opening crawl

someone has done a program that does your entire opening crawl sequence for you. it's mac only at the moment but they are going to make it cross platform. looks EXTREMELY interesting.

Hmm, the personalised 20th Century Fox logo is pretty fancy... I wouldn't mind seeing a full screenshot from a crawl - as I discovered there's a lot more to it than laying yellow text on a 3D plane.

Very interesting. I am running it now. I will let you know what the results look like.

Update - It actually makes a series of BMP stills - now all I have to do is figure out how to make them into a video file...

You can load those into VirtualDubMod and generate an AVI from that. Usually you pick the first one in the sequence and the program knows how to put them together from there ... assuming they're named correctly.

Correct. I've done it several times. That's also how SFX houses do their effects as well.

Interesting site too. Though I did find an extremely easy way to do this... basically it's a 3D Studio Max file, and you just write your own crawl and texture it over the default one. Looks great!

Gentlemen, you can’t fight in here, this is the war room!

Too bad VirtualDub doesn't run on a Mac...

Anyway, we need someone to write a tutorial for a reliable way to create custom crawls, judging from the amount of posts we get requesting them. There's probably a way to do it in AVISynth (using animate, ffdshow's perspective correction and overlay) if only I had some time to devise such a script.

I tried the TFN tutorial once, but I couldn't get the control I liked. Plus it didn't have other necessary features like kerning to make the crawl better looking.

The problem with a LOT of tutorials i've seen is that they never really aim for something that looks exactly in the style of the films. What's the point learning a new method if you're going to wind up with something that looks like dogs balls?

I've actually been messing around with a small app i got a while back called LS text. Some of you may be familiar with it. I'm pretty impreseed since it is Very easy to use and with a little playing around can give you great results.

Badly you say? - I might [stress might] be able to help ya out...let me know.

I just feel a little uneasy installing windows on my mac. Silly I know. Thanks for the tip. Maybe I will invest in that option.

Could you give a brief explanation on how to do that, or if theres a tutorial on the web somewhere I could use I would appreciate it.

When I go to open the .bmp files created from this program in VirtualDubMod, I get an error message saying "Image file is too short," can someone help me out?

JD, it's dead simple. With Quicktime Player...

File -> Open Image Sequence... Navigate to the folder of stills, select the first one... From the popup list, choose your framerate... Export your movie with whatever codec you want. No need to tarnish that Mac with the dark side just yet...

You can go about your business. Move along, move along.

Yes the colors are slightly off and the star field is noticeably different, it is very apparent when you transition from the programs star field to the actual movie star field

It still is a very cool program and is satisfactory for a fan edit

Yeah they are like mowing the lawn, one knows exactly what has to be done, you can see the results quickly and can actually finish it off and be happy when it is done.
