also can you guys believe I am still messing with this project,I have converted the trailer and am adding the option to view on the dvd,and also want to do an alternate soundtrack of the upmixxed 2.0 ac3 to 5.1.

dark_jedi, you've done a mans job with this transfer. I haven't watched it all the way through as I've had some trouble writing it to dvd, but that is a problem my end.
Thanks for your efforts, it is soooo nice to see this film again, and I do mean see. The transfer is gorgeous.

Are you taking requests for version 2.0?

The missing scenes tracked in from laserdisc & letterboxed/manipulated?
- Full tongue scene
- Condom scene
- Credits

The DVD Rom stuff converted to be viewable in a standalone player?
Lay the soundtrack over the film, like an isolated score.
Use footage from the new transfer to re do some of the DVD-Rom stuff.

Have you tried 'Video Enhancer' to increase the proportions of small file resolutions - 320x240 to 640x480? Sometimes it can work a treat.

hey everyone, i've been lurking here for a month or so, and just had to make my first post a huge thank you to DJ for doing this. This, and the monster squad were my favorite movies from when i was a kid. And now i have them, because of you. Thanks, and they both looked and sounded great

just, ... wow ...

I just watched this for the first time, and I know what it's like to see a movie when you're 6 years old and have a sentimental attachment to it, but ...
... wow ...

This movie is a staggering, monumental, mind-scorching ode to wrongness and miscalculation. This movie aggressively mis-fires on all available cylinders, then passionately seeks out new cylinders on which to further mis-fire.
(What's with the mix of adult situations (in the first half hour or so) and sub-12-yr-old humor? Who ever said "sleazoid", even in the '80s?)

If Milton Berle, Morey Amsterdam, Salvador Dali, and that guy who did the costumes for 'The Carol Burnett Show' got together and wrote a script that they thought would go over well in the '80s, it might look like this. As realized by ILM, of course.

Here's a fun game: Whenever a character in this movie says "ducky", "ducko", "quack-fu" or variants thereof, drink an entire bottle of vodka. Make it a good brand. You're not getting those brain cells back, either way.

To sum up, FANTASTIC.

dark_jedi, a totally amazing job on the transfer, cheers.

thanks guys for all the feedback,I am super glad you are enjoying this release,because it sure was a PAIN IN THE ASS!
but now I am currently working an yet another version with an upmixed DD 5.1 sound as an alternate to the DD 2.0.
also want to add the trailer on the DVD as an option.
and who knows what else

Just want to say that the DVD looks fantastic. A lot better than my laserdisc transfer. Also wanted to say that Howard the Duck is now available on Dish Network Video on Demand. Irony, huh? It looks like its just the full-screen broadcast though. Thanks again, DJ! Looking forward to your Night of the Comet, & still trying to get Monster Squad v.2. You do great work.

You know, I was just watching this movie, and I noticed a pretty big plot hole: Howard didn't have to destroy the laser.

If you recall, Dr. Jenning as the Dark Lord tells Bev that the dark lords cannot live on Earth unless they grow inside of a human body. That's why he kidnaps Bev in the first place. Soooo...all they had to do was just say, "Hey, let's grab a cup of Coffee, I think Jenning could really use one..." , walk away and the dark lords would die as soon as they touched ground. The laser would still be intact and Howard could go home.

Plus, those dark lords weren't all that powerful. The first one blew up within a few seconds of being shot. There were how many in the vortex, like 3 or 4? C'mon, just use your neutron disintegrator and blast them to pieces.

Oh and did I mention that this film ROCKS!

What’s the internal temperature of a TaunTaun? Luke warm.

Full screen or not, this is potentially a better quality source for the scenes censored from the UK version (compared to VHS/laserdisc). Perhaps if someone has capped this then the scenes can be extracted and inserted back in to DJ's version?

Hi Guys,

Family commitments have kept me from the baord for a few momths now, but its nice to be back and especially to see one of my fav films as kid has been given such excellent treatment by Dark_Jedi.

I can't wait to see what this looks like once, I work out where to get it from.

On a side note, Dark_Jedi i might be able to help you out with the HD video encoding you mentioned.

I thought this was pretty well done.
I have done my share of HD2DVD but all have been done with HDTV2DVD or SUPER to VOB and then into TDA
I am much better at menu creation let me tell you HAHA

I tried making this DVD and I can say it is a pain in the rear seeing that the source is H.264 PAL
So a huge thanks to Dark Jedi for taking on the task of doing this.

If I may get in one opinion though.The menu.All is great but the chapter layout with the highlighting.....not so 'Special Edition' looking.
Please don't get me wrong and seeing as I wasn't able to encode this, it's just something to consider when making the menu section in your new version.

I sent as many messages as I could to all the bidders on the "Special Edition" Widescreen Howard the Duck DVD. Ebay limits the number of people you can randomly contact every day. The only person out of the high dollar bidders that I couldn't get to is magnolia-fan

Finally got to watch the whole disc. All I can say is thanks a billion DJ. Hopefully the missing scenes will show up in HD and can be edited back in.
