Rocky Horror How-to help!

Well if you wanna know more about the projects or why I need help in these particular areas then please visit this page: http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=11&threadid=7831&STARTPAGE=1

But basically what I need help on is a few diff. things, first of all i need to know how to digitally flip an entire movie horizontally, not just the video but the audio too. Secondly I need to know how to make a new video opening that includes clips from old movies, a cgi red curtain opening up (or how to rotoscope stuff out so I could use the one from Moulin Rouge or something), and how to make opening title text that looks really good like the one in the video on my second post in the forum thread linked-to above. I also need to know how to make an entire movie black and white with the exception of one persons lips throughout the entire movie. And lastly I need to know how to take a 1.66:1 aspect ratio dvd video and shift it up adding in a second video that I filmed underneath of it to create a 4:3 video, I also need to know some rotoscoping for this, thanx in advance everyone!

Are you using a particular video editor?

"first of all i need to know how to dgitally flip an entire movie horizontally, not just the video but the audio too."

The first part makes sense. I don't know about Premier, but Vegas makes this very simple. To my knowledge, audio can't be flipped "horizontally" (and I've been told music has no color either ), but it can be reversed. I had to do this for a church video where I needed Neo to land after flying. I found a scene where he takes off from the ground and reversed it. Luckily, the flying sounds sounded good in reverse, but if there's music or dialogue, it's going to get messed up.

"Secondly I need to know how to make a new video opening that includes clips from old movies,"

At this point (and forgive me if I'm wrong), I'm beginning to think you've not used a video editor very long, if at all. Most video editors are drag-and-drop in this regard. I'm not putting you down, but with the amount of stuff your project needs, you might need to make a reallllly good friend around here or pay someone to do this stuff for you - especially the cgi and rotoscoping.

"I also need to know how to make an entire movie black and white with the exception of one persons lips throughout the entire movie."

The B&W is easy, the lips can be a rather involved process. Like rotoscoping, it takes experimentation and experience to do something like this well.

"And lastly I need to know how to take a 1.66:1 aspect ratio dvd video and shift it up adding in a second video that I filmed underneath of it to create a 4:3 vdeo, I also need to know some rotoscoping fro this, thanx in advance everyone!"

Very easy. Again, it depends on which video you are working with. I take it there's no one who lives near you that knows this stuff?

[EDIT]

I made a quick XVID of the reversed Matrix footage. This is a compilation of different scenes put together to make a different video. There's actually two reversed scenes: Neo landing, and him taking off his glasses immediately afterwards. This was necessary because in the actual scene where he talks to Mr. Smith, he starts out not having glasses, and puts them on during the conversation. However in the prior landing scene, he lands with his glasses on. This little addition helps maintain continuity - at the expense of making Neo look like someone who can't just keep his damn glasses on.

Well the drag and drop I get, I've done a few simple edits before just removing scenes or adding in deleted scenes, but putting these clips inside the curtains like in the youtube video i linked to, that's something I don't know how to do. I also don't know how to make the words like in that opening title video. Also it would be great to know how to crop video as well. I've got vegas and womble and premier, the only one i'm really good with tho is womble. I would gladly buy more software if neccessary, regardless of price. As for the flipping thing, what I mean is the sounds that would normally come out of the right speaker i need them to come out of the left speaker and vice versa. Any quick tutorials on the basics of this stuff would help immensely I don't mind spending hours experimenting after that, it's just I'm totally lost at where to start or what programs I should use for each project. So a quick how-to or a link to somewhere that has them would be much appreciated.

Ahhhh, I get your audio question now. IIRC, swapping channels in Vegas really just involves right-clicking on the audio and selecting swapping channels. You can also select one or the other channel to play. If you do this, you can also add a panning envelope (INSERT, from the top menu), and use keyframes to move a sound from one speaker to the next. If you are creating a 5.1 soundtrack, you can pan around all the speakers. I once created a cool soundtrack by inserting the Jaws "Da-da" sequence, and slowly turned the entire soundstage around the listener as it played. Awesome effect!

And vegas and Premiere will do the things you want to do - the problem is knowing how to do it. If you want to learn more about Vegas, I highly recommend this book: Vegas Workshop

I have the book for Version 5, and it has some awesome explanations and examples. I've learned a lot of neat tricks with it. As for Premiere, I use it solely for video stabilization and nothing else, so you'd have to ask someone else about that. I know Zion uses it.

After Effects will also help with some of the specific stuff you want to do, like traveling mattes for the stage actors crossing over into the screen. There's video tutorials over at creativecow.net and videocopilot.net that are pretty good. Also there are forums dedicated to this kind of work. They might not be as "fanedit" friendly as we are here, perhaps, but I think they will help with specific advice.

Creativecow is kind of a nuisance to navigate, but here's some tutorials for After Effects.

Although, in my opinion, it would be a crime to make Rocky Horror completely in Black and White. I thought the original idea was to make it black and white until Frank shows up. His lips aren't that saturated to really make the gimmick work very well.

Here's one that has some rotoscoping in it.

"His lips aren't that saturated to really make the gimmick work very well."

That can be changed.

Ya the point was to change it, you should really taker a look at the other thread I started that I linked to in my first post in this thread, it's got the ideas thrown out there in much more detail, even some more details and the direction the edits* are going in!

*Max_Rebo is working on some edits too!

Rocky Horror Punk Rock Show, there was an album done of the soundtrack by a bunch of various punk bands, that would be awesome to replace the normal audio with these versions, I just need to know what program I should use for slowing down or speeding up the video without it looking too bad, cuz some of the songs on this album are done at a different pace!

How different? Cuz changing the audio rate might be a better option.
