I use YencPowerPostA&A for posting.

It can make your PAR2 files as well, but I still use QuickPAR out of habit.

Here's a guide for posting with powerpost (configuring, preparing and posting).
Fez: I am so excited about Star Whores.
Hyde: Fezzy, man, it's Star Wars.

WooHoo! I was hoping you'd be posting to Usenet!

Here's a pretty good PowerPost Tutorial with screenshots. If I recall, it's the one that got me started.

I've seen problems with par sets generated by PowerPost, so it's better to make the set with Quickpar.

Also, since you wouldn't be posting FTD's releases , it would be better to post the nzb to a.b.nzb.

The .nfo should come first, but A&A 11b wants to put it last, unless I click "Sort .PXX" under the File Order tab.

You should put your handle in, instead of using the default of PowerPost-blahblahblah. (I hate seeing 20 or 30 guys named A&APowerPost). Thats "nickname" in the headers tab.

Edit: LOL! Ya beat me Arnie.

One day I found... 10 years had got behind me. Next day was worse.

Download  shows from Cable DVR (Updated! Yes, it needs a rewrite, but it's worth slogging through, anyway).

Slyck Newsgroup Tutorial
Basically you will need Quickpar and Powerpost.
Quickpar to create the par (repair files) and powerpost to post to desired newsgroup.
That website I listed above goes into greater detail.

And a competely different question - how do I "get" the files which were uploaded to usenet ?

If on a mac the easiest program to use is unison, if on a PC the easiest is probably grabit. You then configure the program by putting in your newsprovider (e.g. news.yourisp.com, or if you pay giganews to be your provider it would be news.giganews.com and you would also put in your giganews username and password)

You can then go to www.binsearch.info and either search or browse specific groups (like alt.binaries.starwars) and tag any files you want and click on 'create nzb'.

This creates a .nzb file that grabit or unison can load (just double click on the .nzb file after it is created) and grabit or unison then goes off and downloads the files you chose.

Longer answer is that you download all the headers for the groups you are interested in and then download the files from within unison or grabit (or newsreader of your choice).

If your ISP doesn't have the newsgroups you want you will need to pay a newsgroup provider like giganews to get access.

Occasionally using PowerPost to create the PAR2s has crashed the program, now I create the PAR2s beforehand with QuickPAR.

Using Quickpar is the correct way. Too many problems trying to create par2 files using Powerpost. I only use Powerpost to post the files.
