the new software. [/tease]

Now the question is: will the X0 project be released before Jay gets the avatar upload working in the new forum...

I believe the X0 team has been working on all 3 movies at the same time. They will realease the entire trilogy in one go just before the forum will be updated with new software.
Is "[tease][/tease]" an actual function in the new software?

Keep in mind that Laserman is the genius and leader behind the project, so without him the team has trouble making any progress.

By the way, how is he? I know you probably would have posted soemthing if you'd heard from him, but I just wanted to check.

Laserman is the genius and leader behind the project,

While he is certainly a video genius, the second part doesn't necessarily apply. More importantly, he's the man with the serious hardware and software, and the know-how to use it. It would take the rest of us a lot more time and effort to create the same results he is capable of. Zion is trying to make up a computing rig that'll do the same thing, but there's still some more components and programs that are needed.

I don't think that's 100% true. I've had contact with Laserman off-forum (a while back; nothing new lately), and he's always been very keen to share his ideas and methods. So I very much doubt it's just inspiration -- 'genius'? -- that the X0 team is lacking.

Besides genius, another thing that Laserman has over just about anybody else around is access to wickedly cool toys! I know that the Black Magic system he had access to is very hard to come by. I think I can certainly forgive Zion and MBJ for not being able to make the same sort of progress without access to the same hardware and software.

Looking over the previous box-art mockups here, just thought I'd weigh in. I like the Criterion idea, but their covers are usually more abstract.

I think I meant by "leader" founder, which I'm pretty sure he is.

That's pretty cool actually How did you make the starfield (I assumed it's the entire starfield from the scroll to the planet)?

I made a few more myself, nothing creative, just copy/paste for the fun of it.

I like the Star Destroyer cover, myself.

And your source is?

IIRC, he and I kinda bounced the idea between ourselves, because at the time I was trying to make the best possible LD capture at the smallest price. He, having knowledge of hardware beyond me, talked lovingly of the X0 - how cool it would be, and what a bitch it would be to have access to. Sometime afterwards, Z started working on his project, and we decided to combine our efforts, rather than reinventing the wheel in parallel.

In any case, it was something that slowly coalesced from prior efforts and a desire to do more than had ever been done, rather than some overnight decision. I even remember Dr. Gonzo giving me crap for even thinking that I could improve over his version, and why was I even trying. Good thing I didn't listen to him.

It's not the precise pan-- I repeated the 'clean' starfield and flopped it to fill in the middle. Might take another crack at it later. Glad you like it!

OK, so I'm wrong alltogeter; it's just that he started the original thread, that's where I got the idea.
My apologies to the rest of the X0 team if I came off as if I was belittling (spell? Is this even a word?) you.

i think the X-0 team is doing phenominal work and are the only hope for the original trilogy.

the 2006 gout is horrendous quality and a slap in the face to oot fans as well as dvd player owners.

any updated screen caps or site updates would be much appreciated.

"I know its none of our business but I can't help but think about Laserman every now and then...any updates? Please let him know that there are people here thinking about him and praying for him to get well and be whole...... "

My thoughts exactly.

By the way, X in roman numeral means 10, so 20X0 = 20,100 AD... Yikes, that would be a long time.

I've been wondering, would it be alright to ask how each of you became so knowledgable about video technology and Star Wars in the first place? Were you familiar with all the different video releases like the Special Collection, Definitive Collection and Faces or was this gradually learned through trying to learn about improving upon previous laserdics transfers such as the Dr. Gonzo set? Did any of you take filmmaking classes in college? Or did one of your jobs deal with technical aspects of computers that would have taught you about script functions like avisynth? Or how Laserman acquired such advanced video hardware?
I'm just curious. If you feel any of those questions are too personal, you don't have (as if I could actually force you) to answer them.

Take back the trilogy. Execute Order '77

Strangelove - that cover is great. It is so freaking epic looking, yet, like you said, simple and abstract.

Arnie.D - my favorite of yours is the last one (with Luke looking into the sunset).

I gather the longer it is that we don't hear from Laserman the more serious his health issues were and still are.....for the X0 team, the OOT hopefuls, and his family....get well Laserman.

The covers are cool and quite classy, except for the Criterion worship. Criterion is more for Bergman and Bertolucci flicks (despite the paying a few bills with Armageddon). What makes Criterion special is that they take films that wouldn't otherwise typically see such a release and do lavish editions of them. Star Wars is about as mainstream as it gets and doesn't fit into Criterion's mold. Criterion would be more for THX1138 than Star Wars.

I think Criterion has quite some mainstream movies also (Movies like Hard Boiled, The Killer, The Royal Tenenbaums, Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas, Life Of Brian, The Silence Of The Lambs, Robocop, The Rock and Armageddon come to mind) only their transfer is usually better and they have more extras. That's exactly what we could use for Star Wars
