Happy to report that the Xvid played on my standalone player with no problems - I was wondering because the file had a non-mod16 height, and was also encoded with a packed bitstream. (Gotta love Xvids, took 10 minutes to download, 5 minutes to burn on DVD+RW and I was ready to go! Going to get a 2GB SD card for next time, then I don't need to mess about burning discs.)
DRF-analyzer reports an average DRF of just over 4, which is ever-so-slightly on the high side. For a 1-CD rip, using a lower resolution such as 608 x 256 might have reduced the appearance of compression artefacts (at the expense of a reduction in fine detail, of course). However, it looks nicer when viewed on a CRT TV, which is more forgiving than an LCD display.
I love the little fixes - the receding view of the Star Destroyer through the escape pod porthole, the Death Star graphic during the rebel briefing. These are the things GL should have concentrated on, instead of adding puerile CGI slapstick. The Han-shooting-Greedo shot was a bit clumsy in version 1, this time it's much improved and flows really well.
Congratulations DE for making a watchable Special Edition!
I'm sorry, but I am the first to admit that I am a complete idiot. And I'm sure that's quickly becoming obvious to eneryone else here.
Okay, so I've downloaded GrabIt 1.6.2 Beta and have added www.giganews.com as a group. Did a search and found 90 RAR files for the NTSC DVD. Selected all and hit the Grab button. In my batch, all it says is that it's unable to connect.
I have Grabit, found the files on alt.binaries.starwars, have a trial acount with Giganews. Now what?
I get the following error message in the Batch tab: "Unable to connect to news:119"
I see the NZB file at the top of the list. Am I supposed to grab it somehow? Is my workplace's firewall creating problems?
I have an account with Giganews (a 3-day trial) and included the username and password. I'll give it a try at home. I'm guessing the port is blocked here at work.

Make sure you have set the account up in grabit, have a look here: except of course put in new.giganews.com as the server and your username and password.
You can go to here: and tick the box next to "Star Wars Episode IV - A New Hope (Darth Editous v3 Xvid) [1 of 63] "Star Wars Episode IV - A New Hope (Darth Editous v3 Xvid).nfo" yEnc (1/1)" and then click on the "create NZB" button.
This will download an nzb file to your PC, double click on it and grabit will open, tell it to grab the file and it should begin.
There is another tutorial here: http://www.binaries4all.com/grabit/
I got all of the parts and burned it last night. I can't wait to watch this over the weekend!
I was looking through my binder o'stuff yesterday, and had to marvel at how much amazing work has been done with both the films and supplemental-type stuff. I am the envy of my non-'Net savvy geek friends everywhere, thanks to you folks!
Cheers, and thanks again (and to MoveAlong for going to the trouble, even if it wound up in vain...).

Not a problem. This is one fine piece of work. While I must admit I do enjoy Star Wars SE, there were some creative decisions I was not too crazy about... Darth Editous has done a tremendous job of making a fantastic version of the ANH SE. It is thoroughly enjoyable, keeps all of the good SE content while removing the dicey stuff (i.e. Jawa slapstick in Mos Eisley)... pretty much seemlessly edited... just great stuff. Thanks for the hard work DE.
Just checking again to see if there's any chance someone would be kind enough to burn me a copy of this? If so, please send me a PM or e-mail me at the address in my profile. I will gladly send blank discs and postage in return.

Thanks!
Go on then........
As your profile is not available, e-mail me your address and format preference.
Likewise, the first two e-mails I get from non-torrent, non-newsgroup using Brits, get the format of their choice.
Hi I was wondering if someone could post the hi-res disc image for the PAL disc,I know it is in the torrent at Demonoid, but I think there is a mistake, the NTSC label has DE-ANHv3N,and the PAL label has DE-ANHv3X,now I could be wrong but isnt that for the Xvid version,I am looking for DE-ANHv3P,i think the label in the PAL torrent was mis marked LOL,maybe you guys with the Xvid version have the PAL label. thanks DJ
Oops - oh well, something had to go wrong. I don't have access to the drive with the PSD on it at the moment, but I'll post it somewhere (know anywhere that will host a 1.5Mb JPEG?) soon.

Just finished getting the PAL torrent. I will hold off on making rar's and par's for usenet until the proper label is posted...

Well said. I love the new stuff, like the Falcon manoeuvring, the realistic countdown clock (man, the original was just random nonsense, wasn't it? ), and smoothing out more jump cuts. Lots of impressive fixes!
Quick question. What is meant by the lightsaber effects on the Millennium Falcon being re-colored? Is Luke's lightsaber now closer in color to how Obi Wan's lightsaber color is while fighting Vader? (This is what I hope!)
