I read some interesting stuff in this thread on a Thomas Dolby fan board. The anecdote about Stevie Wonder's participation on "Don't Turn Away" is priceless...

However, I really would not feel comfortable sending it to anyone else. I'm sorry, reave, it's not that I don't trust you, but it's my favorite record (next to my Mad Twists Rock & Roll record, but it is really scratched up). However, my phonograph is nowhere near the quality of the single itself. It's a Sears model clearly made sometimes in the late seventies or eighties and up until August of 05 it was only used to play Raffi albums. But I just want to make sure I get some good feedback before I lug the whole thing into my living room and mess with all the cables...

Unless someone else volunteered it, the project still needs a copy of the "Mega Mix" off that 12". I'd PM dark_jedi before going to the trouble though...

Some of you guys are pretty resourceful... Any of you bloodhounds found a copy of the script, or a subtitle file? (Oh, and NOT the Unpublished S.G. Script - that's been got already...

Ducttapeearth, I would be more hesitant to play that record on a Sears record player than I would be to send it off to a stranger. That being said, I completely understand your being nervous about sending it off to be copied.

If you change your mind, the offer stands. You'll end up with a perfect recording of your LP if you do.

And like I said before, this offer applies to anyone on OT.com doing fan edits or preservations. I would post this offer elsewhere, but I'm not sure which forum would be appropriate.

Hello,
I'm actually not sure about the quality in my link being better than the YouTube version. I just don't know how to download stuff from Youtube without it being too pixalated, so that's what I was basing my judgement about quality on. I tried downloading the video from YouTube using VDownloader and it looked horrible. Does anyone know any good downloading tools for that site?

I use the Videodownloader plugin for Firefox or the keepvid.com website...

you could pm the uploader to see if they have the original.

Thanks, it's nice to get some feedback. Maybe I will send it to you.

Anyway, I did a side by side comparison of the two videos. This is what I saw. The FLV was much clearer with better sound quality. However, the WMV was five seconds longer. It wasn't professional, but it's clear which one is better.

I'm not really doing anything 'funky', just:

DirectShowSource(howard.ts)
AssumeFPS(23.976)

Any suggestions?
Two suggestions:
Use AVC2AVI to put the H264 stream into an AVI container, and use AVISource(), as described on the previous page.
or
Assuming you are using the latest AVISynth version 2.5.7, use the new framecount parameter to force the correct length, e.g. DirectShowSource( "filename", framecount=<no. of frames> )

I had tried opening the AVI produced by AVC2AVI into MainConcept, but no dice - haven't tried via the AVISynth script.

What's the best way to get the framecount of the ts file - does something like TSEditor list it?

Cheers

Don't really know, I used the AVC2AVI method. Never used TS Packet Editor; I know TSConvertor works with H264 streams but I think it uses timecodes instead of frame numbers.

if you have the same file I do,I still think you are going to have to take a few seconds off the beginning, something wierd there NOT letting me encode, but the DirectShowSource() worked for me after taking 5 seconds OFF the start, nothing at all missing from the movie,so dont be alarmed, and I have the PAL video encoded at a 7 pass with 8000 avg(5.5 GB),now tonight I will start the NTSC version, then process all the friggin sound.
and THANKS ALOT guys for getting together some nice dvd-rom extras.

OK I 'Think" I have averything done, just waiting on artwork and some more Dvd-rom extras stuff to arrive, the menu's are very basic and simple,I prefer to have MOST of the disc space for the movie,so dont expect anything fancy here LOL,I have both the PAL & NTSC finished (I hope)I have made up some sample dvd'rs for friends and family to test(NTSC only)they dont have a multi region DVD player,so I will test the PAL version tonight,so soon as I here back from them, and get the artwork and dvd-rom stuff, then I will figure out how to get this out.
the SL version will have a Dvd-rom folder with only the case, disc and NFO
the DL version will have the same as the SL,but ALOT more Dvd-rom extras, including OST,some vids, trailer(low quality)to bad baby hum didnt have his trailer available, and alot more.

a big thanks to everyone that has helped and added cool goodies to the extras, you guys here are great, keep up the good work.

below are samples grabbed from PowerVDVD,the scenes menu looks blurry only because it is motion.

