Which game is better?

Author

I know I should be avoiding the Off-Topic forum, but this is only a one-time thing, so:

Which game is better:
DOOM or Mortal Kombat?

I can't decide which one to make my absolute favorite, so I thought I'd have you guys help me decide...

I love Mortal Combat. I can do the FINISH HIM and GET OVER HERE and FATALITY voices perfectly.

Depends on which specific game you mean. Mortal Kombat 1 and 2 were great. 3 wasn't too great, and the series went downhill quickly from there. Doom was a good game, never actually played Doom 2, and Doom 3 was also pretty good.

DOOM, by far. While not the first FPS, it did bring the FPS genre into a completely different dimension and is more responsible for the current style of the run ' n gun side of the FPS genre than any other game.

The original MK was horrible, slow, and clunky. The second was hugely improved (in speed, balance, and just about everything else) but paled in comparison to other popular fighters at the time. The SF incarnations and SamSho 2 were much, much better games. The only things that attracted people to MK were the unique look ("holy shit they look like real people") and the over-the-top gore. As a fighter it is completely overrated.

doom II the original version will always be better than mk 1 or doom 1 in my book any day.

mk II is much better than it's predecessor as well.

as for doom it would probalbly not exist except for a little game called castle wolfenstein.

SFII was a much better game than mk 1 ever was imho.

It wouldn't, but that's like saying SFII wouldn't exist without the original Street Fighter (which was pretty horrible.) Wolfenstein 3d was kind of like ID's version of dipping their foot into the pool before they jumped in for a swim.

Mortal Kombat was a good game when it was new, but it didn't age well at all, and is tedious to play today. SFII and the many semi-sequels (SFII-Champion Edition, Super SFII, etc.) aged much better, as did MKII. MKIII wasn't as good, and MK4 was terrible.

Dude, why the hell do you need other people to tell you what your favorite game should be? Or your favorite anything for that matter. Think about them and arrive at your own conclusions, for crap's sake.

I used to be very active on this forum. I’m not really anymore. Sometimes, people still want to get in touch with me about something, and that is great! If that describes you, please email me at [my username]ATgmailDOTcom.

Hi everybody. You’re all awesome. Keep up the good work.

DOOM.

Mortal Combat was a neat game, but it was hardly amazing.

Until tomorrow, when you'll start a new thread to ask the same question yet another time

and at least five more "favorite" threads from your multiple personalities.

Please somebody tell me what my favorite thread should be ?!?!

However, in practice you must take into account the “fuckwit factor”. Just talk to Darth Mallwalker…

By today's standards, neither game is all that great, but I'd go with Doom. The original Mortal Kombat is the worst game of the series (spin-off games excluded, obviously.)

ZigFried, this obsession with your "favorites" is a symptom of your condition. The rest of us couldn't give a shit.

Isn't there an online autism forum somewhere you could join?

YES! BattleToads is a truly amazing game. It very well may be one of the greatest games ever made.

Brikhaus, this threat brought that Billy Madison scene into my mind immediately when I read the first post. I have to agree with Mr. Sandler on that one, Donkey Kong ranks right up there with BattleToads, not to mention that it is the very first game to introduce Mario.

Zig's obsession with his favorites is something very interesting to ponder. It seems he has that title for every category he can think up, I think psychologically he feels the need to keep the things he loves close to him, and the best way he can think to do that is in absolutes. By having an absolute of everything he can more easily hold onto them. It would be my guess that when he thinks of all the things he loves, he finds it overwhelming, thus his need to narrow them down into a more tangible quantity. In this way he can sleep in the same room as everything he loves and physically have them near. When he gets tired of one thing, he simply moves onto something else, this is normal in all of us, we play a new game and while we are playing it we could honestly say there is no game in the world we would rather play. Perhaps we will play that game every second we get the chance, while we are at school we will be thinking all day about going home so that we can play that game. Sooner or later we tire of it or beat it or get another new game and that becomes the center of our focus. Zig seems to be exhibiting this same type of behavior only Zig's way of handling it seems very unusual to the rest of us. Zig seems to be very insecure, I think he sees "his favorites" as his comfort blanket. Perhaps we should not be so harsh to him and just let him do his own thing. As long as he is not hurting anyone, (accept for annoyance, and in that case all that is to be done is to avoid reading Zig's post or not letting him get to them so much).