Good job, dark_jedi! I'm very excited about this, and it looks very good. I virtually have no VCR, and my cassette is no good anyway.

Great news! I am extremly glad you are doing this DJ! Here in Sweden most people don´t even know this movie exists, so I will definately make sure a few more will see it! That is if I get my hands on it somehow

the VHS cap thats been around on the internet is shit, I've seen screencaps. So this project will be the best version on dvd to date, unless of course old Georgie will release it on to dvd. But seeing how that is about as likely as releasing the holiday special, good thing for mr. dark jedi.

The funny thing is some of Lucas other failed films are on dvd, Radioland Murders, tucker, willow, more american graffiti. The only 2 I cannot find on official dvd are young indiana jones and howard the duck. However it is rumored that young indy will be released sometime in 2007, around the release of indy IV. No such thing for poor old howard the duck.

People actually got the oot on dvd even if it is not anamorphic, Lucas has never released the original cut OF THX 1138 on dvd, or the pre cg intro american graffiti. Thank goodness for the existance of laserdisc.

Lucas could have included the orginal THX 1138 in the director's cut boxset, I would not even care if it was non anamorphic letterbox. I saw the original version on bravo years ago in good quality too, and wish I had recorded it, sadly it was very rare to see dvr boxes in the home those days now they are almost standard.

Being a fan of Lea Thompson in back to the future I cannot wait to see the howard the duck release .

I would also like to personally thank dark jedi for Monster Squad and The Gate perservations. As well as Twilight Zone the movie.

Yes, I speak Swedish. I am Swedish so it would be strange if I didn't

I don't want to derail DJ's thread so If you want something IceCube84, lets go to the off topic-section. PM me if you do.

no problem dude,it is not my thread anyways,I didnt start it LOL.

also don't start giving me a bunch of credit for this project yet, after all my test DVD'rs went out I have spotted an error myself, and its on both the NTSC & PAL,dont know how or why it happened, but it did,and to be honost with everyone here,I am NOT going to try and figure it out and do 80 hours of encoding ALL OVER AGAIN,plus I have already deleted the source files off my PC so I wouldnt change my mind, its time to put this project to bed.
now with all that said, the movie is still very much watchable and very enjoyable, and to be honost I wouldnt have even caught this problem if it werent for me wanting to see who does the voice for Howard,I think Ed Gale plays Howard, but is he the voice of Howard also?
the problem with my project is after,Bev and Howard go off after there guitar jam session at the very end, while the credits are rolling, the screen turns black for the other credits to roll, but wait, there are NO credits after the video has stopped, but the music still rolls to the end,so in short, there are NO end credits for some fucking strange ass reason.

but I am happy with what I have, and to be honost for me anyways, when the movie is over,I dont watch the credits anyways, maybe alot of you do,but I dont.
so there you have it,if you like it grab it when available,if not it wont bother me if you bypass it,but I will say that this release has no logo's or station identification marks on the film like the screens posted at the beginning of this thread,it friggin looks FANTASTIC if I do say so myself.

sorry for the let down, but like I said earlier, this is my first and probably the last time I mess with .h264 encoded HD video.

Now to start working on a project that probably wont have any interest by you guys at all,but I am looking forward to it,it is Metallica Live August 15, 2006 From Seoul,South Korea HD2DVD.

The XviD I have (from the same broadcast, I think) has some end credits but NOT cast credits, so maybe the fault is in the source material...? Hey - there's always IMDB if I really wanna know...

I have to concur with dark_jedi based on the samples I downloaded to check the sync: the picture quality on this will knock your socks off!

Don't beat yourself up over the credit roll, DJ - props to you for doing the heavy lifting on this project!
